Wie schwer kann es sein, den perfekten Couchtisch zu finden? Ich war da offenbar sehr naiv – es ist ungefähr so schwer, wie sich für eine Deckenlampe im Esszimmer zu entscheiden. Dabei weiß ich ganz genau, was ich will… aber vielleicht ist das auch das Problem.

How difficult can it be to find the perfect coffee table? Apparently, I have been very naive – it is about as difficult as choosing a ceiling lamp for the dining room. And I even know exactly what I want… but maybe that’s the problem.

Mein Wohnzimmer ziert ein wunderschöner afghanischer Kelim, von dem so wenig wie möglich verdeckt werden sollte. Also: Glasplatte. Dazu ein möglichst minimalistischer Holzunterbau, hell. Das ist offenbar zuviel verlangt. Auf der Suche nach dem richtigen Objekt hat es mich aus purer Verzweiflung schon in gigantische Möbelhäuser verschlagen – die so furchtbar waren, dass ich noch nicht mal in der endlosen Kramabteilung was finden konnte und ohne einen Cent ausgegeben zu haben das Etablissement wieder verlassen habe. Das sagt alles.

A beautiful Afghan kelim adorns my living room and of course it should be covered as little as possible. Hence: a glass pane. And then a minimalistic wooden base. Apparently, that’s too much to ask. I’ve taken desperate measures and went to a positively huge furniture store which was so awful that I couldn’t even find a little something in their „anything you never wanted but suddenly find irresistable“ department so that I actually left without spending a single cent. What else is there to say?

Preis stimmt… Lieferzeit passt… Und dann ist dieses blöde Teil nur 35 cm hoch und das geht einfach nicht… 5 cm mehr… Deswegen meine Frage an die werte Leserschaft: hat irgendwer irgendwo etwas annähernd ähnliches gesehen? Die Redation dankt für jeden Hinweis der zur Lösung dieses Dilemmas führt.

The price is right… delivery time is perfect… and then the stupid thing is only 35cm high and that just doesn’t work… only 5cm more… So let me pose this question to the valued readership: has anyone anywhere seen anything remotely similar? The editorial staff is grateful for any hints that might lead to the resolution of this dilemma.
