Als Our Beautiful World Anfang des Monats zu Fotos mit dem Titel „November“ aufrief, wusste ich sofort, was ich da einstellen wollte. Aber ich habe es zeitlich nicht geschafft. Doch auch in diesem Jahr möchte ich euch die Eindrücke vom Martinszug in Dottendorf nicht vorenthalten. Ich hatte Kollegen/Freunde aus Benin und Zimbabwe dabei – und kam so zu ganz neuen Einblicken.

When Our Beautiful World asked to post pictures with the motto „November“ at the beginning of the month, I knew immediately what it meant to me. But I didn’t manage to get the post up in time. But I want to give you some impressions from this year’s St. Martin’s Parade in Dottendorf again. I was joined by colleagues/friends from Benin and Zimbabwe and so ended up getting a whole new perspective on some aspects of it.

Es war dieses Jahr etwas schwierig, Laternen zu fotografieren, da die allermeisten wegen des Regens in Plastiktüten verpackt waren. Aber es waren wieder viele interessante Kreationen dabei. Die in der Mitte unten hat mich besonders fasziniert. Sie hatte auf vier Seiten Metallfolie und es waren Bonner Motive (Altes Rathaus, Münster u.a.) „durchgestochen“. Soviel Arbeit!

It was a bit tricky to take pictures of the lanterns this year as most of them were wrapped in plastic bags due to the rain. But there were many interesting creations again. I found the one in the middle below particularly fascinating. It had foil on all four sides and featured sights of Bonn (Old Townhall, Cathedral etc.) – by using a needle to pierce along the outlines. So much work!

Das große Feuer am Ende hat meine Begleiter fasziniert, so mitten in der Stadt. Das sei zuhause unmöglich – man könnte ja für den Fall der Fälle gar nicht sicherstellen, dass (genug) Wasser zum Löschen da sei. In letzten Jahr hatte ich ja noch eine eigene Laterne gebastelt. Da war dieses Jahr kein Denken dran. Aber immerhin hat es zu einer Art „Laternenkarte“ gereicht, wohl inspiriert vom Rügen-Urlaub im Oktober…

The big fire at the end rather fascinated my friends for being smack in the middle of the city. No way this would be feasible at home – there just was no way to ensure enough water was around in case things got out of hand. Last year I managed to make my own lantern but that was out of the question this year. But I did manage to make a kind of „lantern card“, a little ispired from my Rügen vacation in Ocotber…
