Willkommen zu Tag 1 der Feierlichkeiten anlässlich meines Relaunch! Und heute steige ich groß ein mit einem exotischen Freebie. Aber der Reihe nach. Der Blick im Foto oben ist ja fast unbezahlbar – leider habe ich den gerade nicht. So kann man aufwachen, wenn man auf der Insel Sansibar, die zu Tansania gehört, Urlaub macht.

Welcome to day 1 celebrating my relaunch! Today features an exotic freebie. But let’s take it step by step. The view in the picture above is almost invaluable – unfortunately it’s not my view right now. That’s what you can wake up to while vacationing on the island of Zanzibar (Tanzania).

Wenn man sich die Bilder so ansieht, fragt man sich schon, was die da 1890 beim Helgoland-Sansibar-Vertrag im Kopf hatten. Ich meine: nichts gegen Helgoland, aber das hier sieht schon mehr wie ein Traumziel aus, oder?

When I look at these pictures I do wonder what they had in mind when drawing up the Helgoland-Zanzibar-Treaty in 1890. I mean: Helgoland is fine but this does look a lot more like a dream destination, doesn’t it?

Sansibar ist bekannt für seine Gewürze und bildet gemeinsam mit Mafia Island die sog. Spice Islands. Hauptsächlich werden Nelken, Muskatnuss, Zimt und Pfeffer produziert. Hm, weihnachtlich sympathisch!

Zanzibar is known for its spices and is together with Mafia Island often referred to as the Spice Islands. Cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and pepper are their main products. Mmh, wonderfully Christmassy!

Aber kommen wir mal zum heutigen Freebie, zur Verfügung gestellt von Katja, einer treuen Leserin und Freebie-Süchtigen (ebenso wie die Fotos, wenn nicht anders angegeben). Vielen Dank dafür! Vielleicht habt ihr es in der Zwischenzeit erraten: es geht im weitesten Sinne um Sansibar! Es gibt einen tansanischen Kanga zu gewinnen UND eine Packung „Mix Pilau Rice“ direkt von Sansibar! Wobei man bei letzterem wahrscheinlich schon gewonnen hat, wenn man die beiliegenden Zubereitungsschritte verstanden hat…

But let’s get to today’s freebie, provided by Katja, a loyal reader and freebie addict (who also took the pictures unless otherwise indicated). Many thanks! Maybe you’ve guessed it in the meantime: it’s basically about Zanzibar! You can win a Tanzanian kanga AND a package of „Mix Pilau Rice“ directly from Zanzibar! Though I guess you’ve won already should you be able to understand the cooking instructions that come with it…

Ein Kanga macht immer eine Aussage, verschiedenster Art. Er hat einen typischen Aufbau: einen Außenrahmen (pindo), den Mittelteil (mji) und einen Schriftzug (jina). Hier eine Nahaufnahme des Schriftzugs, der übersetzt soviel heißt wie: „Unsere Freundschaft ist bemerkenswert, macht es uns nach, wenn ihr könnt.“

A kanga always has something to say. The make-up has three elements: the border (pindo), the middle part (mji) and the inscription (jina). This is a close-up of the inscription which means something like: „Our friendship is remarkable – do as we do if you can.“

Um das Freebie zu gewinnen, musst du einen anderen jina finden, der dir gefällt, und im Original und der Übersetzung in eine Weltsprache (naja, sagen wir mal Englisch, Französisch oder Deutsch) hier als Kommentar hinterlassen.
