Am vergangenen Freitag hat es mich mal wieder zum Reibekuchen-Buffet im Hotel Schäfer in Schuld an der Ahr verschlagen. Das gibt es jeden Freitag ab 17:30 Uhr, aber irgendwie reizt es mich nur in der Winterzeit.

Last Friday I finally made it to the potato patty buffet at Hotel Schäfer in Schuld by the Ahr again. It’s on every Friday from 5:30pm but somehow for me it needs to be winter to consider it.

Die ganze Fahrt lang hatte ich mir schon überlegt, was ich würde essen wollen – die ganzen Salate natürlich, etwas Lachs, etwas Hering… Reibekuchen natürlich… NICHT mit Apfelmus, das gibt’s ja überall, eher mit Preiselbeeren… und dann die Champignons… da habe ich von einem Insider-Tipp profitiert.

During the drive there I had been imagining what I was going to have – of course all the salads, some salmon, some herring… potato patties of course… NO applesauce as that can be had anywhere, rather the lingonberries… and then the mushrooms… I benefited from an insider’s tip there.

Neben dem ausgesprochen leckeren Essen (jedes Mal stelle ich auf’s neue fest, dass ich beim nächsten Mal bitte noch mehr Hunger mitbringen sollte) herrscht auch immer so eine entspannte Atmosphäre – wahrscheinlich, weil sich alle Besucher schon den ganzen Tag darauf gefreut haben. Dazu verbreitet auch das Team gute Stimmung… und ich habe wieder sehr interessante Gäste entdecken können.

Every time I notice that I should have been more hungry. But in addition to the yummy food there’s also a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere – probably because all the guests have been looking forward to it all day long. Then there’s the welcoming team – and always a few interesting guests.

Und nun haben wir auch das neueste Special entdeckt: das Eifeler Grillbuffet… jeden Samstag ab 17:30. Mal sehen, wann das was wird!

And now we’ve also found out about the latest special: the Eifel Barbecue Buffet… every Saturday from 5:30 pm. I wonder when we get to try that!
