Two Weeks looking for… Fall Foliage

Schon beim Anflug auf den Logan Airport in Boston ging mir auf einmal auf: ich war seit 23 Jahren nicht mehr im Oktober hier! Es ist schon dunkel! Man kann Cape Cod ja kaum erkennen! Ich bin noch nie im Dunkeln hier gelandet! Da ist ja der Mond! Ihr versteht. Oder vielleicht auch nicht. Jedenfalls freute ich mich auch auf wunderschön bunte Herbstbelaubung, aber dafür war ich dann wohl doch zu früh dran.

It was already when the plane was approaching Logan Airport in Boston that I suddenly realized: it’s been 23 years since I was last here in October! It’s already dark! I can hardly make out Cape Cod! I’ve never landed here in October! That’s the moon over there! You get the picture. Or maybe not. Anyhow, I was also very much looking forward to seeing the fall foliage but as it turned out, I was about two weeks too early for that.

Aber Herbststimmung gab’s genug – bei teilweise sommerlichen Temperaturen. Hier gab’s im Oktober Abende, die lauer waren, als ungefähr 90% aller Abende des diesjährigen deutschen Sommers. Schon ein kleiner Spaziergang in der Nachbarschaft brachte einiges an wunderschönen Motiven zutage.

And yet there was plenty of fall atmosphere around – though with temperatures that felt more like summer. There were evenings here this October, that felt a lot more balmy than about 90% of all summer nights in Germany this year. And only a little stroll in the neighborhood yielded quite a few beautiful motifs.

Ein ganz kleines bisschen weiter war das Laub schon am Hudson River. Dorthin hatten wir im Rahmen des New Haven-Wochenendes einen Ausflug unternommen und sind ein bisschen gewandert, auf der Suche nach dem Ausblick auf der Webseite des Hudson Highlands State Park. Wir haben uns wohl nicht für den richtigen Trail entschieden – schön war es trotzdem.

There’s already a little more fall foliage along the Hudson River. We went there on a day trip as part of that New Haven weekend and did a little hiking, looking for the view that heads the website of Hudson Highlands State Park. Apparently, we did not choose the right trail – but it was beautiful nevertheless.
