Neutral Noel

Hm. Ich war kreativ. Irgendwie. Genauer gesagt habe ich mich eigentlich gequält mit der laufenden Challenge bei den JingleBelles: Neutral Noel. Ein Foto sollte als Inspiration dienen… ein schönes Foto:

Mmh. I’ve been creative. Sort of. To tell you the truth: it wasn’t exactly fun. But I wanted to participate in the current challenge over at the JingleBelles, Neutral Noel. It was a photo inspiration… a very nice picture:

Und ich habe viele schöne Kreationen gesehen. Aber ich kann einfach nicht wirklich mit farblos. Ich hätte auch einfach eines der Motive nehmen und weniger farblos sein können, aber irgendwie wollte ich es doch wissen. Jetzt weiß ich es.

And I’ve seen many beautiful creations. But I’m just not the neutral type I guess. I could have chosen a motive and worked with that, too, but I wanted to try. And so I did.

Bringen wir zum Abschluss noch etwas Farbe rein. Ein Florist werde ich auch nicht mehr, aber die Kreation gefällt mir doch ganz gut 😉

Let’s bring some color to this post. I’ll never be a florist either but I quite like this creation 😉

Creativa 2012


Ursprünglich wollte ich ja gleich gestern berichten. Ursrpünglich hatte ich auch vor, in der Nacht vor dem Besuch auf der Creativa in Dortmund nicht aufgeregt wie ein kleines Kind wachzuliegen. Ursprünglich hatte ich nicht damit gerechnet, dass wir ganze sechseinhalb Stunden durch die Hallen schlappen würden. Und ursprünglich bin ich die AKtion ganz schön naiv angegangen.

I had originally intended to report on my visit yesterday already, right after the fact. I had originally also intended to get a good night’s sleep before we went to Creativa – and not lie awake all night like a little child waiting for Christmas. I had originally not expected that we would be shuffling through the halls for six and a half hours. And originally I didn’t have a clue what I was getting myself into.

Das wird wohl eher ein Fotobeitrag. Nur soviel vorab: ich werde Bigggi ewig dankbar sein, dass sie mir den Tipp gab, nur eine begrenzte Menge Bargeld mitzunehmen und keine Karten. Es war zugegebenermaßen eine großzügige Menge. Aber ich hätte meine Urlaubskasse (65 Tage noch) extrem strapaziert.

This will probably be more of a photo post. One thing though: I will be forever grateful to Bigggi for suggesting that I should take a limited amount of cash and leave any ATM or credit cards at home. I admit it was a generous amount of cash I took with me. But hadn’t I followed that suggestion I would have strongly damaged my vacation account (65 days to go!).

Wie so oft habe ich mir gewünscht, ich könnte eine Nähmaschine professionell bedienen und wunderschöne Quilts bzw. Patchworkarbeiten herstellen.

As I have done numerous times before I wished that I was able to use a sewing machine anywhere near professional enough to make my own quilts or patchwork products.

Es gab mindestens 25 Workshops, die ich gerne mal ausprobiert hätte…

There were at least 25 workshops that I would have liked to try…

Wir haben die Weihnachtskugeln und Puppen strickenden Arne und Carlos aus Norwegen „getroffen“… Schade auch, dass die 2010 (?) gestarteten Socken immer noch in der Mache sind.

We have „met“ Arne and Carlos of Julekuler and Strikke Dukker fame… Too bad the socks I started in 2010 (?) are still in the making.

Ich habe mal wieder die wunderschönen afghanischen Stickarbeiten bewundern können, die ich gerne in ein Patchwork-Kunstwerk eingearbeitet sehen würde. Freiwillige?

I got another chance to admire the Afghan embroideries that I would love to see as part of a larger patchwork masterpiece one day. Anyone?

Dann haben wir uns noch einen wichtigen Termin gemerkt.

Then we made sure to jot down an important date.

Und jetzt würde ich mich gerne ungefähr 4 Monate in meiner Bastelecke vergraben, Franco kann die Pizza liefern.

And now I’d just like to stay in my creative nook for about 4 months – Franco can deliver the pizza.

Mehr! / More!


Jetzt geht alles sehr schnell – heute war ja eher Sommer als Frühling… mit 20 Grad, dem ersten Sonnenbrand auf der Nase und dem ersten Spaghetti-Eis der Saison.

Time’s just zooming by – today it was more like summer than spring… with 20°C/70°F, the first sunburned nose and the first spaghetti ice-cream of the season.

Alle waren unterwegs und ich konnte mich sogar aufraffen, mit dem Fahrrad ins Büro zu fahren. Gaaaaaaanz langsam. Die Rückfahrt war dann die erwartete Belohnung. Und trotz des schönen Wetters entgeht mir nicht, dass es nur noch 284 Tage bis Weihnachten sind und ich habe mich mal bei der laufenden ABC Christmas Challenge umgetan. Da heißt es E- for Evergreen. Weihnachtliches Grünzeug ist auf der Karte unterzubringen.

Everybody was out and about and luckily I needed only little persuasion to take the bike to work this morning. Sloooooooowly. The return was the expected reward. And despite the wonderful weather I couldn’t help but notice that there are only 284 days to go until Christmas and checked out ABC Christmas Challenge’s E – for Evergreen. Christmas greenery is to be inlcuded.

Habt ein schönes Wochenende… ich bin am Sonntag zum ersten Mal auf der Creativa in Dortmund und schon sehr gespannt!

A Christmas Scene

Es musste etwas geschehen. Am Donnerstag schrie ich mit Adele in der Küche rum, so dass ich schon dachte, ich werde rausgeschmissen. Dabei war es gut geplant: unter und über mir je ein Badezimmer. Freitag dann der irre Entschluss, die Nachbarn zu schonen und mit Kopfhörern zu hören… und natürlich trotzdem mitzusingen. Ich sag nur Pretty Woman. Ohne Badeschaum. Aber es hat geholfen: der kreative Output läuft. Neben unterstützenden Maßnahmen für den Osterhasen gibt es schon zwei Karten zur Geburt… und eine Weihnachtskarte.

Something had to happen. I was screeching along with Adele in my kitchen on Thursday – it was loud enough to fear an eviction. Even though I did have a plan: there’s bathrooms above and underneath my kitchen so chances were people wouldn’t be too closely affected. Then on Friday the ill-advised decision to use headphones to give the neighbors a break. Pretty Woman is all I’m saying. Without the foam. But it worked: my creative output is humming. There were supporting measures for the Easter bunny and two cards for new babies… and a Christmas card.

Ein Sonntag / A Sunday

Gestern war mir plötzlich danach, den Frühling einzuläuten. Noch kann ich mich vom Tragen von T-Shirts abhalten, aber wenn die Wettervorhersage für Donnerstag mit bis zu 17°C korrekt ist, wird das eine harte Woche. Aber so würde mich die nun seit Wochen im Ausbruch befindliche Erkältung vielleicht endlich platt kriegen und gut wär’s.

It was suddenly time to start spring yesterday. I still manage to refrain from wearing t-shirts but if the forecast for Thursday is correct and we will actually have up to 17°C, it’s going to be a tough week. But this way maybe I’d manage to let this cold get the better of me that has been trying to come out for weeks.

Ich bin nicht ganz sicher, ob meine aktuelle Kreation die Vorgaben der 8. Challenge der UnstampaBelles erfüllt, es geht um Recycling. Recycled ist hier das Band und die Kreise – die sind aus einem alten Passepartout ausgestanzt. Eine Papierperle habe ich nicht integriert, aber die wäre ja nur Bonus gewesen…

I’m not quite sure whether my most recent creation fits the requirements of the 8th challenge at the UnstampaBelles – which is about recycling. The ribbon is recycled as are the brown circles which were punched out of an old passepartout. And I did not include a paper bead but then this was a bonus option anyway.

Man könnte sagen, dieser Eintrag ist in etwa so chaotisch wie mein Basteltisch, aber dieses Thema muss auch noch angeschnitten werden. Vor einigen Tagen fand ich im Briefkasten, was meine Bastelgenossin Ros als „Happy Mail“ bezeichnen würde – Post über die man sich besonders freut. Da hat jemand die Einträge ganz genau gelesen und mir eine ganz große Freude gemacht.

It’s safe to say that this entry is about as chaotic as my creative nook but I have to mention this as well. A few days ago I received what my fellow crafter Ros would call happy mail – mail that makes your day. Somebody had been closely following my entries and did make day.

Anything goes!

Die Sparkles Christmas Challenge feiert im Februar ihren ersten Geburtstag – Glückwunsch! – mit dem üblichen Wettbewerb und einem sog. Blog Hop, also ein Bloghüpfen, wo man sich die Kreationen der Design Team Mitglieder bei Sparkles ansieht und kommentiert. Da habe ich noch einiges vor mir, aber hier schonmal die Karte nach dem Motto „Anything goes!“

Herzen / Hearts

Eigentlich wollte ich nur den Basteltisch aufräumen und fing an, die Motive, die auf einer Weihnachtskarte waren, auszuschneiden… und ziemlich schnell kam mir eine Idee, wie man sie verwenden könnte. Erst im Nachhinein habe ich bemerkt, dass sie die Voraussetzung für die Teilnahme an der Februar Challenge bei CCAYR erfüllen. Es müssen 5 Stück und Herzen drauf sein.

I had actually only wanted to clear my creative nook and started to cut out the images on a Christmas card I had received… and pretty soon I had an idea of how to use them. It was only afterwards that I noticed that they meet the requirement of the February challenge at CCAYR. There need to be five of them and they need to have hearts on them.

Ja, dass es fünf geworden sind, kann man klar erkennen. Aber findet man die Herzen?

Yes, you can clearly tell that there are five on them. But can you find the hearts?

Ich gebe zu, das Herzthema ist etwas subtil geraten, aber sie sind da, auf allen fünfen:

Ich liege verdammt gut im Rennen mit den mindestens 120 Karten, die ich im Dezember brauche 😉

I’m pretty well placed going for at least 120 cards I need in December 😉

Genau richtig / Just right

Es war so ein Tag, an dem ich schon nicht aufstehen wollte, was sich dann im Nachhinein „auf der Arbeit“ als weiser Entschluss herausgestellt hat – wenn ich ihn denn gefasst hätte. Ich war dabei, mich auf den Badminton-Platz zu zwingen und nach ein bisschen Surfen auf der Couch gehe ich nun plötzlich auf Wolken. Ich habe gewonnen!

It’s been one of those days… I hadn’t wanted to get up this morning and with hindsight I shouldn’t have after a few bad news I received at the office today. After dinner I was getting ready to force myself onto the badminton court and after a few minutes of browsing the internet I suddenly walk on clouds. I’ve won!

Die gemütlichen Socken waren es, die mich bei der Sparkles Christmas Challenge zum Sieg getragen haben 😉 Und nun auf zum Sieg in der Haribohalle, ja!

It was the cozy Christmas entry that won the challenge over at Sparkles Christmas Challenge! And now on to victory on the court, yes!

Auf einmal ist alles wieder im Lot und morgen ist ja auch schon wieder Mittwoch. Freebie nicht vergessen!

Ziel / Goal: 20 Followers

Als ich am Donnerstag den Schein der Tippgemeinschaft nach dem 11 Mio Jackpot überprüfen ließ, erschienen auf dem Bildschirm die Worte : „Es liegt kein Gewinn vor.“ Der mürrische Mann in der Annahmestelle hielt mir ungeduldig die Quittung hin und sagte, ohne eine Miene zu verziehen im Ton eines Lagerkommandanten: „Weiter arbeiten!“

Last Thursday I had the numbers of our betting pool checked for the 11m euro jackpot. The screen put it bluntly: „No winnings.“ The grumpy man at the lottery counter impatiently gave me the receipt and then, without batting an eyelid, ordered me: „Back to work!“

Und das habe ich dann auch gemacht und (u.a.) die restlichen Kalendergeschenktüten fertig gemacht.Da greife ich dann mal den Kommentar von Martina auf, dass das doch nach einen Freebie schreit. Okay, okay! Ich gebe zwei Tüten als Freebie raus, eine schmale (6cm tief) und eine breite (10cm tief). Aber es soll nicht so einfach sein. Wer sie gewinnen möchte, muss ein Follower dieses Blogs werden UND einen Kommentar hinterlassen, ob und wenn ja: wie er/sie an Weiberdonnerstag aktiv werden wird.

I obediently followed that order and, among other things, sat down to finish the rest of the calendar gift bags. So let me get back to Martina’s comment that those gift bags spell out blog candy. Alright! I’m giving away two bags as blog candy – a thin one (6cm) and a wide one (10cm). Swirls and Pearls…

Ich habe allergrößte Schwierigkeiten, Hochzeitskarten zu gestalten. Das geht meistens GAR NICHT. Bei Winter Wonderland ist die Herausforderung diese Woche „Swirls and Pearls“… und da man erst ab Februar Weihnachtskarten einreichen muss, dachte ich, man kann es ja mal versuchen. Motiviert hat mich eine Briefmarke, die den Umschlag eines Briefs aus Japan zierte, den ich kürzlich erhalten habe. (Danke, Yumiko!)

I have the hardest time creating wedding cards. It usually doesn’t work AT ALL. This week’s challenge at Winter Wonderland is „Swirls and Pearls“… and as a Christmas theme is mandatory from February onwards only I thought I’d give it a try. I was motivated by a stamp I recently received on an envelope from Japan. (Thanks, Yumiko!)

Ist die nicht total cool? Womit wir wieder bei der Frage wären, warum viele Briefmarken in Deutschland so altbacken, seriös und langweilig sind. Wie auch immer, Perlen gibt es auch dazu:

Isn’t it cool? And again there’s the question why many German stamps are so decidedly dowdy, serious and boring. Anyway, I added pearls as well:

Und nun das Objekt in der Gesamtschau… es überzeugt mich nicht 100%ig, hat aber ein Niveau erreicht, dass ich sie auch tatsächlich versenden werde… im Gegensatz zu einigen ihrer Vorgänger.

And now for a look at the whole creation… I’m not 100% positive about it but at least it has reached a level where I will actually send it… which I didn’t do with some of the earlier creations.
