Glitzer, Glimmer, Glitter…

Endlich mal wieder Zeit für die Jingle Belles! Es hat mir gefehlt! Und in dieser Challenge geht es um „Bling“… was soviel heißt, wie möglichst viel glitzerndes zu verwenden. Und über Mangel an Glitzer kann man hier wirklich nicht klagen:

Finally it’s time for the Jingles Belles again! (That is: my participation… they’ve been going strong all along). Oh, I’ve missed it! And this is all about BLING: „create a holiday card which incorporates bling, glitter, glitz, gems, shimmer, or anything sparkly!“

Zugegeben: bis auf die kleinen Pseudo-Edelsteinchen habe ich mich auf Glitter konzentriert – aber da auch keine halben Sachen gemacht. Bis auf den Schneemann glittert hier alles!

I admit: other than the tiny rhinestones I focused on glitter – I went the whole nine yards so to speak. Everything other than the snowman is pure glitter!

Bald / Soon

Die mich an Apenveilchen erinnernde Pflanze oben ist der Hundszahn. Den habe ich gestern im Botanischen Garten gefunden und damit ist die Katze aus dem Sack: dies wird ein Fotoeintrag. Auf der Suche nach dem Frühling an einem wunderbaren Sonnentag. Und wenn sie aufgeht, sieht die Blüte so aus:

The plant above which reminds me of a cyclamen is in fact a dogtooth violet. I found it at the Botanical Gardens yesterday and with this I’ve let the cat out of the sack: this is a photo post. Looking for signs of spring on a wonderfully sunny day. And when it opens up, the blossom looks like this:

Wie kalt es war bzw. noch ist, wurde mir klar, als ich feststellen musste, dass auf der „Narzissenwiese“ noch so gut wie keine Narzissen blühen. Aber da guckt man sich dann eben nach anderen Farbklecksen um.

I realized just how cold it was or actually still is when I noticed that only a handful of daffodils are already in bloom on the „daffodil field“. But then I found all those other colorful spots.

Und ich sage euch, in der kommenden Woche wird es so richtig losgehen, Blüten, Blätter und ja, wohl auch Pollen, aber wen das nicht anficht, der sollte sich am kommenden Wochenende auf in den Botanischen Garten machen und den Frühling in sich aufsaugen.

Let me tell you: spring is about to start this week, blossoms, leaves and yes, pollen also. But if you don’t mind the latter you should go to the Botanical Gardens next weekend (if you happen to be around 😉 ) and absorb spring.

Das mittlere Foto zeigt einen Ausschnitt meines geliebten Rhododendron Rondells, auf dessen nähere Beobachtung ich dieses Jahr verzichten werde. Also: zumindest auf die Berichterstattung darüber. Dafür habe ich mir den unteren Baum ausgesucht, der stumpfblättrige Ahorn (Acer opalus). Er ist sozusagen mein Baum des Jahres.

The second picture shows a small part of my beloved rhododendrons – but I will pass on a closer inspection this year. That is: on reporting on it. Instead I’ve decided on the tree in the third picture: the Bosnian maple (Acer opalus). It’s my Tree of the Year so to speak.

Oh… Christmas Tree!

Ja – nun ist es schon April und ich habe kaum eine Weihnachtskarte fertig… wie soll das noch enden? Hauptsächlich bin ich aber froh, endlich mal wieder aktiv geworden zu sein… es ist momentan sehr hektisch bei mir im Büro und ich komme zu nichts. Aber es wird sich wieder ändern.

Can you believe it’s April already and I have made only a handful of Christmas cards yet? I’m headed for disaster! But today I’m happy I found time to sit down and get active again… there’s currently a lot going on at the office and there’s not much time left for other things. But that will change again at some point.

Wo man sich interessante Themen sucht, weiß ich ja und auch diese Woche bin ich bei CCAYR fündig geworden, da heißt es „O Christmas Tree!“ Diese kleinen Weihnachtsbäume mit den Perlen als Kugeln hatte ich schon ein Weilchen, aber manchmal liegen die Materialien ja jahrelang rum, bevor einem die passende Idee kommt.

Of course I know where to find inspiration and CCAYR’s current challenge „O Christmas Tree“ was the right one! I’ve had these little Christmas trees with the pearl baubles for a while but sometimes things sit on my shelves for years before I find out what they were destined for.

Nun nicht lachen, ihr Bastler: ich habe erst seit wenigen Wochen die Stanzschablonen für mein Cuttlebug und habe hier stundenlang rumgestanzt. Es ist also zu erwarten, dass man hier in den nächsten Wochen mehr davon zu sehen bekommt. Und ich habe auch eine größere Auswahl als nur als diese Kreise mit Keksrand – aber man kann ja nicht alles auf einmal testen. Jedenfalls wurde es so wild, dass ich gleich noch mehr Karten im gleichen Design gemacht habe, auch wenn man meinen könnte, ich hatte eher Frühlingsblumen im Kopf als Weihnachtsbäume…

Now don’t laugh you creative folks out there: it’s been only a few weeks that I got those die cut thingies for my Cuttlebug and I have been punching for hours. You can expect to see more of that in the upcoming weeks. And yes, I do have more than just the scalloped circles – but I take it one at a time! Anyhow, it was a wild ride so I made a few more cards of that design. Now that I look at the picture: there may have been spring flowers on my mind rather than Christmas trees…

Küken / Chicks

Gestern Abend war ich Gastgeberin eines Massage-Abends. Das funktioniert so, dass man 5 Freundinnen einlädt und die Masseurin dazu und während dann jeweils einer für eine halbe Stunde mit wohlduftenden Ölen verwöhnt wird, sitzen die anderen über Getränken und Snacks in der Küche und schnacken. Für gestern hatte ich mir Snack-mäßig was auf Facebook abgeguckt (ich kann die Quelle leider nicht mehr finden):

Last night I hosted a massage night. It works like this: you invite up to five friends, add a masseuse and while one friend is being pampered with fragrant oils, the others sit in the kitchen and chat over snacks and drinks. As for snacks, I had found these cute little guys on Facebook (and can’t for the life of me find the source anymore):

Im Prinzip sind es nur gefüllte Eier, aber in dieser Form fand ich, passten sie sehr gut zur Jahreszeit! Die Schnäbel sind aus Möhren geschnitzt, die Augen sind aus Olivenstückchen. Es war dann doch erheblich zeitintensiver, als gedacht… und trotzdem sah einer aus, als hätte er sich beim Schlüpfen gleich geprügelt…

The are basically just devilled eggs but I loved how they were made to fit the season! The beaks were „carved“ from carrots, the eyes are tiny bits of olives. It took a lot more time than I had anticipated… and still one of them looked as if he’d gotten into a fight while hatching…

Nachdem wir noch eine Freundin in Köln abgeholt hatten, ein Greenhorn, wie ich es letztes Jahr war, merkte man es dann auch auf den Autobahnen am frühren Samstagmorgen: immer mehr Kleinwagen, mit zwischen zwei und vier Frauen besetzt.

After we had picked up a friend in Cologne, a greenhorn just as I had been last year, we noticed it on the highways the closer we got to the venue: there were more and more small cars out there, occupied by two to four women.

Wir waren auf dem Weg zur CREATIVA 2013… oben sieht man einen Teil einer von fünf Hallen. Und da zähle ich noch nicht mal die Bären- Puppenausstellung in Halle 3b mit.

We were on our way to CREATIVA 2013… on the picture above you can see a part of one of five halls. And that is not counting hall no. 3b where there was a teddy bear and doll exhibition.

Manchmal sah es aus wie bei einer bekannten Supermarktkette morgens um 8 Uhr an einem Tag mit Aktionsartikeln. Beim Mittagessen diskutierten wir, dass die Quote unter den Besuchern wahrscheinlich bei einem Mann auf 25 Frauen liegt. Entsprechend hatten erstere es schwer, die für sie ausgewiesenen Toiletten zu benutzen. Dann wissen die aber auch mal, wie das ist, wenn man stundenlang Schlange stehen muss..

Sometimes it felt as if it was the day of the week’s special of a large supermarket chain. We discussed over lunch that there was probably less than one man for every 25 women present. As a consequence, it was hard for the former to actually use the bathrooms that bore the guy symbol. But now they all know what it means to queue up…

Während die Frauen die Westfalenhallen bevölkerten, rückten die Männer zum benachbarten Westfalenstadion an. Wir machten kurz vor der Halbzeitpause den Abgang und hörten quasi live den beginnenden Untergang von Freiburg… Und ich freue mich schon auf 2014!

While the women were populating the fair venue, the men arrived at the adjacent soccer stadium. We left shortly before half-time and heard how Freiburg was starting to go under… and I’m already looking forward to 2014!

Osterhasen / Easter bunnies

Auch wenn hier der Winter noch mal nachdrücklich zurückgekehrt ist, habe ich mich frühlingshaft inspirieren lassen. Bei Brenda’s Floral Fantasies läuft ja eine ganz große Challenge – und man kann bis zu dreimal teilnehmen. Es gilt, sich auf ihrem Blog inspirieren zu lassen. Und ihre Frühlingskarte mit Hasen hat mich erinnert, dass ich auch ein paar Osterkarten brauche…

Even though winter returned with a vengeance, I’ve felt inspired by spring. There’s a huge challenge going on over at Brenda’s Floral Fantasies – and you can enter up to three cards which have to be inspired by something on her blog. My inspiration came from her Beautiful Spring entry which featured a card with bunnies and reminded me that I also need a few Easter cards…

Sehr einfach… und sehr gut massenproduktionstauglich. So habe ich mich dann auch gleich mit einer neuen Tasse Tee hingesetzt und in mehreren Farben mehrere Exemplare hergestellt. Mittlerweile auch noch in stärkeren Farben, aber davon habe ich noch kein Foto.

Very simple… and very easy to mass produce. So I sat down with another cup of tea and made more in more colors. In the meantime I’ve also used stronger colors but I haven’t taken a picture of those yet.

Morgen versuche ich, an der Rest der dritten Staffel von Downton Abbey zu kommen, am Samstag geht’s zur Creativa… und dann erhole ich mich noch von einem Treppensturz gestern: feuchte Schuhsohlen und ab ging die Post. Aber ich habe irgendwie Glück gehabt – nur der linke Ellenbogen ist etwas in Mitleidenschaft gezogen und der Rücken ist ein einziger Muskelkater… Es geht nichts über einen Start in den Morgen mit einem herzhaften Fluch auf den Lippen…

Tomorrow I will try to get a hold of the rest of the third season of Downton Abbey, then on Saturday we will go to the Creativa fair… and in addition I’m recovering from falling down the stairs yesterday: wet shoe soles and off I went. But I guess I was lucky – the left elbow suffered a bit and my back is one huge muscle ache… You can’t beat starting your day with a hearty curse on your lips…

Eifeler Grillbuffet / Eifel Barbecue Buffet

Gestern war es soweit: nach zahlreichen Besuchen des freitäglichen Reibekuchenbuffets haben mein Vater und ich nun auch das Eifeler Grillbuffet im Hotel Schäfer in Schuld unter die Lupe genommen. Punkt 18 Uhr sind wir aufgeschlagen, während die Schulder Bevölkerung noch mit dem Kirchgang gleich gegenüber beschäftigt war.

We finally did it yesterday: after many visits to the Potato Patty Buffet at Hotel Schäfer in Schuld we checked out their Eifel Barbecue Buffet. We arrived at 6pm sharp while the people of Schuld were still in church across the street.

Nun ja, was soll ich sagen: es war mal wieder ausgesprochen lecker und vielseitig. Und auch Leute wie ich, die nicht soooo viel Fleisch essen, kommen auf ihre Kosten: Salate, Pellkartoffeln mit Kräuterquark, Sauerkraut, Rahmwirsing, Kartoffelbrei – da kann man sich auch fleischlos was zusammenstellen und muss kein Spielverderber sein.

Well, what can I say: again, it was a yummy and very varied affair. And people like me who wouldn’t exactly be considered carnivores get their share, too: salads, potatoes boiled in their jackets with sour cream and herbs, sauerkraut, savoy cabbage with cream, mashed potatoes – you can stay vegetarian and not be a spoilsport. Though maybe you have to discover your German palate…

Kurz schoss mir der Gedanke durch den Kopf, dass die tief katholische Eifel wohl auch auf dem direkten Weg zur Hölle sein muss – wenn ein „All you can eat“ in der Fastenzeit bestens besucht ist 😉 Dann fiel mein Blick noch auf folgendes und mir wurde klar, dass es noch einen weiteren vielversprechenden Anlass gibt, das Hotel Schäfer aufzusuchen:

Bald werde ich auch wieder basteln, ich bin ziemlich sicher. Aber mein Kollege hatte doch allen Ernstes die dritte Staffel DOWNTON ABBEY im Angebot. Ich hab‘ schon viel geheult, gelacht, Leute verflucht und habe schon schlimmste Ideen, wie es weitergehen könnte… und dabei erst drei Folgen gesehen… bald bin ich durch und dann muss ich ganz lange warten. Eins jedoch ist sicher: ich bin zu einer glühenden Verehrerin von Maggie Smith geworden. Aber nun: habt einen schönen Sonntag!

Very soon I will come up with a new card, too, I’m rather sure. But my colleague turned up with the the third season of DOWNTON ABBEY. I’ve already cried, laughed and cursed people a lot and have the wildest phantasies of what else will happen… and have only seen three episodes so far… soon it will be over and then there will be a looong wait. One thing’s for sure, though: I’ve become a huge fan of Maggie Smith. But for now: have a great Sunday!

Floral Realities…

Die Frühjahrsmüdigkeit hat mich fest im Griff. Heute morgen durfte ich feststellen, was passiert, wenn man bei meinem Wecker 8x auf die Schlummer-Funktion gehauen hat: der Wecker ist aus. Es war ein hektischer Start in den Tag.

Spring tiredness really has a grip on me. This morning I learned what happens when you hit the snooze button of my alarm clock eight times: it’s switched off. Needless to say, I had a hectic start into the day.

Und das auch noch vollkommen sinnlos. Bei Bauarbeiten an den Bahngleisen wurde scheinbar ein Hauptkabel für die Internetverbindung zerstört, so dass den ganzen Tag keine Mails kamen… mein Hauptprogramm verabschiedete sich gegen Mittag und als dann irgendwann die Ablage erledigt war, entschied ich mich für einen frühen Feierabend und einen Besuch im Botanischen Garten. Das erste Eis der Saison gab’s auch 🙂 Es folgen Fotos der Frühlingsboten.

And it was all for nothing. The railway tracks are being exchanged near our office and apparently a main cable was cut so that our office was without internet for the day, no mails coming in (or going out, for that matter)… the program I mainly work with quit at about noon and when I had finished filing all that needed filing I decided to call it an early day and go to the Botanical Gardens instead. And to have the first ice-cream of the season 🙂 Now have a look at the harbingers of spring!

Floral Fantasies… and others

Ja, ich bin noch da. Und hier war es lange ruhig… ich kann es nicht darauf schieben, wieder Badminton zu spielen (das ist nur ein Abend). Auch nicht auf etwaigen Stress im Büro. Oder auf die Grippe. Besuch hatte ich – aber nur vier Tage. Aber der Besuch ist trotzdem schuld, denn ich wurde auf mieseste Weise angesteckt. Und zwar vom Downton Abbey-Virus. Der legt einen vollkommen und dauerhaft lahm. Ich habe nur noch das Weihnachtsspecial der zweiten Staffel übrig und das muss heute Abend dran glauben. Danach habe ich vorerst mein Leben zurück.

Yes, I’m still there. And it’s been silent here for a while… I can’t blame playing badminton again (it’s only once a week). Or that I had been exceptionally busy at the office. Or that I was down with the flu. I did have a visitor – but that was only four days. But the visitor is in fact to blame because she infected me with a nasty virus. It’s the Downton Abbey virus. It will put you out completely and for a long time. There’s only the Christmas Special of the second season left and that will be watched tonight. Then I will have a life again.

Was ich immerhin noch geschafft habe ist, einige Kreativblogs zu verfolgen und so stolperte ich bei Gail über den Hinweis auf Brenda’s Floral Fantasies Feierlichkeiten anlässlich des vierten Geburtstags ihres Blogs und des 4.000 Followers. Man soll sich von irgendwas auf ihrem Blog inspirieren lassen… ich habe mich für BLUMEN entschieden… denn bald kommen sie alle wieder!

I did manage to follow my creative blog regulars and came across Brenda’s Floral Fantasies 4th Blogaversary/4,000 followers celebrations on Gail’s blog. The challenge is to be inspired by anything whatsoever on her blog… and all I saw was FLOWERS somehow… I guess because I’m waiting for them to start blooming soon!

Von 4.000 Followers bin ich noch weit entfernt, aber ich sehe gerade: es sind 29 – Willkommen! Ich werde feiern, wenn es 32 sind 😉 Doch nun noch schnell was essen und dann zum Weihnachtsspecial!

I have a long way to go until 4,000 followers but I just noticed I’ve got a 29th, welcome! I will celebrate once I reach 32 😉 But now I’ll grab a bite and watch that Christmas special!

Anything goes… again!

Alles geht bei der Sparkles Christmas Challenges in diesem Monat und ich habe mich entschieden, mal die Tea Bag Fold-Technik zu testen. Dazu gab es ein anschauliches Video von Rosie Owens. Ich habe da sicher noch Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten, aber der erste Versuch gefällt mir ganz gut:

Anything goes is the motto at this month’s challenge at Sparkles Christmas Challenges and I decided to give tea bag folding a first try. I’ve found a nice how-to video by Rosie Owens online. I think my card leaves room to grow but I quite like my first try:

Ich war so begeistert von dem kleinen Baum, dass mir irgendwie weitere Deko ganz abgegangen ist… aber bis Weihnachten werde ich ja noch einige Zeit für weitere Experimente haben!

I was so excited about this little tree that I completely stopped thinking about further deco for the card… but Christmas being still a ways off I think I might suqeeze in a few more experiments of the sort!
