Ich hatte mir das einfacher vorgestellt: in regelmäßigen Abständen einmal im Monat, so um den 28. rum, ein Foto vom Rhododendron-Rondell im Botanischen Garten zu machen. So warf ich mich am vergangenen Sonntag in die Regenfluten (naja, Nieselregen) auf’s Fahrrad und fuhr los – nur um festzustellen, dass der Botanische Garten im Winterhalbjahr sonntags geschlossen ist. Wunderbar. An Wochentagen hat er nur bis 16 Uhr auf – das ließ sich in dieser Woche auch nicht arrangieren.

I had imagined this to be easier: to take a picture of the rhododendrons at the Botanical Gardens at regular intervals, on or about the 28th of each month. So last Sunday I took my bike out in the driving rain (okay, light drizzle) – only to be informed upon arrival that in the winter season the gardens are closed on Sundays. Brilliant. On weekdays it closes at 4pm – it just couldn’t be done this week.

Heute jedoch war es soweit. In meiner bekannten Abneigung gegen Karneval habe ich heute frei genommen und war erfreut zu sehen, dass die Gärten wenigstens zwei Stunden geöffnet hatten. Ich kam voller Tatendrang an, ging gleich vor zum Rhododendron-Rondell, nahm die Kamera hoch, stellte sie an… und las im Display „No memory card“. Ich sage ja: nicht so einfach. Also wieder heim – kurzum, ich habe es noch geschafft, siehe oben. Am 3.3. gemacht, ist es das „Februar-Foto“ der Reihe. Im direkten Vergleich mit dem Januarfoto sieht man dann doch schon Fortschritte:

But today was the day. I had taken the day off in order not to participate in the carnival frenzy of the day and was happy to see that the Gardens were open for two hours at least. I got there and went right up to the rhododendrons, got out the camera, switched it on… and read „no memory card“ on the display. I’m telling you: it ain’t easy. So I went home again – and to make it short, I did manage to get my picture in the end, see above. It’s the „February picture“ of the series even if it was taken March 3. When you compare it directly to the one taken in January you can make out nature’s progress:

Es muss für mich ja eigentlich nicht ausgefallen sein, sondern einfach nur schön und/oder farbenfroh – eine Wiese Gänseblümchen kann ich mindestens so schön finden wie eine seltene Orchideenart. Aber die Blüten der Zaubernuss, über die ich am Fahrradständer gestolpert bin, fand ich schon faszinierend:

I’m not into extraordinary when it comes to plants and flowers, just beautiful and/or colorful is what it takes – a meadow covered in daisies can be just as nice as a rare variety of orchids. But a witch-hazel in bloom, that I stumbled upon near the bicycle racks really is fascinating:
