Gestern war der 21. Dezember und damit Wintersonnenwende. Jenen unter euch, denen die Dunkelheit auf die Nerven geht also die frohe Botschaft: es hat sich wieder gedreht! Ab jetzt wird es wieder jeden Tag heller und man freut sich, bis die Zirbeldrüse vorübergehend wieder verwirrt ist.

It was December 21 yesterday and winter solstice. To those of you who can’t stand the darkness anymore: it’s been turned! From now on there will be more light each day and you will be happy just until the the pineal gland gets confused again.

Aber dann das. Das ist nicht etwa Downtown Kiruna gegen 12 Uhr mittags. Oder Rovaniemi. Oder auch Fairbanks. Nein. Das war Bonn Poppelsdorf, zwar um 17:21, aber schlimm genug. Aber es geht ja aufwärts… Und übermorgen kommt das Christkind!!

But then this. This is not downtown Kiruna at about noon, in case you were wondering. Or Rovaniemi. Or Fairbanks for that matter. No. This is Bonn Poppelsdorf, though at 5:21pm – but bad enough, huh? But as I said: it’s been turned. More light every day… And Christ Child will be here the day after tomorrow, yay!!
