GEWONNEN!!! / WON!!!

Ein Leser, der erst in den letzten zwei, drei Wochen auf diesen Blog gestoßen ist, mag nun vermuten, dass ich mich über das 3:0 der deutschen Nationalmannschaft gegen Norwegen gestern Abend freue. Tue ich! Es war ein schönes Spiel, auch wenn ich mich schon früher über Tore gefreut hätte 😉 Und noch nie habe ich wie gerade im Nachhinein einen Live-Ticker gelesen und mich derart amüsiert.

A reader who came across this blog only two or three weeks ago may assume I celebrate the German national team’s 3-0 victory against Norway last night. I do! It was a nice game even though I would have appreciated some earlier goals 😉

Und es sind ja auch schon erste Zeichen des Übergangs von Begeisterung in Wahn zu beobachten: ich habe den Abend damit verbracht, eine Sportart live zu verfolgen, die ich bislang nur rudimentär wahrgenommen habe. Und das, obwohl auf einem anderen Kanal ein Tatort kam. Ein MÜNSTER Tatort. Gut, es war eine Wiederholung. Okay, ich habe ihn auch auf DVD. Aber ich hätte es nie für möglich gehalten.

I have noticed first signs of a transformation from mere enthusiasm to outright delusion: I spent the evening watching a sports that I have so far only noticed rudimentarily. And that despite the fact that a TATORT was on on another channel. A MÜNSTER Tatort. Okay, it was a rerun. And yes, I also have the DVD. But I would never have thought this possible.

Doch darum geht es nicht. Ich habe vielmehr zum ersten Mal bei einer Weihnachts-Challenge gewonnen!! Mein Beitrag zum Wettbewerb bei CCAYR im Mai wurde als Sieger ausgelost! Ist das ein gelungener Start ins Wochenende oder was?! Da könnte ich mich ja gleich wieder in die Bastelecke begeben 🙂

But that is not what this is about. For the first time I have won in one of the Christmas challenges!! My entry for the May challenge at CCAYR drew the winning lot! How’s that for a successful start into the weekend?! I could sit down in my creative nook again right now 🙂

„Ich hätte gerne das 11Freunde WM-Heft.“ – „Das ist da gleich hinter Ihnen, links unten.“ – „Ääh… sind Sie sicher? Da sind Männer drauf!“ – „Ja, das stimmt schon, das Frauenheft ist eine Beilage.“ Und diese Doppelausgabe sozusagen kostet noch nicht mal mehr, als eine normale…

„I’d like to have the 11Freunde World Cup issue.“ – „That’s right behind you, on the lower left.“ – „Ahem… are you sure? There are men on the cover!“ – „Yes, that’s right, the women’s magazine is a supplement.“ And this combined issue comes at the normal price…

Aber nun habe ich es, das Heft, und unglaublich, aber wahr: es ist richtig gute Lektüre, das Lesen macht Spaß. Ich habe mich nun mal intensiver mit der Gruppe A befasst, in der die deutsche Mannschaft die Vorrunde bestreiten wird. Die Gegner sind Kanada, Frankreich und Nigeria. Während die Französinnen im eigenen Land offenbar noch mit den Nachbeben des Auftritts der Herren im vergangenen Jahr in Südafrika zu kämpfen haben, sind die Kanadierinnen Geheimfavorit. Hm, muss ich da meine Tipps nochmal überdenken? Die Nigerianerinnen sind eine etwas schwer einzuschätzende Größe…

But now it’s here, the magazine and unbelievable but true: it’s a great read, it’s fun. I’ve so far checked out group A in which Germany will fight to enter the quarter finals. The opponents are the teams of Canada, France and Nigeria. Apparently, the French are still trying to make up for the performance of the men’s team in South Africa last year while the Canadians are an insider’s tip. Mmh, maybe I need to reconsider my tips in the betting pool? The Nigerians are hard to rate and could provide some surprises…

Die Quote für einen Sieg der Damen aus Äquatorial-Guinea liegt derzeit bei 1:300… bei den Deutschen lohnt sich bei 1:1,85 so rein gar nichts. Nicht, dass ich da auch noch würde einsteigen wollen, aber die Meinung der Buchmacher ist schon irgendwie hilfreich bei der Abgabe von Einschätzungen. Die Brasilianerinnen stehen bei 1:5 und damit auf Platz 2, wohingegen die US-Amerikannerinnen nur auf eine Quote von 1:7 kommen.

The bookmakers are currently offering odds of 1/300 for Equatorial Guinea… going for Germany really isn’t profitable at 1/1.85. It’s not like I had any plans to enter that territory as well but the bookies‘ opinions on things are valuable when assessing future performances. The Brazilians are at 1/5 and ranked second whereas the US Americans are at a mere 1/7.

Vorbereitungen / Preparations

„Ich hätte gerne 10 Päckchen WM-Aufkleber.“ – „Welche WM?“ … Ist eine andere absehbar, zu der es Panini-Bilder gibt? … „Die zur Frauen-WM.“ – „Hm, da haben wir schon keine mehr.“ A-HAAAA! Sickert es langsam durch? Ich habe auch schon eine kleine versteckte Ecke in einem großen Kaufhaus gefunden (im 4. Stock), wo man sich im gewissen Rahmen mit Fahnen, Schminke und Klappern ausstatten kann.

„I’d like 10 packages with World Cup stickers.“ – „Which World Cup?“ … Is there another one imminent that features Panini stickers? … „Those for the Women’s World Cup.“ – „Mmh, we’re already all out of them.“ A-HAAA! Could it slowly have leaked to the public? I’ve also come across a tiny hidden corner in a large department store (on the fifth floor) where you can get a small assortment of flags, make-up and rattles.

Anlass zur Hoffnung gibt auch, dass unser Tippspiel bereits atemberaubende 10 Teilnehmer aufzuweisen hat. Und keiner wurde gezwungen! Noch erstaunlicher: 40% sind männlich! Das sind die wahren Helden, die sich gegen Sprüche wie folgenden im Kollegenkreis wehren müssen: „Nach dem Spiel ist vor dem Spülen!“ Witzig, oder?

Those are the true heroes who have to stand up in the face of such enlightened utterings as „After the game is before doing the dishes!“ Ain’t it funny?

Immerhin 18.037 Leuten „gefällt“ gerade die Facebook-Seite der Frauen Fußball-WM 2011. Zum Vergleich: 337,419 sind’s bei den Herren (wo dann irgendwie nicht wirklich was an Info rüberkommt…). Auf der offiziellen Seite des DFB ist die Telekom als Sponsor erkennbar, mit der Aktion, 10.000 Euro für jedes Tor zu spenden – das dürfte hier deutlich großzügiger sein, als beim Herrenturnier, wenn man nach den letzten Vorbereitungsspielen gehen kann. In diesem Zusammenhang: komisch auch irgendwie, dass Nuss-Nougat-Creme den Frauen nicht zu schmecken scheint, milchige Schnitten ebenso wenig und Bier jedweder Art scheinen sie auch nicht zu trinken… Ob der Clip an sich gelungen ist, möge jeder selbst entscheiden.

18,037 people „like“ the team’s World Cup 2011 Facebook page. To put that into perspective: the men’s page has 337,419 fans… and there isn’t even anything that’s only remotely informative. On the official DFB page, Deutsche Telekom can be found as an official sponsor, announcing that they will donate 10,000 Euro per goal – judging by the last two games, I guess this offer will be remarkably more generous here than at the men’s tournament. Talking about commercials: don’t you find it amazing that women don’t seem to like chocolate spreads, much less „milky slices“ or, heaven forbid, beer of any kind… I leave it up to you to make up your mind about the video itself. I’d say it isn’t the most inspired piece I’ve seen.

Nun denn. Der restliche Sonntag sei der Kreativität gewidmet. Und am Dienstag habe ich wieder einige Bildchen zu tauschen!!

Eine Gewinnerin / A Winner

Es ist jetzt schon schwierig, Sammelalben zu bekommen oder die entsprechenden Bilder dazu. Umso härter war der Kampf um das letzte Freebie. Die Verlosung fand heute Vormittag statt – Dirk spielte Glücksfee und das Los fiel auf Anne bzw. Clara. Herzlichen Glückwunsch! Der Preis wurde bereits per Boten übergeben.

It’s already difficult to get one of the collection books or the pictures that go with them. Naturally, there was a heated fight for the latest freebie. Dirk’s help could be enlisted for the draw this morning and the winner is Anne or Clara respectively. Congratulations! The prize has already been handed over by a messenger.

Unterdessen konnte ich einen fähigen Kollegen überzeugen, eine Büro-Tippgemeinschaft einzurichten, genauso wunderbar wie im vergangenen Jahr. Als ich heute das Büro verließ, gab es schon sage und schreibe drei Teilnehmer! Mir wird ganz schwindelig…

I was able to persuade a very capable colleague to set up an online betting pool (?) at the office – just as great as last year. And when I left the office today there were three participants already! Dizzying perspectives…

Heute stelle ich mal die Nr. 13 des neuen Teams vor, die 22-jährige Celia Okoyino da Mbabi, die gestern im überzeugenden Spiel gegen die Niederlande (5:0) in der 15. Minute das deutsche Team mit 1:0 in Führung brachte. Das wär doch mal was für Lokalkolorit: in Bonn geboren und nun für den SC Bad Neuenahr spielend. Ich bin gespannt, ob sie es in die Stammelf schafft.

Today I’d like to introduce Germany’s no. 13 to you: Celia Okoyino da Mbabi. She scored the first goal for her team that won 5-0 against the Netherlands yesterday – it was a great performance. And how’s that for some local color: born in Bonn she now plays at SC Bad Neuenahr. I’m curious to know whether she makes it into the starting team.

Und, wie sieht’s aus? 18 Tage vor dem ersten Spiel der deutschen Mannschaft am 26. Juni um 18 Uhr gegen Kanada… das wär doch ein Top-Abschluss für ein Feiertagswochenende! Da findet sich doch bestimmt jemand!

So what’s up? 18 days to go before Germany plays Canada on June 26 at 6pm GMT+2… don’t you think it would be a great ending to the extended holiday weekend? I’m sure there are friends around who can’t pass on the opportunity!

Gewicht und WM / Weight and World Cup

Oh Mann. Heute morgen war ich viel zu frustriert, um zu berichten. Und überhaupt. Die vergangene Woche war ein gewichtsverlusttechnisches Desaster – und ich kann nicht behaupten, dass meine Methode nicht funktioniert… es ist einfach nur die Disziplin, die mangelnde. Fester Vorsatz also für diese Woche: Disziplin in den Griff kriegen. So also das, nur aus meiner Sicht, traurige Bild:

Oh man. I was way too frustrated to report on our competition this morning. Last week has been a real loss – only not when it comes to weight. I can’t even claim that my method isn’t working… it’s only a question of discipline, or the lack thereof. I’m determined to get back on track this week: getting a grip on my discipline. That’s the state of affairs – congrats to the others:

Und dann: weiter schockierende Meldungen zum Thema Frauen Fußball-WM. Irma hat die Zurechnungsfähigkeit ihres Sohnes in Frage gestellt, als dieser erzählte, er wolle ein gemeinsames Panini-Heft mit seiner Freundin führen. Die studentische Hilfskraft fragte: „Ach, Frauen Fußball-WM, echt? Wo findet die denn statt?“ Ich gab einen Tipp; das Endspiel sei in Frankfurt am Main, nicht Frankfort/Maine… Eine andere Kollegin gab zu, dass es eigentlich keinen rationalen Grund dafür gibt, nicht anlässlich eines Frauenfußballspiels auch Spaß zu haben – es geht doch eh mehr um das Bier und den Grill… Wir werden sehen, wie sich die Dinge entwickeln. Jedenfalls kann noch bis morgen, 7.6., hier ein Freebie zum Thema gewonnen werden.

And yet more shocking news on the Women’s Soccer World Cup. Irma admitted questioning her son’s sanity when he declared he wanted to fill a Panini collection book with his friend. Our student temp asked: „Women’s Soccer World Cup? Really? Who is hosting?“ I gave her a clue; the final will be played in Frankfurt/Hesse, not Frankfort/Maine. Another colleague pondered that there was really no rational reason not to have fun watching a game – in the end it’s only about beer and barbecue anyway… We’ll see how things will develop. Anyway, there’s a freebie connected to this issue to win here.

21 Tage noch / 21 days to go

Mein Entsetzen ob der mangelnden Präsenz der Frauen-Fußball WM als Thema in Deutschland hält an. Verstärkt sich jeden Tag. Und man rufe es sich immer wieder in Erinnerung: die WM findet BEI UNS statt! Sie beginnt in genau 3 Wochen, am 26. Juni! Und, ob man es glaubt oder nicht: man kann die dämlichen Fähnchen auch aus diesem Anlass ans Auto machen. Kein Witz! Meine Fahrradflagge liegt bereit.

I still find it appalling just how little the Women’s Soccer World Cup is present in Germany, be it on TV, used in commercials or whatever. And the horror increases every day. Be reminded: WE HOST the World Cup! It starts in three weeks exactly, on June 26. And believe it or not: the stupid little flags for the cars can be used on this occasion as well. No kidding! My bike flag is ready.

Das schockierendste jedoch hörte ich vor dem Wochenende, erst auf oben bereits erwähnter Website, dann auch im Radio. Da ging doch wer mit den traditionellen Panini Sammelalben, die 2011 zum allerersten Mal anlässlich einer Frauen Fußball WM rausgekommen sind, an eine Schule, verteilte sie kostenlos, ein paar Sticker-Päckchen noch dazu, und bekam zu hören: „Och, da sind ja Frauen drin. Das will ich nicht.“ Da läuft doch irgendwas grundsätzlich falsch, oder? Mit Aufklebern kriegt man Kinder doch immer??

The most shocking yet was what I heard on the above-mentioned website and then also on the radio. Someone decided to test the traditional Panini sticker collection books (for the first time ever it was published for a Women’s Soccer World Cup): they took a bunch to a school, handed them out for free, added a few packages with stickers and then got to hear: „Oh, there’s women inside. I don’t want that.“ Something is going horribly wrong here, don’t you think? You always get kids with the stickers, right??

Fußball und anderes / Soccer and others

Man erlebt immer wieder ganz erstaunliche Dinge. Und manchmal regt man sich dann auf. So auch wieder gestern im Supermarkt. Erfreut stellte ich fest, dass es wieder mal „Fußballbildchen“ in bestimmten Schokoriegeln gibt. „Oh super,“ denke ich, „bald ist ja auch Frauenfußball-WM in Deutschland!“ Kaufe aus Solidarität trotz Diät-Wettkampf zwei – nur, um dann festzustellen, dass es irgendwelche hinterbänklerischen, gegelten Bundeliga-Profis sind! Ich bin ja nicht gerade der heißeste Verehrer des Frauenfußballs, aber diese Ignoranz ist unglaublich. Auch wenn man mich sonst nicht so dafür begeistern kann (aber für die Bundesliga ebensowenig!), so wird doch, wenn das Turnier erstmal läuft, wieder der wild schreiende Patriot aus mir hervorbrechen! Jawoll!! Allerspätestens am 17. Juli zum Endspiel in Frankfurt, da bin ich nämlich dabei. So!

Sometimes there are these strange things happening, like yesterday when I was grocery shopping. I was excited to see that there are „soccer pictures“ included with certain chocolate bars again. „Oh great,“ I thought „soon there’ll be the women’s soccer world cup in Germany.“ And then, being all solidarity, I buy two of them – despite the dietary competition that I am in… only to find that they are of some unknown Bundesliga pros with greasily styled hairdos! I’m certainly not one of the most ardent fans of women’s soccer but the ignorance involved here is unspeakable. I don’t usually get excited about it (but neither do I when it comes to Bundesliga!) but I know that once the championship has started the dormant wildly cheering patriot will erupt again! At the very latest on July 17 when I will be present at Frankfurt stadium to watch the final! So there!

Aber eigentlich wollte ich doch was ganz anderes berichten! Ich habe eine neue Weihnachtskarten-Challenge gefunden 🙂 Bei Bah!Humbug! gibt’s auch jede Woche in neues Thema… oh, hört es denn nie auf?? Diese Woche ist man inspiriert von Jingle Bells – also vor allem Glöckchen sollen in der Kreation auftauchen.

Anyway, I was going to tell you something completely different! I’ve found another Christmas Card Challenge 🙂 Does it ever stop?? There’s a new one at Bah! Humbug!every week and this week’s is inspired by Jingle Bells – so the focus is on bells.
