Gewicht und WM / Weight and World Cup

Oh Mann. Heute morgen war ich viel zu frustriert, um zu berichten. Und überhaupt. Die vergangene Woche war ein gewichtsverlusttechnisches Desaster – und ich kann nicht behaupten, dass meine Methode nicht funktioniert… es ist einfach nur die Disziplin, die mangelnde. Fester Vorsatz also für diese Woche: Disziplin in den Griff kriegen. So also das, nur aus meiner Sicht, traurige Bild:

Oh man. I was way too frustrated to report on our competition this morning. Last week has been a real loss – only not when it comes to weight. I can’t even claim that my method isn’t working… it’s only a question of discipline, or the lack thereof. I’m determined to get back on track this week: getting a grip on my discipline. That’s the state of affairs – congrats to the others:

Und dann: weiter schockierende Meldungen zum Thema Frauen Fußball-WM. Irma hat die Zurechnungsfähigkeit ihres Sohnes in Frage gestellt, als dieser erzählte, er wolle ein gemeinsames Panini-Heft mit seiner Freundin führen. Die studentische Hilfskraft fragte: „Ach, Frauen Fußball-WM, echt? Wo findet die denn statt?“ Ich gab einen Tipp; das Endspiel sei in Frankfurt am Main, nicht Frankfort/Maine… Eine andere Kollegin gab zu, dass es eigentlich keinen rationalen Grund dafür gibt, nicht anlässlich eines Frauenfußballspiels auch Spaß zu haben – es geht doch eh mehr um das Bier und den Grill… Wir werden sehen, wie sich die Dinge entwickeln. Jedenfalls kann noch bis morgen, 7.6., hier ein Freebie zum Thema gewonnen werden.

And yet more shocking news on the Women’s Soccer World Cup. Irma admitted questioning her son’s sanity when he declared he wanted to fill a Panini collection book with his friend. Our student temp asked: „Women’s Soccer World Cup? Really? Who is hosting?“ I gave her a clue; the final will be played in Frankfurt/Hesse, not Frankfort/Maine. Another colleague pondered that there was really no rational reason not to have fun watching a game – in the end it’s only about beer and barbecue anyway… We’ll see how things will develop. Anyway, there’s a freebie connected to this issue to win here.

21 Tage noch / 21 days to go

Mein Entsetzen ob der mangelnden Präsenz der Frauen-Fußball WM als Thema in Deutschland hält an. Verstärkt sich jeden Tag. Und man rufe es sich immer wieder in Erinnerung: die WM findet BEI UNS statt! Sie beginnt in genau 3 Wochen, am 26. Juni! Und, ob man es glaubt oder nicht: man kann die dämlichen Fähnchen auch aus diesem Anlass ans Auto machen. Kein Witz! Meine Fahrradflagge liegt bereit.

I still find it appalling just how little the Women’s Soccer World Cup is present in Germany, be it on TV, used in commercials or whatever.  And the horror increases every day. Be reminded: WE HOST the World Cup! It starts in three weeks exactly, on June 26. And believe it or not: the stupid little flags for the cars can be used on this occasion as well. No kidding! My bike flag is ready.

Das schockierendste jedoch hörte ich vor dem Wochenende, erst auf oben bereits erwähnter Website, dann auch im Radio. Da ging doch wer mit den traditionellen Panini Sammelalben, die 2011 zum allerersten Mal anlässlich einer Frauen Fußball WM rausgekommen sind, an eine Schule, verteilte sie kostenlos, ein paar Sticker-Päckchen noch dazu, und bekam zu hören: „Och, da sind ja Frauen drin. Das will ich nicht.“ Da läuft doch irgendwas grundsätzlich falsch, oder? Mit Aufklebern kriegt man Kinder doch immer??

The most shocking yet was what I heard on the above-mentioned website and then also on the radio. Someone decided to test the traditional Panini sticker collection books (for the first time ever it was published for a Women’s Soccer World Cup): they took a bunch to a school, handed them out for free, added a few packages with stickers and then got to hear: „Oh, there’s women inside. I don’t want that.“ Something is going horribly wrong here, don’t you think? You always get kids with the stickers, right??

Monster Update

Ich denke, ich lehne mich nicht zu weit aus dem Fenster, wenn ich sage: das Monster ist zurück – jetzt erst recht! Die Bornholmer Margeriten sind so gut wie platt und die Petunien sind froh, das sie hängender Art sind. So können sie sich nach unten flüchten…

I think it’s safe to say that the monster is back – with a vengeance! The Cape marguerites are almost gone and the petunias must be grateful to be of the hanging kind. This way they can flee downwards…

Ich wette allerdings, dass, wenn ich mich im kommenden Jahr traue, NUR die Geranie in den riesigen Kasten zu pflanzen, sie nicht so glänzen und womöglich vollkommen den Löffel abgeben wird…

I’m sure, though, that should I dare plant ONLY the geranium in that big flower box next year it won’t shine like this and maybe even pip out altogether…
