Der September war hektisch (und der Oktober hat Potenzial, sich genauso zu entwickeln, aber das verdränge ich noch gekonnt), aber gestern wurde neben dem Tag der Deutschen Einheit auch der World Card Making Day gefeiert. Und wie feiert man ihn besser, als mit dem Basteln von Karten? Gesundheitlich etwas angeschlagen hat es immerhin zu einer gereicht, die ich bei den Jingle Belles einstelle, deren laufende Challenge den Titel „The Hanukkah Song“ trägt – eine Karte, die entweder einen anderen „Winterfeiertag“ zum Thema hat oder einfach Winter. Das war zumindest der Plan – Schneemänner halt. Aber dass die Nikolausmützen tragen, Weihnachtsbäume schleppen und Candy Canes schlecken… okay, doch eindeutig Weihnachten – das fällt mir jetzt erst auf! Vielleicht ist das Hirn doch noch etwas umnebelt…

September was a hectic month (and October potentially has more of that in store but so far I’ve been good at blocking that thought). Yesterday wasn’t only German Unity Day but also World Card Making Day – and the best way to celebrate that is to make cards! I’ve been a little bit under the weather, though, but I managed one which I will enter over at the current Jingle Belles challenge „The Hanukkah Song“ – a card for another winter holiday or just a winter themed card. That was the plan – snowmen, right? But they’re wearing Santa hats, carrying Christmas trees and candy canes… okay, that is Christmas alright – and I notice it only now! Put it down to the meds 😉

Diesen Stempel von Tara Reed verwende ich jedes Jahr wieder und dieses Mal habe ich lange diverse Papiere hin- und hergeschoben und dann entschieden: nein. Nur das eine, das ist einfach zu schön, um verdeckt zu werden. Das Glitzern lässt mich selbst an diesem schönen Herbsttag an Schnee denken! So, und nun genießt euren Sonntag!

I’ve been using this stamp by Tara Reed for years and this time I’ve been moving different papers back and forth on the card and then decided: no. It will be just this one paper – it’s just too nice to be covered by others. The glitter makes me think of snow, even on such a beautiful fall day as this one! And now enjoy your Sunday!

Wieder mal längere Stille hier… hing zum Teil damit zusammen, dass ich nur Klopapier im Kopf hatte… im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. Vor einigen Wochen habe ich bei Nessa, die regelmäßig das Internet nach interessanten Dingen durchforstet, eine Idee gesehen, die mir sehr gut gefallen hat. Und kurz darauf habe ich eine Menge Kollegen darauf angesetzt, mir leere Klo- und Küchenpapierrollen mitzubringen. Ich habe sie bergeweise bekommen. Und erstmal zerschnitten.

Again it’s been silent here for a long time… partly because I had only toilet paper (rolls) on my mind. A few weeks ago, over at one of Nessa’s Saturday Shout-outs, I saw an idea I really loved. And soon I had a team of colleagues ready to collect whatever „empty“ rolls of toilet and kitchen paper they could get their hands on. I have heaps, now crowding my former dining room. And in a first step, I cut them up.

Da gibt’s so viele… aber man braucht auch so viele… die man dann erstmal von innen grün anmalt.

There are so many… but you need so many, too… and start by coloring the insides green.

Und im nächsten Schritt dann auch von außen.

The next step is to apply the paint to the outside, too.

Das dauert alles unerwartet ewig (ungefähr fünf Stunden pro Endprodukt), so dass ich zu diesem Zeitpunkt der Produktion leider bereits feststellen muss, dass meine erste Idee, das Endresultat zur diesjährigen Hospizaktion zu machen, leider verworfen werden musste. Ich müsste mindestens 30 Euro pro Stück nehmen… für leere Klopapierrollen… egal.

All this takes forever and a day (about five hours per finished product) so at this stage in the production already I had to scrap my idea of making it this year’s fundraiser for the hospice. I would have to ask for at least 30 Euros per piece… for empty toilet paper rolls… oh well.

Nun werden jeweils fünf zu einer Art Blüte zusammengefügt und aus den Blüten dann verschieden große Kränze gemacht… Wird die Spannung unerträglich?

Take five pieces and form a „blossom“ and then arrange those into wreaths of different sizes. Isn’t the suspense killing you?

Zwei Ringe aneinandergeklebt und mit strategisch platzierten Holzperlen versehen, dazu eine (verbesserungsfähige) Schleife und das Endergebnis ist fertig:

Glue together two wreaths and add red wooden pearls and a red ribbon (still practising!!) and this is the finished product:

Bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis und mache auch noch ein bisschen weiter… schließlich habe ich sieben Staffeln „Der Doktor und das liebe Vieh“ zu gucken, bevor am 18. November die 6. Staffel „Downton Abbey“ geliefert wird… 🙂 Habt ein schönes Wochenende!

I really like how it turned out and will work on a couple more… there are seven seasons „All Creatures Great and Small“ to watch after all, before I get the final season of „Downton Abbey“ in the mail November 18… 🙂 Have a great weekend!

Als ich die Challenge #169 bei Merry Monday sah, hellgrün, dunkelgrün und rot, fiel mir sofort dieses indische Papier ein. Und gefunden habe ich es auch, das ist das eigentlich erstaunliche! Weitere Inspiration fand ich auf Robyn’s Blog und so stelle ich die Karte auch bei den Jingle Belles und ihrer Special Delivery ein.

When I saw challenge #169 over at Merry Monday, Lt. green, Dk. Green & Red, I immediately remembered this paper from India. And I found it, too, which is the most amazing thing about it! I got further inspiration over at Robyn’s blog and so I get to enter it at the Jingle Belles‘ current challenge as well, Special Delivery.

Was für ein Wochenende. Wohnung geputzt. Einen ganzen Tag unterwegs. Und jetzt – kurz vor dem bügeln! – noch eine Weihnachtskarte. Man könnte sagen: es läuft. Motivation kam von den Jingle Belles, deren neueste Anregung Special Delivery! ist… alles, was irgendwie mit Post zu tun hat. Ich habe lange gebrütet und das ist daraus geworden:

What a weekend. Apartment cleaned. One whole day on the road. And now – with ironing still ahead! – a Christmas card. I’m on a roll. I started out with this fortnight’s prompt over at the Jingle Belles: Special Delivery! Anything postal. I was brooding over that a bit and this is the result:

Vorab: Origami macht mich wahnsinnig, aber diese Anleitung auf youtube hat ein brauchbares Ergebnis produziert (guckt nicht allzu genau hin!). Und ich bin ein bisschen verliebt in diesen Weihnachtsmann im Kimono; hinter ihm die aufgehende Sonne. Die Vintage Postkarte und auch die Papiere kommen aus Japan, meine Freundin Iko hat sie mir überlassen. Und habt ihr euch mal die Details der Briefmarke angesehen?

Just so you know: origami drives me crazy, but this youtube tutorial made me come up with a decent result (but don’t look too closely!). I have to say, though, that I have kinda fallen in love with this kimono-clad Santa; the rising sun in the background. The vintage postcard and the papers are from Japan; my friend Iko has given them to me a while ago. And have you noticed those cute details on the stamp?

Oioioi, hier wurde es wieder lange still – aber da kamen zwei Dinge zusammen: zum 3.8. musste ich wieder auf der Arbeit erscheinen und mein Vater war wegen einer Herzsache im Krankenhaus und ist jetzt in der Reha – soweit alles gut. Aber ich freue mich, noch bei der morgen endenden Challenge der Jingle Belles dabei zu sein, bei der man sich von diesem Foto inspirieren lassen sollte:

Oh dear, it’s been silent here for too long – but two things coincided: I had to go back to work August 3 and my Dad was hospitalized with a heart problem and has started rehab yesterday – but all is good up to now. I’m happy to participate at the current challenge over at the Jingle Belles that ends tomorrow. It asks to be inspired by the following phto:

Meine erste Reaktion war sowas wie „Ach Herrje…“ – was soll man damit anfangen? Aber dann wurde doch noch was draus und die eher ausgefallene Farbkombination (zugegebenermaßen etwas abgeschwächt) kam zum Einsatz:

„Eeek!!!“ was my reaction to this – what should I go for with this? But then things did fall into place and I went for the color combo (though admittedly, the turquoise (?) is softened a bit):

Und dann gab es auch noch Happy Mail – die schon vor über einer Woche ankam und den perfekten Tag traf, um ein bisschen Abwechslung zu bringen. Meine kreative Internetbekanntschaft Ros hat mich mit einer wunderbaren Karte, Bastelmaterialien und einer Tasche überrascht – vielen Dank!!

And then there was happy mail, too! It got here more than a week ago already and chose the perfect day to bring some sunshine. My creative friend Ros surprised me with one of her exquisite cards, additions to my craft supplies and a bag – thanks so much!!

Zwei Beiträge an einem Tag – das hat Seltenheitswert! Aber ich wollte unbedingt noch auf den allerletzten Drücker bei der laufenden Challenge der Jingle Belles dabei sein, An Old-Fashioned Christmas. Alles Vintage oder retro ist erlaubt, echt oder nachempfunden.

Two posts in one day – a very rare occurence! But I wanted to participate at the current challenge over at the Jingle belles, An Old-Fashioned Christmas. Anyting vintage or retro, original or vintage-in-style.

Und dann möchte ich auch gleich noch bei der Juli Technik Challenge bei 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown mitmachen: Embossing auf Pergament. Auf den Gedanken wäre ich nicht gekommen, aber ich finde den Effekt, gerade wenn es sich um Schneeflocken handelt, ganz bezaubernd! Und eine kleine Innendeko gibt es auch:

I would also like to enter it at the July Technique Challenge over at 52 {Christmas} Card Throwdown: embossing on vellum. I wouldn’t have thought of it but I really like the effect – especially when it comes to snowflakes. It’s right-down enchanting! And there’s also a bit of decoration inside:

Die Knöpfe sind ein bisschen eine Notlösung: es ist ungemein schwierig, Pergament zu fixieren, weil man den Kleber immer sieht. Jetzt aber nicht – da unter den Knöpfen. Tipps sind immer willkommen!

The buttons re a compromise, really: I find it very hard to fix/glue vellum because you always see the glue. But now it’s hidden – behind said buttons. If you can recommend a certain glue or something, I’d appreciate it!

Bei Bugaboo Stamps ist noch bis Monatsende alles 50% reduziert im Angebot… und ich habe mich dort etwas umgeschaut und das Pinguinmotiv dieser Karte gefunden.

Bugaboo Stamps offers 50% off the entire store until the end of the month so I had a look for more digis. Among a few others, I also chose the penguin motive of this card.

Und wie sich herausstellt, erfüllt die Karte die Voraussetzungen für gleich vier Challenges: Merry Monday möchte Herzen auf der Karte sehen (könnt ihr’s finden?!), Holly Jolly ist inspiriert von Weihnachtsliedern (bin ich das nicht immer? In diesem Fall: Joy to the World), bei CCAYR möchten sie Streifen und Punkte sehen (ich hoffe, ein Streifen reicht) und bei Sparkles Christmas Challenges geht es um Schleifenband, Spitze oder Kordel (hier fand silbernes Schleifenband Verwendung).

As luck would have it, the card qualifies for a total of four challenges: Merry Monday would like to see a heart included (can you find it ?!), Holly Jolly want us to be inspired by a Christmas carol (aren’t I always? In this case: Joy to the World), CCAYR is all about dots and stripes (I hope one stripe is sufficient to qualify) and then there’s Sparkles Christmas Challenges who would like to see ribbon, lace or twine included (there’s silver ribbon put to use here).
