This post will be picture heavy. And it’s almost exclusively about roses. And bugs. And a new experiment.

Es war ein wunderbares Wochenende in der Eifel. Und endlich blüht alles halbwegs so, wie man sich das an grauen Wintertagen vorgestellt hat. Aus den Fenstern sieht man nichts mehr, so groß sind die Geranien geworden.

It was a gorgeous weekend in the Eifel. And finally everything is in bloom, just as we’ve imagined on those bleak winter days. You can’t see out of the windows anymore for the geraniums.

Aber was ist das in den Geranien? Ein Schmetterling vorm Schlüpfen? Der Rest von einer Puppe? Oder ein Schmetterling, der einer Spinne zum Opfer gefallen ist?

But what is this in the geraniums? A butterfly ready to eclose (is that the word?)? What’s left of a cocoon? Or a butterfly that fell prey to a spider?

Von dieser riesigen Rose kann ich nicht genug bekommen…

Hat irgendwer schonmal diese Alien-Käfer gesehen und muss ich aktiv werden? Noch haben sie den Geranien keinen Schaden zugefügt – aber sie sind verdammt zahlreich.

Has anybody ever seen these alien bugs before? Know what they are and whether I need to act? They haven’t hurt the geraniums yet – but there are quite a few of them.

Das ist das Experiment. Wir haben den Inhalt von vier Blumenkästen, voller Narzissen-, Tulpen-, Hyazinthen- und Krokusknollen auf einen Haufen im Garten gekippt, in Ei-Form umrandet und hoffen auf ein entsprechendes Blumenmeer pünktlich zu Ostern 2014. Oder überhaupt irgendwann.

This is the new experiment. We dumped the contents of four flower boxes full of daffodil, tulip, hyacinth and crocus bulbs on a heap, framed it in the shape of an egg and hope for a correspondent sea of blossoms right in time for Easter 2014. Or anytime, for that matter.
