Nun ist der Mai schon halb durch und dieser Blog suggeriert, ich hätte in 2021 nicht viel anderes gemacht als gewandert. Zum Teil stimmt das, denn lange war ich damit beschäftigt, 15 Staffeln Grey’s Anatomy zu gucken – und jetzt komm‘ mir keiner damit, dass es schon die 16. und 17. gibt! Die Pause ist gut! Aber davon abgesehen gab es auch anderes. Es hat zu sage und schreibe zwei handgemachten Osterkarten gereicht.

We’ve already reached half-time in May and this blog could make you believe that I hadn’t done much other than hiking in 2021. And to some extent, that’s right, as for a long time I was immersed in Grey’s Anatomy, binge-watching 15 seasons – and now don’t tell me there is a 16th and 17th – this break is good and necessary! But then there were some other things. I did make all of two Easter cards.

Meine Kreativität hat sich anders ausgelebt… Larry und ich haben Spaß am Häkeln gefunden, an diesem „Knuddelmuster“ im Besonderen und auch wenn ich da jetzt an der zweiten Kreation bin könnte dieses Jahr der Schritt zu gewagteren Modellen als Schals erfolgen. Es bleibt spannend.

I found another creative outlet: crocheting, which Larry and I have both enjoyed, this „bobble pattern“ in particular and even though I am already on my second piece I’ve grown confident that this year could see a move to something more challenging than a scarf. I can hardly contain my excitement.

Ziemlich früh im Jahr schon (als neben Rosen selbst Tulpen noch zugekauft werden mussten), habe ich mit kleinen Blumengestecken zum Wochenende angefangen… mittlerweile kommt alles aus dem Garten und wenn meine ganzen Saat- und Pflanzpläne aufgehen, steht fantastisches bevor.

Early in the year already (when I had to buy not only roses but even tulips), I started making little flower arrangements for the weekends… by now all supplies are homegrown and if all my seed and plant plans come to fruition, there will be fantastic creations.

Große Pläne gibt es für einen Teil des Hofs, der begrünt werden soll. Da gibt es nun zwei Hochbeete, drei Kübel mit Blaubeeren, den großen Ananas-Salbei, Kartoffelpflanzsäcke, Wicken und vieles mehr. Einen Wassertank habe ich auch – der leider für die ergiebigen Regenfälle der letzten Tage noch nicht angeschlossen war – da fehlte ein Teil. Aber das wird auch noch werden.

I have big plans concerning a greener driveway (which is not really used for anything motor-vehicle related). There are now two raised beds, three large tubs with blueberries, the large pineapple sage, potato plant bags, sweet peas and much more. I also got a large rainwater tank – but unfortunately couldn’t catch the heavy rains of the last days because a piece was missing to attach it to the gutter. A matter of time.

Das braune Garagentor verbirgt eine Werkstatt, die zu einer Art Wintergarten mit eingeschränktem Lichteinfall werden soll: ein Ort, an dem man auch bei Regen mal so habwegs draußen sitzen kann. In den letzten Tagen hat sich in meinem Kopf entwickelt, wie genau ich das machen will. Zwischen dem Gedanken und der Umsetzung steht eine Entrümpelung… das folgende Foto gibt da einen kleinen Einblick – es war ein coronabedingter „Draußen-Kaffee“ bei 12 Grad, der dann beim nächsten Mal hoffentlich etwas gemütlicher ausfallen kann.

Behind that brown garage door is a workshop which I plan to convert into a sort of winter garden with limited light incidence: a place where you can sort of be outdoors even when it’s raining or getting colder (pretty windy up here). Between the thought and the action is the clearing out… the following picture will give you an idea of what I’m up against – this was a two-person coffeeklatsch adhering to the outdoors rule in 12°C weather – hopefully in a much nicer atmosphere next time.

Mit dem ganzen Hin- und Hergepflanze – ich habe viel auch noch selbst angesät und mein Esszimmer glich eine Zeit lange einem Gewächshaus – muss wohl auch etwas Katzenminze vom Topf in die Wiese gewandert sein. Larry jedenfalls hält sich dort mit Vorliebe und zumeist tiefenentspannt auf.

With all this planting activity in every nook and cranny – I had grown a lot from seeds and my dining room looked like a green house for much of the past months – some of the catnip must have jumped from the pot to the former lawn. Or that’s what I think because Larry found a new favorite spot and is decidedly relaxed while there.

 

Trotz allem glaube ich, dass es Zeit wird, dass ich mal wieder unter Leute komme. Ich bin überfordert, wenn ich einen Tisch für mehr als zwei Personen decken soll. Ob mein neues Deo tatsächlich nur zweimal in der Woche aufgetragen werden muss, steht noch vor dem Härtetest. Seit einigen Wochen geht mir auch der Gedanke nicht mehr aus dem Kopf, dass ich einen LKW-Führerschein machen sollte. Die Frage ist nur: wozu?! Und wo kommt das her? Larry’s Ideen gehen da eher Richtung Trecker, wäre ja auch sinnvoller hier…

But despite all the activity, I think it’s time to cautiously start socializing again. Soonish. I’m overwhelmed when it comes to laying the table for more than two people. I still doubt my new deodorant really only needs to applied twice a week – that needs a reality check. For a few weeks now I’ve had this recurring thought that I should get a truck driving license. The question is: what for?! And where does this come from? Larry is apparently going for tractors which would make a lot more sense here anyway…

Ich arbeite derweil meinem Urlaub entgegen, versuche, nicht jeden Tag als Kampf zu sehen, und freue mich auf ganz viele Wanderungen dann im Juni. Also dann doch wieder viel Landschaft hier 😉 Habt einen schönen Restsonntag!

Meanwhile, I’m working my way towards my vacation, trying not see every day as more of a fight, and am very much looking forward to many hikes in June. So again there will be a lot of scenic landscapes on this blog 🙂 Enjoy what’s left of your Sunday!
