Shake it, baby!


Die Bastelecke brummt (und sieht auch so aus)! Und auf eine Shaker-Karte hatte ich schon lange Lust – und bei der Technik Challenge bei Christmas Card Throwdown geht es im April genau darum. Ich habe nicht lange gezögert. Dazu hat die Karte subtilen Blumenschmuck, so dass ich sie auch noch bei CCAYR einstellen werde, denn da sind sie gefragt, die Blumen.

My creative nook is buzzing – and looks like it! I’d been thinking about shaker cards for a while – and April’s technique challenge over at Christmas Card Throwdown is about just that. I didn’t think twice. In addition to that, the card has very subtle flower decorations so I will enter it over at CCAYR’s april flower challenge as well.

When you use two acetat layers as I did, you need to work on the inside as well…

Niedlich / Cute


Ostermontag war der bisherige kreative Höhepunkt des Jahres – und ein Großteil der Ausbeute wartet ja noch auf Veröffentlichung. Bei Winter Wonderland sollen die Karten dieser Tage „cute“ sein, also niedlich. Passt, würde ich sagen:

It’s safe to say that Easter Monday was my creative peak so far in 2017 – and the majority still needs publication. Winter Wonderland currently asks for cute cards… and I think this one qualifies:

Ein bisschen inspiriert ist sie von der abgelaufenen Sketch-Challenge bei den Jingle Belles, genauer gesagt von Stephanie Severins Kreation. Die kann man sich hier ansehen. Ich war derweil einmal gut dabei und habe gleich drei leicht unterschiedliche gemacht – und auch noch eine kleine Verzierung innen untergebracht.

I was inspired by the last sketch challenge of the Jingle Belles that I couldn’t make time for in time to participate. And the inspiration really came from Stephanie Severin’s card, which you can have a look at here. Once I was at it, I made three similar ones – and added a little something on the inside as well.

Morgen ist schon Mittwoch – so eine feiertagsverkürzte Arbeitswoche ist rein psychologisch Gold wert! Auf bald!

Tomorrow is Wednesday already – and as Easter Monday was a holiday in Germany, the shorter work week really keeps spirits high! Take care!

Earth Day


Einen vollen Feiertag hatte ich zur freien Verfügung in Bonn. Kalt war’s draußen, größtenteils nass. Ich habe stundenlang gebastelt. Einen ganzen Berg Geburtstagskarten… Sicher! Wen konnte ich denn mit der Aussage auf die falsche Spur bringen?! Weihnachtskarten waren es, 15 Stück! Der totale Rausch. Was für eine Befreiung. Die Challenge bei den Jingle Belles hat den am 22. April 2017 stattfindenden Earth Day zum Thema. In diesem Sinne soll recycelt werden.

I had a full holiday at my disposal in Bonn. It was cold outside and mainly wet. I crafted for hours on end. A huge stash of birthday cards… Right! Who can I fool?! They were Christmas cards, 15 of them! Total madness. It was liberating. The current challenge over at the Jingle Belles is Peace on Earth (Day). In celebration of the same (actually on April 22) we are to re-cycle, up-cycle, re-use.

Der Hintergrund ist Seite 122 des Diercke Weltatlas von 1970. Die Weltkugel ist von einer Weihnachtskarte, die Geschäftspartner 2012 geschickt haben. Das rote Geschenkband ist sicher von irgendeiner Pralinenschachtel… und die kleinen Sternchen sind eigentlich ausgestanzte Reste einer Bordüre.

The background is made from page 122 of the 1970 Diercke map book. The globe is from a Christmas card that business partners sent in 2012. The red ribbon is probably from some box of chocolates… and the tiny stars are actually the leftovers from a border die.

Aber damit war ja, wie erwähnt, noch nicht Schluss. Die Erde aus dem All betrachtet hatte ich nochmal und habe was ganz anderes damit angestellt:

But that was not all. I had a second one of this 2012 Christmas card and had another go at it:

Das verwendete Geschenkband ist auch wieder recycelt. Keine Ahnung, wo es herkommt. Einmal in diesem „Erde von oben“-Thema drin, habe ich auch noch ein Buch von Aufnahmen aus dem Weltall attackiert, das mir Freunde genau zu diesem Zweck vermacht haben:

The ribbon I used was also recycelt. No clue where it came from. And then I was somehow hooked on the „Earth from Space“ theme and attacked a coffee-table book with photographs taken from space. Friends had given it to me to craft with:

Also habe ich wohl drei Karten für die Jingle Belles! Und bei der ABC Christmas Challenge geht es um H – is for Home. Ich vermute mal, das war eigentlich anders gedacht, aber die Erde ist ja unbestreitbar unser Zuhause, also werde ich sie auch dort in die Challenge geben. Naja – und in den kommenden Tagen kommt dann mehr von hier! Bis dann.

So I actually have three cards to enter over at the Jingle Belles‘! I will also enter them over at ABC Christmas Challenges: H – is for Home. I guess it was intended a little differently but then the earth is our home, right? Okay – and I’ll be back with more later this week! Stay tuned.

Marmoriert / Marbled

Guckt euch mal meinen Blumenkasten an! Wenn’s nach dem ginge, dann wäre der Frühling schon da… wenn die mal nicht noch einen drüber kriegen! Aber der Frühling gibt wirklich alles, um auch ja den letzten Rest Winter bzw. Weihnachten aus meinen Blumenkästen zu schmeißen:

Take a look at my flower box! If it were up to it, spring had already made it… I hope they’ll survive any more frost that may still be headed our way! But let me tell you: spring does all in its might to throw out the last traces of winter (or Christmas?):

Ein bisschen basteln war auch wieder drin. Und das auch noch mit einer neuen Technik… Marianne brachte mich drauf: marmorieren mit Rasierschaum. Hä? Das jedenfalls habe ich so ungefähr gedacht und das mal gegoogelt. Man kann die verschiedensten Farben verwenden, aber da ich gerade in der Küche stand und nebenher versucht habe, Abendessen zu machen, lagen die Lebensmittelfarben am nächsten!

Again, I could squeeze in a moment or two in my creative nook. And even try out a new (to me) technique… Marianne used it some time ago: marbling with shaving foam. What? That’s how I reacted at least and started googling. You can use all kinds of colors but as I was in the kitchen and trying to get dinner ready at the same time, somehow food colors were easiest to get a hold of.

Beim ersten Ergebnis (oben) war ich noch ein bisschen zu ungeduldig und habe vor dem Abziehen nicht lange genug gewartet, aber es wurde dann besser, so dass ich u.a. das Papier für die neueste Weihnachtskarte gemacht habe:

The first result (above) was not exactly perfect because I was too impatient and took off the foam too soon but I improved so I made some paper that was usable for the latest Christmas card:

Auch hier muss ich sagen, dass mich das Papier und die Marmorierung erst nicht wirklich überzeugt haben, aber nachdem ich die Sterne ausgeschnitten und mir den Rest überlegt hatte, war ich doch ganz angetan. Ich stelle sie ein bei der No Squares Allowed Challenge bei Crimbo Crackers.

I have to say that even with this panel I wasn’t sure I liked the marbling but when I had cut out the stars and thought about a layout I came to really like the end result. I enter it over at Crimbo Cracker’s current No Squares Allowed challenge.

It came upon a midnight… clear

Ommmmmmmmmm… zum basteln reicht es immerhin zumindest hier und da mal wieder, zu viel Text noch nicht. Aber das wird auch noch werden im Laufe des Jahres. Wie auch immer: die Jingle Belles haben das Thema im Titel geschaffen und rufen dementsprechend zu Projekten mit durchsichtigen Teilen auf.

Ommmmmmmmmmm… I do manage to squeeze in some crafty time here and there but then nothing is left for a lot of prose. But I’m optimistic that this, too, will change during the course of the year. Anyhow, the Jingle Belles came up with the title of this post, asking for projects to include transparent bits.

Ich habe mich noch etwas zurückgehalten, aber auch ein kleines Stück Vellum ist transparent 🙂 Schade, dass ich nicht auch noch eine „Christmas Candy“ Challenge aufgetan habe – bei diesen Papieren! Der Baum ist noch aus der Tea-Bag-Fold-Phase letztes Jahr – wurde nur nie verbaut. Bei ABC Christmas Challenge heißt es derzeit (u.a.) „D – is for Dimension“. Und so ein bisschen 3D sind die Bäume ja schon geraten. Also stelle ich sie auch hier ein. Außerdem möchte ich sie bei der Anything Goes Challenge bei Winter Wonderland einstellen. Die läuft in Gedenken an Eigentümerin und Koordinatorin Eileen, die leider im Januar verstorben ist. Danke für viele wunderbare Inspirationen.

There’s not a whole lot of see-thru elements here but a tiny piece of vellum is vellum nonetheless 🙂 Looking at the papers I used it’s a shame I haven’t been able to find a Christmas Candy challenge! The tree was made last year when I was having a tea bag fold phase – but never taken further. ABC Christmas Challenge is currently asking for Dimension on our cards so I enter it there as well. Last but decidedly not least I will enter it at Winter Wonderland, who are currently hosting a tribute challenge („Anything Goes“) remembering Eileen, owner and coordinator of their blog who sadly passed away in January. Thank you for many, many wonderful inspirations.

Schnee ist gefragt / Snow is in demand

Nachdem ich gestern alle Zutaten zum Bau eines Karnevalskostüms besorgt hatte, wird es dieses Jahr nun doch nichts werden damit: die Einkäufe stehen gesammelt in der Ecke rum und alles, was ich machen wollte, war Weihnachtskarten basteln. Ich habe dem nachgegeben. Und es fühlte sich gut an.

I went out yesterday and bought all the ingredients needed to build (!) the carnival costume I had in mind – and then finally decided it was not going to come into being after all: I put the purchases down and then all I wanted to do was make a Christmas card. So I gave in. And it felt great.

Ich war inspiriert von Marianne of Marianne’s cards ’n stuff, die mich mit dieser Kreation schon vor knapp zwei Wochen auf den Gedanken brachte. Sie hat mich übrigens auf viele Gedanken gebracht – es bleibt anzuwarten, wie viele davon ich umsetzen kann. Die zweite Inspiration war das Geschenkpapier, das hier recycelt den Hintergrund gibt.

I was inspired by Marianne of Marianne’s cards ’n stuff fame. She made this card a couple of weeks ago… I guess you can see what I mean. She inspired quite a few thoughts by the way – we’ll have to see how many of them I will be able to turn into cards. The second inspiration was the recycled pieces of wrapping paper that I used for the background.

Es sieht so aus, als könnte ich damit diverse Challenges bedienen… entweder liegt da überall Schnee oder es ist eher wie bei mir, dass der Wunsch nach Schnee Vater des Gedankens ist:

Irgendwie… befreiend / Somehow… liberating

Der Januar ist so gut wie um… die Bastelecke ist aufgeräumt (sicher nur eine Momentaufnahme) – und ich habe es geschafft, die erste Weihnachtskarte 2017 zu kreieren. Das Motiv mit dem Rentier und den Kreisen ist 2015 schon mal aufgetaucht (hier) – aber hier ist das Design 2017:

We’ve almost reached the end of Jnauary already… my creative nook is shipshape (certainly only a snap-shot) – and I have finally managed to create the first Christmas card in 2017. The motif with the reindeer and the circles was already en vogue in 2015 (here) – but this is the 2017 take on the theme:

Auf den gewohnten Challenge-Seiten habe ich mich natürlich auch umgetan und stelle sie ein bei ABC Christmas Challenge, die zum ersten Mal zu zwei Themen gleichzeitig ausschreiben „A is for Anything Goes“ und „B is for Something Beginning with a B“. Und bei Sparkles Christmas Challenges und dem Motto „Lots of Glitter“ passt es auch – sieht man den Glitter auf zwei Kreisen und dem Geweih hier besser?

Of course I’ve also been browsing my usual suspects of craft blogs and will enter it over at ABC Christmas Challenge who are for the first time ever asking for entries for two themes in one post: „A is for Anything Goes“ and „B is for Something Beginning with a B“… like baubles. Over at Sparkles Christmas Challenges the challenge is „Lots of Glitter“ – can you see the glitter in two baubles and on the antlers?

Vertical

Es war schon vor einiger Zeit Thema: ich habe wohl eine Baumphase… es sieht nicht so aus, als käme zurzeit was anderes aus meiner kreativen Werkstatt. Aber diese Karte ist für die aktuelle Challenge bei ABC Christmas Challenges, „V for Vertical“ – also ein vertikales Element ist gefragt.

I said it a few posts back already: I seem to be in a tree phase… it doesn’t look as if anything other than trees came out of my creative nook these days. But this card is perfect for the current challenge over at ABC Christmas Challenges, „V for Vertical“ – featuring a vertical element, that is.

Schottenkaro / Plaid

In ein paar Stunden endet die Challenge bei Merry Monday, „Plaid“ – also Schottenkaro. Ich wusste zwar, was es war… musste aber das deutsche Wort nachgucken. Bei mir gibt es mal einen nichtgrünen Weihnachtsbaum und ich lasse es raus: dieses Jahr ist der Baum im teabag fold das Motiv der Wahl bei mir. Die Zeit verpufft (62 Tage noch bis Weihnachten!) und ich komme nicht annähernd oft genug in die Bastelecke.

This week’s challenge over at Merry Monday – Plaid – ends in a few hours so I decided to quickly post this. I have moved away from green when it comes to Christmas trees but the tea bag folded Christmas trees have turned out to be the motif of choice this year. I just don’t get to craft nearly as much as I would like and need to to keep my sanity (and it’s only 62 days to go until Christmas!).

Mein zweiter Beitrag bei ABC Christmas Challenges („U is for Under the Pile“) wird das auch, denn die Schneeflocken-Brads lungern schon seit deutlich mehr als einem Jahr bei mir rum. Ins Wochenende bin ich übriegns mit der Nachricht gestartet, dass es die Ornament-Karte bei Holly Jolly in die Top Three geschafft hat 🙂 Zum entsprechenden Ausklang des Wochenendes nun noch ein bisschen in die Bastelecke – macht’s gut!

This will also be my second entry at ABC Christmas Challenges (U is for Under the Pile) as these snowflake brads I’ve used have been sitting around here for a lot longer than one year. And by the way: I started off into the weekend realizing I had made top three at the ornament challenge over at Holly Jolly – it made my day! And to bring this weekend to a good end, too, I’m now off to my creative nook for a bit! Take care!

Das ist ein Weihnachtsbaum! / That’s a Christmas Tree!

Heute habe ich mich spontan kurz in der Stadt mit einem Freund und seinen beiden Kindern getroffen. Den größten Spaß hatte ich mit seiner bald dreijährigen Tochter, mit der ich in einem Kaufhaus die Rolltreppen rauf und runter gefahren bin. Und auf der Rolltreppe ins Erdgeschoss kamen wir immer auf einen Weihnachtsbaum zu – und jedes Mal die faszinierten Blicke und die Frage, ob man von den Christbaumkugeln welche mitnehmen kann. Das Kind entwickelt sich in die richtige Richtung!

On the spur of the moment, I met briefly with a friend and his two kids in the city center today. I had the greatest time riding the escalators in one of the department stores with his soon-to-be 3 year-old daughter – she had a blast! And every time we were on the one down to the ground floor, we were riding towards a Christmas tree – and every time she was in awe and wondered whether we could take some of the ornaments. Oh, I love her!

Das hat mich dann an die Challenge bei Holly Jolly erinnert, wo es um ornaments, also Christbaumkugeln, geht. Gewagte Farben auf dieser Kugel, aber irgendwie finde ich, es funktioniert.

That reminded me of the current challenge over at Holly Jolly, Ornaments. It’s quite a racy color combo on this ready made bauble but somehow I think it works.
