Schon wieder ein Monat vorbei und ich habe weiter daran gedreht, weniger Plastik im Alltag zu verwenden. Bei mir findet ziemlich viel Milch und Joghurt Verwendung. Wie jedes Mal bislang ist auch hier die Aussage: ist halt etwas teurer. Die Milch in den Flaschen schmeckt mir aber dazu auch noch besser. Und außerhalb Deutschlands lacht sich wahrscheinlich sowieso jeder kaputt, wenn man deutsche Dumping-Preise zitiert…

Another month has come and gone and I have tried to find more ways to avoid plastic. I eat and drink quite a lot of yoghurt and milk. And as with all other replacements so far: it’s a little more expensive. But an added value was that the milk from the bottles tastes better. And people anywhere outside Germany probably laugh hysterically when they hear the German dumping prices… fresh milk can be had for as little as 0,65€ a litre.

Beim Joghurt kann man sich ob größerer Auswahl noch deutlich länger mit Marktforschung befassen. „Normal“ oder bio; Plastik, Plastik mit Pappbanderole oder Glas. Wenn die Pappbanderole ins Altpapier kann und der Plastikbecher darunter unbedruckt ist, lässt der sich angeblich besser recyceln. Das reicht beim 500g Behältnis von 0,45€ bis 1,99€ (plus Pfand). Ich war schon lange bei Glas, habe aber – ich geb’s zu – nie auf den Preis geachtet, bin auf die Platzierung im Regal reingefallen (Augenhöhe halt). Und stelle jetzt fest: ich hatte immer den teuersten gegriffen. Kaufverhalten angepasst.

Getting an overview of the „yoghurt market“ takes a little longer. „Normal“ or organic; plastic, plastic with a cardboard sleeve, or glass. You can recycle the cardboard sleeve with the waste-paper – and the plastic can underneath is pure white, apparently it can be recycled more efficiently. Prices range from 0.45€ to 1.99€ (plus deposit) per 500g container. I had been buying yoghurt in glasses for a while already but – I admit it – have never paid attention to the price, just grabbed what was on eye level. And had to realize: I always took the most expensive one. Purchase behavior adjusted.

Beim Gemüsehändler gibt es regional produzierten Apfelsaft in der Glasflasche und auch dm hat leckere Säfte im Angebot. Wer sich mal was richtig leckeres – und auch mal ausgefallenes – gönnen will, dem lege ich die Gourmetsäfte von Van Nahmen ans Herz. Weißer Pfirsich. Sternrenette. Konstantinopeler Apfelquitte. Die sind so intensiv, die kann man fast nur als Schorle genießen. Gibt’s in großen Supermärkten. Aber nun sehen wir mal, was der nächste Monat bringt…

The greengrocer around the corner has regionally produced apple juice in glass bottles and my favorite drugstore offers yummy juices, too. And if you want to go for something really delicious – and extraordinary – have a look at the Gourmet Juices from Van Nahmen. White Peach. Rennet. Constantinopel Apple Quint. The taste is so intense you can really only have it weakened with sparkling water. You can get it in large supermarkets (at least in Germany). But now let’s see what October has in store for us…

P.S.: Ich habe die Waschnüsse auch in einem kleineren Paket bei dm gefunden, da kann man das ganze mal für 3,95 Euro testen. Auf den ersten Blick sahen sie aber nicht ganz so… potent aus, also vielleicht höher dosieren.
