Was für eine Woche… wenn 2016 noch weitere ähnliche bereithält, werde ich wohl die Rente einreichen. Auch der Samstag fing vielversprechend an, indem ich meinen Wohnungsschlüssel im Schloss abgebrochen habe. Aber wenigstens bei offener Tür. Und mit dem fairsten Schlüsseldienst ever: die Situation war so, dass er am Telefon erklären konnte, was ich machen soll und ich konnte das Problem selbst lösen. Nachdem dann der Baum abgebaut war, konnte ich mich endlich den schönen Dingen des Lebens widmen.
What a week it’s been… if 2016 has more of the kind in store for me, I might apply for early retirement. Saturday started out promising as well when I broke off the key in the lock of my apartment door. But luckily, the door was open. And I found the fairest locksmith ever: the situation allowed for remote guidance via phone and I was able to solve the problem myself. And when I had taken down the tree and all I finally found the time to get down to the nicer things in life.
Ich bin euch noch das Ergebnis des Fundraisers schuldig: es kamen beachtliche 812 Euro zusammen!! Vielen Dank für das große Interesse an Plätzchen, Hot Sauce und Kränzen (letztere können für die kommende Saison vorbestellt werden 😉 ) Im Rahmen der Aktion gab es eine Sonderbestellung von „irgendwie anderen“ Plätzchenbehältern – von denen ich aus unerfindlichen Gründen kein Foto gemacht habe. Ich habe rumprobiert und nachdem der Prototyp passte, das ganze 17mal aufgezeichnet, ausgeschnitten, zusammengesetzt usw. Jetzt geht das anders: seit Weihnachten bin ich begeisterte Besitzerin eines Silhouette Cameo, eines Schneideplotters. Und nein, ich kann nicht erstmal einfach eine Blume aus der Bibliothek ausschneiden. Nein, ich muss mich gleich ans designen geben…
I still owe you the result of last year’s fundraiser for the hospice: I – YOU! – raised an amazing 812 Euros! Thank you all for your interest in cookies, Hot Sauce and wreaths (you can put in an order for the latter for the coming season! 😉 ). I was asked whether I could do „something different“ as cookie containers – for reasons unknown I never took a picture of the finished product. I tried this and that and when I had developed a perfect prototype copied it 17 times – drew, cut, assembled etc. From now on that will be done differently: Santa brought a Silhouette Cameo, a craft plotter. I’m excited! And no, I can’t just humbly cut a flower from the library as the first project. No, I have to design from the start…
Das hat ein bisschen gedauert – vielleicht sogar ungefähr so lange, wie die 17-malige Handarbeit… Aber dafür kann ich jetzt jederzeit Papier in den Plotter legen, einen Knopf drücken und los geht’s. Ich saß vollkommen fasziniert vor dem Teil und habe den Schneide- und Perforierungsprozess verfolgt. Da tun sich Möglichkeiten auf…
It took a while, of course – maybe even as long as drawing and cutting it 17 times by hand… but now I can just pop a piece of paper into the plotter anytime, press a button and off it goes. I sat in front of it, mesmerized, and watched it cut and perforate. Think of all the possibilties…

Of course the „window pane“ is still done manually…
…und ich habe auch noch nicht raus, wie ich die abgerundeten Ecken nur an einer Seite mache (wahrscheinlich muss ich zwei Formen zusammenschweißen…).
… and I have yet to find out how to cut round corners on only one side (most likely I need to weld two shapes to get there…).
