Das ist unsere hauseigene Krippe, professionell gestaltet von meiner Schwester. Das ist die Arbeitsaufteilung: Baum – Barbara, Krippe – Kathrin. Es war bislang nur einmal anders. Wie auch immer. Auf dem Speicher jedoch ist mir eine ganz besondere Gruppe in die Hände geraten. Die Heilige Familie made by me in ca. 1987. Das ist Josef. Von vorne erinnert er mich mehr an einen alternden Fuzzy aus Rauchende Colts, von der Seite dann eher an Mrs. Olsen aus Unsere kleine Farm – die dominante Gemischtwarenhändlerin.

This is the naticity scene we set up at home every year, professionally designed by my sister. That’s the division of tasks: Tree – Barbara, Nativity Scene – Kathrin. It has been different only once as far as I can remember. Anyway. I came across a very special set on the attic yesterday. The Holy Family made by me in ca. 1987. This is Joseph. From up front he reminds me of one of the guys on Smoking Guns, in silhouette more of Mrs. Olsen of Little House on the Prairie – the patronising grocer.

Das ist Maria. Also… nach dieser Darstellung war sie wirklich arm dran, schon in jungen Jahren alle Zähne verloren und sieht wirklich verbittert aus (ähnlich wie Josef, der auch nicht gerade froh dreinblickt).

Then THIS is Mary. Well… according to this image of her she was really, really poor as apparently she has lost all her teeth already and is embittered (quite similar to Joseph who doesn’t exactly look happy, either.

Aber das ist mein Liebling. Es ist NICHT der Hirtenhund und auch nicht Nesthäkchen mit Affenschaukeln… es ist ein Schaf.

But this is my favorite. It is NOT a shepherd’s dog and it is not Star War’s Princess Lea… it’s a sheep (as my sister tells me Princess Lea’s hairdo reminds her of the sheep or vice versa… I wouldn’t know).

Sonst alles bestens – zwar weiter kein Schnee, aber die Ente war gelungen und Egg Nog gab’s auch 😉

All else is well – though we still don’t have snow, but the duck turned out really yummy and the egg nog, too 😉

Auch in der Eifel steht nun der Baum. Und wie. Es war ein Triumph für meinen Vater, nach dem Desaster 2007, das ihm noch tief in den Knochen steckte. Der Baum berührt exakt mit einer Nadel die Decke. Gefragt, ob das eher das Augenmaß des Händlers Ewald oder seins war, antwortete er empört, es sei NATÜRLICH seins gewesen. Er ist also voll rehabilitiert.

We’ve put up the tree in the Eifel as well. And what a perfect fit it is. It was a triumph for my father, after the disastrous choice and major misjudgement of 2007 – which had still been nagging him. The tree touches the ceiling with exactly one needle. When I wanted to know whether this was due to Ewald the trader’s skills or his he replied indignantly that OF COURSE due to his skills. He’s fully vindicated.
