Es läuft nun die dritte Woche des Fundraisers für das Elisabeth Hospiz in Lohmar und mir hat es die Sprache verschlagen. Der letztjährige Rekord von 5.000 Euro wurde bereits übertroffen. Ich bin euch allen extrem dankbar, ihr seid die besten! Und als wäre das nicht schon Grund genug zu feiern, wird das hier gerade richtig gut. Unfassbar gut. Da fordert uns nämlich eine*r heraus: wenn wir es schaffen, auch noch die 5.500 EUR-Marke zu nehmen, wird die Person auf 6.000 EURO AUFRUNDEN. Hammer, oder? Vergesst die Ice-Bucket-Challenge, hier geht’s richtig zur Sache. Kauft mich blank!

We are half way through the third week of the fundraiser for Elisabeth Hospice in Lohmar and I am at a loss for words. Last year’s record result of 5,000 EUR has been achieved already. I am so very grateful to you all, you are the best! And as if that wasn’t reason enough to celebrate, this is taking an even better turn. An incredibly good turn. Because someone has approached me with a challenge for our hospice support community: if we manage to raise 5,500 EUR, that special someone will round up to 6,000 EUR. Fantastic, right? Forget about the ice bucket challenge, it’s here and now we can make a difference. Go on, clear the shelves!

Die erste Woche Fundraising für das Elisabeth Hospiz in Lohmar ist vorbei und wir haben schon sagenhafte 4.000 Euro erreicht – und jetzt habt ihr mich da, wo ihr mich wahrscheinlich die ganze Zeit haben wolltet: jetzt werde ich nicht ruhen, bis der Rekord vom letzten Jahr (5.000 Euro) geknackt ist. Und hier wurde nachgelegt, also guckt euch weiter um! Für die ersten zehn neuen Bestellungen gibt es noch eine Überraschung aus dem Iran dazu – Dank an Nawid!

Evelyn hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, die Nacht voller Sterne zu erhellen. Eine riesige Auswahl an handgefalteten Sternen in 3D, Durchmesser ca. 21 cm, dabei ca. 7 cm tief (3,80 € pro Stk., 3 für 10 €, 5 für 17 €). Alle, die mit einem * versehen sind, sind mehrfach vorhanden. Allgemein gilt: die Farben sind intensiver, als sie auf den Fotos erscheinen.

Evelyn was on a mission: craft enough stars to light up the night sky. There’s a huge variety of hand folded 3D stars to choose from, diameter ca. 21 cm, „thickness“ ca. 7cm (3.80 €, 3 for 10 €, 5 for 17 €). The ones marked with an asterisk are availabale more than once. General rule: the colors are more intense in real life than they appear on the pictures.

Auf die Barweiler Frauen ist Verlass: nachdem ihr mich in nur Stunden mit dem Marmeladenangebot leergekauft habt, habe ich einen Aufruf gestartet und kann wieder anbieten. Es ist eine wilde Mischung von teils nur einmal vorhandenen Geschmacksrichtungen und man bestellt am besten, indem man sagt „Egal was, außer…“ – und ist vorbereitet auf die „Vermutet Brombeer, ggf. schwarze Johannisbeer-Variante“ (3,50 pro Glas). Gerade noch frisch (noch warm) eingetroffen: Bratapfelmarmelade!

You can count on the the women of Barweiler: after you had relieved me of all my jams and jellies within hours, I posted an urgent appeal and was not disappointed. It’s a wild mixture and some varieties come in one jar only so it’s best to order by „Whatever you have, except… “ – and be prepared for the „Suspected black berry, could be black currant, though“ variant (3.50 EUR per jar). Freshly received moments ago (still warm!): roast apple jam!

Ein geringer Restbestand der frisch hergestellten veganen Deocreme auf Kokosölbasis, in den Duftrichtungen Zitrone oder Bergamotte (7 €, 30 ml) ist noch zu haben.

Ob zuhause oder unterwegs: ein gutes Tröpfchen kann von innen wärmen und auch in diesem Jahr sind zwei Klassiker wieder mit von der Partie: der Bratapfellikör (7 €, nur noch geringe Bestände!!!) und gleich zwei Lakritzschnäpse (je 8 €) – nur einer abgebildet. Hier entwickelt sich der Battle der Thomase, der eine in der Edition Ratingen auf Rum-Basis, der andere in der Edition Bonn auf Wodka-Basis. Man muss quasi beide kaufen, um mitreden zu können.

No matter whether you are at home or travelling, a little sip of the two classics will warm you up from the inside: roast apple liqueur (7 €, only very few left!!!!) or a selection of two licorice schnapps (8 € each), the Ratingen and Bonn Editions. You basically have to purchase them both so you can make up your mind.

Weiterhin noch auf den Migrationsrouten befinden sich die im vergangenen Jahr so beliebten Vögel aus Zimbabwe – sowohl aus Metall (Rotkehlchen bereits alle vergeben), wie auch aus Stein. Sie wie gehabt für 15 € das Stück zu haben sein. Die Metallvögel werden es NICHT vor Weihnachten schaffen, machen sich aber auch gut als Geschenk das ganze Jahr. Wärme ist das Thema der Saison und hier könnt ihr dafür sorgen: warme Füße, warme Körper; für euch selbst oder andere und dann noch Wärme für den guten Zweck, da kommt die Wärme automatisch auch ins Herz – der Basar zugunsten des Elisabeth Hospiz in Lohmar ist wieder da! Hier heißt’s sinnvoll schenken auf vielen Ebenen. Bringt die Luft zum Brennen!

Warmth is what everybody is talking about this season and you can make it happen: warm feet, warm bodies for yourselves or others and on top of that warmth for a good cause, so there’s a direct line for warmth to reach your heart as well – the fundraiser for Elisabeth Hospice in Lohmar is back! It’s all about presents that make sense, on a number of levels. Make the air burn!

Dieser Basar wäre nicht wiederzuerkennen, hätte er keine Stricksocken im Angebot. An dieser Stelle nochmal ein Dank an Johanna, eine langjährige treue Unterstützerin dieser Aktion, die uns leider im Januar dieses Jahres verlassen hat. Ich bin mir sicher, sie wäre begeistert von dem wieder einmal ausgesprochen vielfältigen Angebot, legen wir los!

Die langjährigen Unterstützer unter euch wissen, dass man die Wärme der Stricksocken noch potenzieren kann: durch Hausschuhe aus afghanischer Produktion, die mich auf immer verschlungeneren Wegen auch in diesem Jahr wieder erreicht haben – allein die Farben lassen es einem doch schon warm werden, oder?

The longtime supporters amongst you know that the warmth of knitted socks can be multiplied: by slippers from Afghanistan, that again have reached me via ever more winding paths – the colors alone make you feel the warmth, don’t they?

Und es haben mich einige Fotos aus der Herstellung erreicht, um euch mal einen kleinen Einblick geben zu können. Es werden (hoffentlich weiterhin) Workshops angeboten, in denen die Frauen das Stricken der Hausschuhe erlernen und sich damit eine Einkommensquelle eröffnen. Hier könnt ihr unterstützen, mit 18€ pro Paar. Bitte beachten: die Größenangaben sind am oberen Ende bei absolut maximal möglicher Dehnung.

I’ve also received pictures from the production of the slippers, so I can give you a better idea of the project. There are training workshops (hopefully still) by way of which women learn how to knit the slippers and create a source of income for themselves and the families. You can support them by purchasing one (or more!) at 18 € a pair. Please note that the largest respective size quoted is at maximum possible stretch of the material.

So, damit hätten wir die Füße schonmal warm – wie wäre es denn noch mit einem Tuch, Schal oder Loop, das/den man sich um die Schulter legen oder um den Hals drapieren kann? Toll und warm sind sie alle, so richtig weich sind TUCH5 (Alpaka) und TUCH9 (Merino), dafür ist TUCH4 zum Beispiel richtig dick gestrickt, wohingegen LOOP7 ein in jede Tasche passender Hauch von nichts ist und trotzdem warm! Der riesige SCHAL9 ist ein must-have für den Herrn oder wem auch immer er gefällt.

Okay, the feet have now been taken care of – how about a shawl to wrap around your shoulders or wear scarf-like? They are all fantastic but if you’re going for really soft, TUCH5 (alpaca) and TUCH9 (merino) are right for you, but then TUCH4 has a really compressed stitch, whereas LOOP7 fits into the smallest bag, yet is really warm as well. The huge SCHAL9 is a must-have for a gentleman or whoever else might fall in love wth it.

Bei nur unzureichend geheizten Büroräumen sollte man dafür Sorge tragen, dass die Finger nicht mit ungesunder bläulicher Färbung über die Tastatur huschen. Auch dafür kann Abhilfe geschaffen werden:

Auch die Marmeladen- und Geleeköchinnen waren wieder eifrig zugange. Wir HATTEN im Angebot, zu 3,50 € das Glas:

AUSVERKAUFT Sollte es euch eher nach etwas herzhaftem sein, kann ich euch dieses vegane Piccalilly ans Herz legen, für leichte Wärme im Magen. Die volle Portion gut gewürztes Gemüse für’s Brot (auch zum Grillen oder zu Kartoffeln – da ist vieles vorstellbar). Ähnlich wie Chutney, aber gröber und das Gemüse ist noch knackig. Könnte auch den abendlichen Chips-Jieper bezwingen. Wirklich was besonderes. Beinhaltet u.a.: Auberginen, Zucchini, Paprika, Zwiebeln, Zimt und massig Kurkuma. 5,90 € pro Glas.

SOLD OUT If you’d rather go spicy (not hot, though), I recommend this vegan piccalilly, for moderate tummy warmth. Your dose of veggies to have with bread, barbecue or potatoes – just about anything is possible. It’s a bit like chutney but the pieces are bigger and still „al dente“. Might be a good defence against late night chips cravings. It’s really special. Contains, among others: eggplant, zucchini, peppers, onions, cinnamon and a lot of tumeric. 5.90 € per jar.

PASTA UND ÖLE AUSVERKAUFT Tendenziell etwas heißer geht es zu mit den Chili- oder Knoblauchölen Eifler Herstellung (3 € pro Flasche / 125ml), die sich sehr gut kombinieren lassen mit der hausgemachten dreifarbigen Pasta aus Schwarzrheindorf (7,50 € pro Beutel / 250g – Tagliatelle oder Orecchiette) – inkl. einer passenden Gewürzmischung. Jetzt mal ehrlich: da bleiben doch keine Wünsche offen, oder?

PASTA AND OILS SOLD OUT I guess it gets a tad hotter with the chili and garlic oils of Eifel descent (3 € per bottle, 125ml), which can be ideally combined with pasta is sold out the homemade pasta from Schwarzrheindorf (7,50 € per bag / 250g – tagliatelle or orecchiette) – it even comes with a ready-made spice mix. I dare say that leaves nothing to be desired!

PRALINEN SIND (vorläufig?) AUSVERKAUFT Hier bleibt kein Auge trocken: auch für Süßkram ist gesorgt! Es gibt wieder Pralinen aus gewohnt verlässlicher Herstellung im 120g-Beutel für 6 €. Den Elchtest haben sie bestanden – nur für Nussallergiker sind sie nicht geeignet.

CHOCOLATES ARE SOLD OUT (for now?) No need to worry: there’s something to satisfy your sweet tooth as well – moose-tested! Very cute 120g bags of handmade chocolates of the usual quality for 6 €. Please pass, though, if you are allergic to nuts.

Es ist der dritte Advent und damit geht der Fundraiser für das Elisabeth-Hospiz in Lohmar in die letzte Woche… und es sieht so verdammt gut aus: es sind zum jetzigen Stand knapp 3.700 Euro und somit wäre es doch ein Klacks, das Ergebnis vom letzten Jahr (4.000 Euro) einzustellen oder sogar zu toppen. Genau betrachtet gibt es doch keinen besseren Tag für den Einkauf hier zugunsten des Elisabeth Hospiz in Lohmar! Und wenn man bedenkt, dass durch eure wahnwitzige Unterstützung so früh im Dezember bereits die Marke von 3.000 Euro geknackt wurde, bleibt mir ja gar nichts anderes übrig, als das nächste Ziel anzusteuern. Für den diesjährigen Basar habe ich mir viel vorgenommen – es ist das zehnte Jahr und damit ein „runder Grund“, die wunderbare Arbeit des Elisabeth-Hospiz in Lohmar erneut mit eurer Hilfe zu unterstützen. Die Hoffnung ist, alle Rekorde zu brechen, was bei dem Wahnsinnsergebnis vom letzten Jahr eine Ansage ist. Aber bei dem Ausmaß an Unterstützung, das hier aufgelaufen ist, wird es auf gar keinen Fall am mangelnden Angebot scheitern. Es ist das best ever Angebot. Ever, ever.
