Fragt mich nicht, wie ich das auch noch gebacken kriege – ich weiß es nicht. Ich vermute allerdings, ich werde am 18. Juli (Tag nach dem Endspiel der Fußball-WM) einfach nur noch wortlos zusammenbrechen. Zur Teilnahme an der einen oder andere Challenge komme ich noch, leider nicht mehr wirklich dazu, auch die vielen wunderschönen Karten der anderen Teilnehmer zu begutachten. Nun ja. Bei der ABC Christmas Challenge heißt es momentan jedenfalls M – ist für monochrome. Die Karte ist Teil einer wahnwitzigen Elch-Serie… dazu vielleicht später mehr!

Don’t ask me how I manage it all – I don’t know. I’m pretty sure, though, that I’ll just silently crash on July 18 (the day after the final of the World Cup). I do manage to participate in a few challenges but unfortunately there’s just no time to look at all the wonderful creations of my fellow participants. Oh well. At ABC Christmas Challenge we’re at M – is for Monochrome this time. The card I made is part of a crazy moose series… more on that maybe some other time!

Und wieder ein Wettbewerb! Beim Sparkles Forum gilt es im Juni, sich mit Schneemännern zu beschäftigen… und natürlich konnte ich nicht anders 🙂

Langsam trage ich mich dann doch mit dem Gedanken, einen Stand auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt aufzumachen – ich glaube, meine Weihnachtskartenkiste hat bereits um die 70 Bewohner. Und das Jahr ist noch nicht mal halb rum… Diese Woche geht es bei Bah! Humbug! um Schals und Handschuhe, wobei ich mich auf die Handschuhe beschränkt habe. Und dann habe ich noch festgestellt, dass das Design mit mindestens 3 Lagen Papier auch die Anforderungen für den aktuellen Wettbewerb bei Jingle Belles entspricht. Also eine Karte in zwei Challenges:

I have to say I do start thinking about opening a booth on this Christmas market – the population of my Christmas card box has reached about 70. And we haven’t even reached the end of June… This week’s theme at Bah! Humbug! is scarves and mittens – I went with mittens only. I came across Jingle Belles in the process and realized that this card matches the requirements for their challenge this week: all bundled up, i.e. three or more layers of paper or other „ingredients“. So here’s the card that I’ve entered into both challenges:

Trotz meines derzeitigen Fokus auf die Fußball-WM komme ich noch zu kreativen Ergüssen. Bei der Winter Wonderland Challenge geht es diese Woche um „swirls and pearls“… ein schwieriges Thema für mich, die grundsätzlich eigentlich eher ein Freund von klaren Linien ist… Perlen sind bislang auch noch nie vorgekommen. Aber erstens ist es ja genau das, was mir an den Challenges gefällt – mal was anderes auszuprobieren – und zweitens gab es doch tatsächlich einen Weg, das zu vereinen:

Despite being preoccupied with the soccer World Cup I find time for a creative outpourings here and there. „Swirls and Pearls“ are this week’s Challenge at Winter Wonderland… which is a difficult one for me as I’m more into clear lines usually… and pearls have not featured at all so far. But on the one hand that is exactly what I like about the challenges – to try something new – and on the other hand I think I’ve found a pretty way to unite them:

Dieses kleine Detail gefällt mir besonders gut: die weihnachtlichen Worte auf den Blütenblättern. Irgendwie subtil, aber doch der klare Hinweis, dass es Weihnachtspapier ist…

I particularly like this little detail: the Christmas related words on the petals. Somehow subtle, yet also a clear hint for those who do not see why this paper would be „Christmassy“.

Und dann gibt’s da noch den Blick in die Innenseite, mit dem weißen Schriftfeld für die Weihnachtsgrüße. Das war auch der erste Einsatz meines neuen Stern-Eckenstanzers!

And then there’s a view of the inside, with a white label for the Christmas greetings. That was the premiere of my new star corner punch!

Neue Ideen… Bei Winter Wonderland ist Kreativität in blau und weiß gefragt in dieser Woche – und das verbunden mit einem Blog Hop. Das Konzept ist mir ja schon öfter untergekommen, aber ich habe mich nie so wirklich damit beschäftigt. Es schließt sich eine Gruppe Kreativer zusammen, die alle zum gleichen Thema gearbeitet haben und man „hüpft“ von einem Blog zum anderen, guckt sich die Arbeiten an, kommentiert, verlinkt seine eigene Arbeit und löst – in diesem Fall zumindest – ein Rätsel. Daran arbeite ich auch noch…

New ideas… Winter Wonderland asks for creativity in blue and white this week – and combines this with a blog hop. I’ve come across blog hops before but have never really read in detail what it is about. A group of creative people works on the same subject and the audience „hops“ from one blog to the next, has a look at the creations, comments, leaves a link to their own creation and solves – in this case at least – a mystery. I’m working on it…

Blau und weiß. Ich hatte den alten Atlas im Kopf und die Karte vom Sternenhimmel. Blauer Himmel und weiße Sterne. Und darauf sah ich die Rentiere auf dem Weg zu Santa Claus… Das war nicht wirklich viel Arbeit und es ist zugegebenermaßen eine eher ungewöhnliche Weihnachtskarte, aber ich finde, sie hat was.

Blue and white. I remembered the old map book and the stellar map in particular. Blue sky and white stars. And on it I saw the reindeer, on their way to Santa Claus… It wasn’t a lot of work, really and admittedly, it’s a rather unusual Christmas card but somehow there’s something about it.

Und jetzt finde ich raus, was ich sonst noch tun muss, damit ich erfolgreich am Blog Hop teilnehme…

Im Mai ging bzw. geht es bei CCAYR ja noch ein paar Tage darum fünf Weihnachtskarten zu basteln, die in ihrer Aufteilung halbwegs einem vorgegebenen Muster entsprechen, siehe zur linken. Es war viel, viel schwieriger, als ich jemals gedacht hätte… Aber nun sind sie vollbracht – für mein Gefühl „kleben“ sie zu sehr an der Vorlage:

The May Challenge at CCAYR was to create five Christmas cards along the sketch to the left. That turned out to be a whole lot more difficult than I had imagined… Here’s the result – to my eye they try to stick to the sketch too much:

Diese Schneemannkarte hatte ich hier bereits Anfang des Monats veröffentlicht, da sie auch an einem anderen Wettbewerb teilgenommen hat.
I had published this snowman card here earlier this month already as it was an entry into a second challenge as well.

Ich hatte gehofft, heute würde es wie vorhergesagt ordentlich regnen und gewittern – es wäre dann irgendwie besser zu argumentieren gewesen, dass man den Tag mehr oder weniger in der Wohnung verbringt. Aber nun ja… Jedenfalls: was für eine coole Sache bei ABC Christmas Challenge! Zuerst war ich nicht angetan… quadratisch mal wieder… und irgendwie und überhaupt. Eine kleinere Karte steckt in der größeren und im Optimalfall gibt es eine Art Überraschung, wenn man sie aufklappt. Das ist meine erste (!) Kreation zu diesem Thema:

I was hoping for the forecast rains and thunderstorms to come – it would have felt more appropriate to spend most of the day in my apartment. Well… Anyway: what a cool thing over at ABC Christmas Challenge! I wasn’t really taken at first… a square again and then… everything somehow. A smaller card is tucked into a larger card and if all works well there is sort of a surprise when you open it. This is my first (!) creation for this challenge:

Und dann hatte es mich gepackt. Eine Idee an der anderen – wenn ich auch bislang erst eine weitere umgesetzt habe. Wäre ich etwas schneller gewesen, wäre sie auch noch gut Winter Wonderland untergekommen, wo es letzte Woche darum ging, das Thema „Geschenk“ zu verarbeiten. Geschenke trägt der Santa und es ist innen dann ein Geschenk für den Adressaten: ein Schneemann-Ornament.

And then I was hooked. One idea following the other – though I have only realized one more yet. Had I been a little faster on this I could also have entered it in last week’s challenge at Winter Wonderland where „present“ was supposed to be part of the creation. Santa is carrying presents and there’s an actual present for the recipient inside: a snowman ornament.

Und nun kommt doch tatsächlich auch noch die Sonne raus… dann werde ich wohl doch mal noch ein paar Schritte vor die Tür machen! Bis bald!
