Hmmm, ich sagte ja: hier geht es zur Sache! Die UnstampaBelles haben den Monat des Recycling ausgerufen – ich habe für diese Karte das gestickte Motiv recycled, das ich einmal auf einer Weihnachtskarte einer Freundin aus Yorkshire bekommen habe. Von dort kommt weiterhin Nachschub – schon im vergangenen Jahr hatte ich ein Motiv wiederverwertet.
Mmmhh… it’s just like I said yesterday: cards will keep coming. This month is all about recycling for the UnstampaBelles – the Santa image is the recycled part. I received it some years ago from a friend in Yorkshire. And she keeps them coming – I had already recycled one last year.
Der Oktober hat es in sich – und ein Feiertag zu Beginn ist hilfreich für die Produktion! Hier steht in den kommenden Tagen noch einiges an… Diese Karte habe ich für die Sparkles Christmas Challenge gemacht, wo es im Oktober um „Tradition“ geht.
October starts out a busy month – a holiday at the start helps my production! I have a lot more to publish in the upcoming days… This card was made for the Sparkles Christmas Challenge, which in October asks to be traditional.
… ist das Motto bei den Jingles Belles in dieser Woche. Zwar hat mein Motiv (von Bugaboo Digi Stamps) nicht wirklich viel „dashing“ zu bieten, ist ja ein eher ruhiges Pärchen – aber Schnee in rauhen Mengen und darum geht es hauptsächlich.
… is this week’s challenge over at the Jingle Belles. There’s not a whole lot of dashing going on with these cute little penguins (an image from Bugaboo Digi Stamps) but the focus is on snow – and it’s got lots of that!
Als ich zuletzt nachgesehen habe, gab es bei dieser Challenge schon 81 Teilnehmer… Da sieht man, dass es nur noch 83 Tage bis Weihnachten sind. Ich habe mich entschieden, die CD Olaf, der Elch gelesen von Dirk Bach einzulegen und werde sehen, welche Inspiration das nach sich zieht (mehr ELCHE??).
When I last checked there were already 81 participants in this challenge – you can really tell that there are only 83 days left until Christmas now. I’ve decided to play my CD Olaf, the Moose read by the late Dirk Bach and will see what inspiration will come from that (well… maybe MOOSES??).

Die Challenge-Teilnahme nimmt langsam absurde Züge an. Jetzt ist es schon soweit, dass ich eine Karte bastele und mich dann im Netz auf die Suche nach einem Wettbewerb mache, der passt. Und das dauert genau drei Minuten. Mit dieser herbstlichen Karte nehme ich teil an der Oktober Challenge von The Cupcake Craftroom, wo es heißt: Anything goes – in autumn!
This „challenge mania“ is starting to get a little absurd. I have now created a card and then went out online to find a challenge that fits it. And it took me about three minutes to find one! I enter this autumnal card into the October „Anything goes – in autumn!“ challenge at The Cupcake Craftroom.

Köln ist bekanntermaßen die Karnevalshochburg Deutschlands… und jetzt habe ich gesehen, dass sogar die Klingelanlagen entsprechend gestaltet werden. Aber deswegen bin ich nicht zur Überzeugung gekommen, dass Köln verrückt ist. Es ist der Verkehr. Normalerweise ist es so, dass man als Ortsunkundiger immer auf eine der verdammichten Brücken gerät, obwohl das Ziel diesseits des Rheins liegt. Wenn man jedoch dringend auf eine Brücke muss, ist man chancenlos. Ich hatte eine Entfernung von vielleicht 2 km zu überBRÜCKEN, vom Historischen Rathaus bis zu einer Kirche in Deutz. Es hat mich mehr als eine Stunde und ca. 30km gekostet. Und meine Lebenserwartung um mindestens 3 Jahre verkürzt. Entweder abgesperrt wegen Baustelle oder wegen einer Demo. Der Navi gab auch auf – ich rechnete schon damit, dass die elektronische Dame mir nur noch den Finger im Display zeigen würde… Nie wieder… so verspätet kann ja gar keine Bahn sein. Und trotzdem kommt man noch lachend an, weil man halbrecherisch von einer Braut ganz in weiß und mit Schleier in einem ca. 30 Jahre alten Fiat Panda überholt wird – die gehörte aber nicht zu unserer Gesellschaft!
I have mentioned earlier that Cologne is Germany’s carnival stronghold… and now I noticed that even the bell boards are in sync with this. But this is not why I have come to the conclusion that Cologne is crazy. It’s the traffic. As a driver unfamiliar with Cologne you usually end up on one of the bridges even though you need to stay on the side of the Rhine you were originally on. But if in fact you need to cross that darn river, you don’t stand a chance of ever getting on one of the bridges. I had a distance of maybe 2km to cover from the Historic Town Hall to a church in the Deutz neighborhood. I needed more than an hour and used about 30km. In the process, my life expectancy was shortened by about 3 years. The access roads were either closed due to all kinds of construction works or demonstrations that were going on. The GPS gave up, too – I was just waiting for the nice lady to give me the finger on the display… Never again… no tram could ever be that late. And still I got there with a smile on my face after a bride all in white, veil included, was racing down the street at breakneck speed in a 30-year old Fiat Panda – and no, she wasn’t part of our event!
So langsam komme ich SO RICHTIG in Fahrt, was die Herstellung von Weihnachtskarten angeht. Aber ich habe immer noch keine „Edition 2012“ zur Massenproduktion entwickelt – das gibt mir etwas zu denken. Wie auch immer: diese Woche heißt es bei Winter WonderlandBaby’s First Christmas.
Slowly I really get into Christmas cards (I know – this sounds ridiculous seeing that I don’t seem to be doing much else yearround). But still I haven’t found an inspiration for my „Edition 2012“ that I can mass produce… Oh well. This week’s challenge at Winter Wonderland is about Baby’s First Christmas.

I have decided that this sweet digi stamp called „Is that for me?“ by Diane at Di’s Digi Downloads shows a baby seal and his godfather, the penguin. But now I have to concentrate on my Sunday night thriller. Have a good start into the new week!
Das Santa-Thema war mir mit diesem Motiv letztlich dann doch zu subtil (HoHoHo), um bei der ABC Christmas Challenge mit obigem Thema punkten zu können. Schon bei S! Das Jahr rast voran… jedenfalls habe ich dann noch einige Santas hinzugefügt – zur Sicherheit!
I felt that the Santa theme was a bit too subtle in this image (HoHoHo) to really qualify for the ABC Christmas Challenge. S already! The year is zooming by… Anyhow, I’ve added a few Santas for good measure!

Dieses Foto habe ich vor knapp drei Wochen gemacht und dachte noch, ich nenne es Katze mit Gartenschlauch vor Sonnenuntergang. Wie es scheint, ist für unsere Sophie-san nun tatsächlich die Sonne untergegangen. Die wahrscheinlich 22-jährige Dame war schon einige Zeit nicht mehr bei bester Gesundheit, ein Schatten ihrerselbst, und die letzte selbst gefangene Maus liegt Monate zurück. Sie hat sich am Sonntag auf ihre morgendliche Runde begeben und ist nicht zurückgekommen.
I took this picture not even three weeks ago and thought I’d call it Cat with garden hose at sunset. It seems that the sun has gone down for good for our Sophie-san. According to recent estimates we think she was 22 years old and hadn’t been in good health for quite a while, a shadow of her former self – the last mouse she caught died months back. Apparently, she left for her usual rounds and never returned.
Sie liebte Weihnachten ungefähr so wie ich; Karten hat sie jedoch nie gebastelt. Ihre Liebe galt im letzten Jahr vor allem dem Spritzgebäck.
She loved Christmas about as unconditionally as I do; though she never made any cards. Her heart went out to piped cookies primarily.
Und was den Namen angeht… Eigentlich hieß sie Sophie. Aber da sie so gar nicht wie die distinguierte alte Dame in Dinner for One war, haben wir sie ironisch Miss Sophie genannt. Und dann kamen 1998 die Olympischen Spiele in Nagano. Da haben wir gelernt, dass das Suffix -san im Japanischen die Anrede ist, entsprechend etwa Herr/Frau im Deutschen – und eigentlich am Nachnamen. Und so wurde sie Sophie-san.
And as concerns the name… She was originally called plain Sophie. But because she didn’t resemble the very distinguished elderly lady Miss Sophie of Dinner for One fame AT ALL, we started calling her Miss Sophie. We are a sarcastic bunch. Well, and then we experienced the 1998 Olympics in Nagano. And learned that in Japanese the suffix -san is used to address people (like Mr/Mrs). And that is how she became Sophie-san.
Sophie, ich wünsche dir Horden von Mäusen, leckere Blaumeisen und unendlich viele Geckos.
Sophie, I hope there are hordes of mice, yummy blue tits and a never ending supply of geckos wherever you are.

For all non-German readers: Dinner for One is an English language comedy produced in Germany in about 1963 and is a classic on New Year’s Eve – there are about 25 chances to see it on TV every December 31. I understand that people outside of Germany don’t even find it all that funny – but trust me, we are all in stitches every time we watch it. Check it out – and just endure the German explanations at the start about Miss Sophie who is celebrating her 90th birthday with her friends – all long gone, the last one 25 years prior to her 90th. Butler James fills in for them. Do move on to part two also – I can’t watch it here due to copyright restrictions in Germany.
Überraschung! KEINE Weihnachtskarte! Aus aktuellem Anlass habe ich eine Hochzeitskarte gebastelt – unter den Empfängern gibt es auch einen Briefmarken-Fan, so dass ich dieses Element unterbringen MUSSTE. Eine andere aus der Reihe dieser ausgefallenen japanischen Briefmarken hatte ich ja bereits früher verarbeitet und lange auf eine Inspiration für diese gewartet. Die Challenge der UnstampaBelles hat da geholfen: „embossing“ ist unterzubringen, geprägtes Papier.
Surprise! NO Christmas card! I’ve made a wedding card and one of the addressees is a stamp collector so I just HAD to inlucde this one. I had already used another one from this unsual Japanese series earlier this year and have long waited for an inspiration for this one. The current challenge over at the UnstampaBelles did it: embossing is to be used.
Aber nun muss ich mich doch wieder den Weihnachtskarten widmen – es sind schließlich nur noch 92 Tage!
But now I really have to get back to my Christmas cards – there are only 92 days to go after all!
