Es kommt mir vor, als hätte ich das wenige „Vintage-fähige“ Material, das ich besitze, einzig und allein für die alljährliche Challenge zu diesem Thema bei den Jingle Belles, dieses Jahr unter dem Titel „Spirits of Christmas Past“. Es wurde eine lange Nacht…

Sometimes I think that whatever little supplies I have that could be used to create vitage-style cards only ever gets taken out once a year: for the annual vintage challenge over at the Jingle Belles, this year called „Spirits of Christmas Past“. It was a long night…

Einmal dabei, habe ich noch ein zweites Exemplar gemacht – und die Reste des Spruchbands innen verwertet:

Weil sie so schön passen, stelle ich sie auch bei ABC Christmas Challenge ein, wo es heißt: „People, Quick and/or Red“. Und euch nun einen schönen Restsonntag!

Mehr Weihnachten / More Christmas


Offenbar gerate ich in Fahrt beim Summer Link-up von Merry Monday, wo noch bis Monatsende praktisch alles geht. Ich habe mich von der Challenge #236 „Stockings“ inspirieren lassen und gleichzeitig auch noch eine Stickarbeit von Pauline aus England wiederverwertet.

It seems I’m on a roll with the summer link-up over at Merry Monday’s, where practically anything goes until the end of the month. This time I got inspiration from challenge #236 „Stockings“ and at the same time managed to recycle one of Pauline’s wonderful embroideries from England.

(Keine) Sommerpause / (No) summer break


Bei Merry Monday ist Sommerpause und man kann sich bis Ende des Monats einfach eins der abgelaufenen Themen aussuchen und loslegen. Ich habe mich für #241 aus dem März entschieden, „Rot, grün und weiß“. Lag ein bisschen daran, dass ich die Santas noch von einem Projekt im vergangenen Jahr übrig hatte. Und so kam es dann auch zu mehreren Versionen…

Over at Merry Monday they’re still celebrating Christmas in July – up until the end of August you can choose from previous challenges. I went for #241 from March 2017, „Red, green and white“. The choice was a little influenced by the fact that I still had these Santas lying around from a project I did last year. And so there were different versions of it…

Von Katzen und Blumen / Of Cats and Flowers


Heute habe ich mich – endlich – mal an eine lange schon anstehende Auftragsarbeit gemacht: „Meine Tante mag Katzen und Blumen“ war der Hinweis. Ich hoffe, sie mag auch diese Karte 🙂 Eine passende Challenge gibt es auch bei Seize The Birthday, so ich sie in den Wettbewerb gebe.

Today I finally sat down to make a card a friend had ordered long ago: „My aunt likes cats and flowers“ was what I had to go by. I hope she likes this card, too 🙂 I will enter it at Seize The Birthday, where anything goes.

Neu und Alt / New and Old


Ewig ist’s her, dass ich was gebastelt habe… und nun gibt es eine farblich mal etwas andere Weihnachtskarte zu präsentieren, die neue und alte Elemente enthält: neu sind das Rentier und das rosafarbene Papier. Alt und recycelt das Geschenkband mit den goldenen Sternen – das war letztes Jahr Teil eines Weihnachtsgeschenks, das ich bekommen habe.

It seems like months have passed since I last created something… and now it’s a Christmas card of a slightly unusual color combo which features new and old elements: the reindeer and the pink paper are new whereas the ribbon with the gold stars is old and recycled – it was part of a Christmas present I received last year.

Bei der ABC Christmas Challenge geht es in diesem Monat genau darum: „N is for New & O is for Old“. Und bei Cute Card Thursday heißt es „Ribbons / Bows“ – ich bin also bei beiden dabei!

The current challenge over at ABC Christmas Challenges is about both: „N is for New & O is for Old“. And Cute Card Thursday asks for „Ribbons / Bows“ – so I’ll enter the card into both challenges!

„Old News“ muss ich aber auch noch loswerden: dieser Shaker wurde mit einem Honorable Mention bei Christmas Card Throwdown geehrt… schon im Mai.

I have to give you some „old news“, too: this shaker card received an Honorable Mention over at Christmas Card Throwdown… back in May already.

Ein letztes Mal… | One last time…


Es gab immer noch fertig gefaltete Bäume im Tea Bag fold… aber mit dieser Karte ist nun doch alles aufgebraucht. Ich stelle die Karte ein bei CCAYR, wo es im Mai um Niederschlag in jedweder Form geht. Wenn hier der Regen dem Ende entgegengeht, werde ich mich so langsam dann doch freuen!

There were still tea bag fold trees that I had made last year and never used for anything… but with this card, they have all been used. I enter this card into the May Challenge over at CCAYR that is all about precipitation. By now, I am lookig forward to the rain to stop over here…

Weisheiten Ostasiens | East Asian Words of Wisdom


Bei der großen Räumaktion im Haus meines Vaters Anfang März bin ich auch über ein kleines Büchlein (etwa A7) eines St. Gallener Verlags gestoßen, das 1962 rauskam und sich auf qualitativ hochwertigen Papieren den „Quellen östlicher Weisheit“ widmet. Ich dachte direkt, dass sich davon vielleicht Karten machen lassen und habe es an mich genommen.

When I was cleaning out a part of my Dad’s house this past March I came across a small book (about A7), published by a Swiss publishing house in 1962. It’s called „Sources of Eastern Wisdom“ and is made of high quality papers, possibly hand made. My first thought was that they could be a base for some cards and took it with me.

Meine erste Kreation ließ ein bisschen auf sich warten. Ich hatte die japanischen und chinesischen Papiere von Iko rausgesucht und viel hin- und hergeschoben. Das Ergebnis hat mir aber dann sehr gefallen:

It took a while before I really got going on my first creation. I had taken out the Japanese and Chinese papers that Iko had given me some years ago and started to move them back and forth. Once the card was finished, I really liked it:

He who smiles will always be more powerful than he who rages.

Aber dann dachte ich noch, irgendwie kommt mir das Zitat bekannt vor, wenn auch in anderer Form. Und fügte ein Einlegeblatt zu, das die Aussage quasi mit etwas weniger Zen rüberbringt:

But then I remembered that I had come across this quote before, if in a slightly different wording. So I added a sheet that sort of repeated the quote a little less „zen“:

…or a little less zen: Smile – you can’t kill them all.

Vielleicht geht es ja nur mir so, aber ich habe mich weggeschmissen vor Lachen. Es war wohl einfach einer dieser Abende. Bislang sind noch fünf weitere Karten aus dem kleinen Buch entstanden:

Maybe it’s just me, I can be weird that way. I got a kick out of this. I guess it was just one of those nights. So far, I’ve made five more cards from the little book:

Drei davon haben auch Einleger bekommen, aber keiner gefällt mir so gut, wie der erste…

Three also have inlay sheets but I have to say that I like none as much as that first one…

Ja, stimmt: das Thema Weihnachten hat sich hier nicht aufgedrängt 🙂 Habt eine gute Woche!

Versuch’s mit Kraft | Try kraft


Die Karte ist entstanden, bevor ich einen Blick auf die diversen kreativen Webseiten geworfen habe. Im nachhinein stelle ich fest: sowohl bei Merry Monday, als auch bei Crimbo Crackers wird um die Verwendung von Kraft-Papier gebeten. Hab ich gemacht. Nur sieht man nicht so doll viel davon, denn nur der Rohling ist aus Kraft… aber vielleicht reicht es ja trotzdem zur Teilnahme.

I made this card before I looked at several craft challenge blogs. So it was only after the fact that I realized both Merry Monday and Crimbo Crackers ask for the use of kraft this time around. I did. Use kraft, I mean. It may just not be that obvious because the cardstock I used is kraft, and it’s almost competely covered… maybe it’s still enough to participate?

Eins ist klar: das bleibt ein Einzelstück. In der zweiten Schicht Blätter sind an jedem Blatt fünf foam pads angebracht, für den 3D-Effekt. Ich bin vom Wahnsinn umjubelt. Deswegen gehe ich jetzt mit einem Buch raus in die Sonne und guck mal, was der Botanische Garten so zu bieten hat. Schönen Sonntag euch allen!

There are no multiples of this card and there won’t be any – ever. Every leaf in the second layer has five tiny foam pads attached to it – for added dimension. It was madness. And that’s why I’ll grab a book now and go out in the sunshine, checking out the Botanical Gardens. Have a nice Sunday everybody!

Ein Mann, ein Geburtstag / Male birthday


Ja, hin und wieder geht auch was anderes als Weihnachten… und das pünktlich zur „Anything goes!“ Challenge bei Seize The Birthday. Montag teilte mir ein Pop-up-Fenster mit, dass Mittwoch der Geburtstag eines Kollegen anstand und ich hatte eine spontane Idee für ein Geldgeschenk unserer Abteilung. Fokus dabei ein zum Oberhemd gefalteter Geldschein – inklusive Krawatte! Das Video dazu habe ich hier gefunden. Das äußere jedoch war eher spartanisch gehalten:

Yes, every now and then I make cards for occasions other than Christmas, too… and coincidentally right in time to participate over at Seize the Birthday’s „Anything goes!“ challenge. On Monday, a pop-up window informed me that a colleague was going to have a birthday on Wednesday and somehow I knew immediately what to make for him (as a gift from our unit). The focus was a bill folded into a shirt – with a tie even! I did it with this video. I kept the front of the card very simple, though:

Auf der linken Innenseite war Platz für unsere Wünsche, rechts dann mehr Girlande mit dem Origami-Hemd.

Inside, there was room for our greetings on the left while I picked up the bunting theme on the right side – and added the origami shirt.

Auch anderweitig ging die Woche kreativ gut zu Ende: eine meiner Karten, die ich bei den Jingle Belles in die „Peace on Earth(Day)-Challenge“ gegeben habe, hat es in die Auswahl der besten geschafft. Und deswegen werde ich mich jetzt bis tief in die Nacht weiter in die Bastelecke hocken 🙂 Schönes Wochenende!

Moreover, This week came to a very nice close on the creative front, with one of my entries into the Jingle Belles‘ „Peace on Earth(Day)-challenge“ being featured. And that’s why I’m highly motivated to move to my creative nook now to craft the night away:-) Have a great weekend!
