Der April war mal wieder ein Monat von der sehr hektischen Sorte – ich hoffe, bei euch ging es ruhiger zu. Ich habe kurz vor Ladenschluss noch einen Wettbewerbsbeitrag für die ABC Christmas Challenge, genauer gesagt für „H for Hats“ zu bieten, ein zweiter Versuch mit meinem neuen Tomte-Stempel von gummiapan:

Die Kaufpreis geht in voller Höhe in den Online-Basar zugunsten des Elisabeth-Hospiz in Lohmar, der auch dieses Jahr wieder im November stattfinden wird. Je nach Aufwand variieren die Preise, zumeist, wie auch hier, liegt er jedoch bei 3,90 Euro. Doch nun: gute Nacht!

Wie immer im Frühjahr lasse ich mich von den Temperaturen in meiner ausgekühlten Wohnung täuschen: heute war Kurze-Hosen-Wetter! Wenn die Temperatur irreführend war, so hätte ich den durchdringenden und nicht abnehmenden Geruch von Grillanzünder richtig einordnen können. Die Saison ist eröffnet – und alle haben sich nach der Sonne gestreckt:
The temperature in my cold apartment has fooled me just as it does every spring: today was a t-shirt und shorts day! And if the temperature was misleading, I could have correctly interpreted the penetrant and never-ceasing smell of charcoal lighter at least. The season has begun – and everybody was trying to get as much sun as possible:
Die scheinbar grinsende Schildkröte rechts gefällt mir wirklich gut… Aber andere waren dann doch nicht so sehr auf die Sonne konzentriert: die Poppelsdorfer Froschkonzerte haben begonnen!
I love how that turtle on the right seems to be smiling! But there were others who didn’t concentrate on the sun as much: the Poppelsdorf Frog Concert Season has officially started:
Die Rhododendren halten sich weiter zurück, aber es waren auch genug andere Blüten zu genießen. Endlich habe ich zudem mal das nicht mehr ganz so neue Café ausprobiert. Auf der Terrasse sitzt man wunderschön, die Bedienung war freundlich und schnell, aber die Kuchenauswahl war enttäuschend (und teilweise um 15:30 Uhr schon ausverkauft), der Latte Macchiato durchschnittlich und der Test mit dem Leitungswasser funktionierte erst nach Erinnerung. Dazu schmeckte der Kuchen zwar gut, war aber zu teuer. Hörte am Nebentisch eine ähnliche Einschätzung. Aber wahrscheinlich ist das egal, die Lage wird’s machen.
The rhodies are still reluctant but there were enough other blooms to enjoy. And finally I got to try the not-so-new-anymore café. Sitting on the terrace is just wonderful, the service was friendly and fast but the choice of cakes was disappointing (and one of four sold out by 3:30 p.m.already), the latte was average and asking for tap water took two attempts – but it wasn’t denied. The cake was yummy, but too expensive. The party at the next table thought about the same. But I guess that doesn’t matter, the location is the selling point.
Ein Weilchen ist es noch hin, bis es wieder Reiseberichte geben wird… bis dahin lasse ich mal die kreative Ader pulsieren. Nach unserem Besuch auf der Creativa vor drei Wochen habe ich einiges zu testen, u.a. diesen neuen Stempel von gummiapan. Die Fotos hätte ich lichttechnisch lieber morgen früh gemacht, aber da ist noch die March Technique Challenge bei 52CCT – die in weniger als zwei Stunden zuende geht. Teilnahmebedingung: Embossing in jeglicher Form. Die machen sich gut, die Candy Canes im Hintergrund, oder?
Bear with me a few more weeks until I can post on travels again… up until then I’ll let my creative streak come to the fore. At Creativa fair three weeks ago I got this new stamp from gummiapan (among quite a few other things, naturally). I would have preferred to take the pictures tomorrow morning, light-wise, but in less than two hours the March Technique Challenge over at 52CCT will end. It’s about embossing, any kind. I really like the candy canes in the background. Do you?
Mit dem Gesamtdesign der Karte bietet es sich zudem an, sie bei der laufenden Challenge bei Merry Monday: Red & White unterzubringen. Da war ich auch schon lange nicht mehr dabei.

So insgesamt hätte man kaum besser ins Wochenende starten können: praller Sonnenschein, Saison-Eröffnungs-Spaghetti-Eis… und unter den erwählten drei bei der Vintage Challenge der Jingle Belles 🙂 Da hoffen wir mal, dass der Rest des Wochenendes da mithalten kann!

Dieses Jahr hatte einen holprigen Start – das erste Quartal ist vergangen, ohne dass ich in nennenswertem Umfang kreativ gewesen wäre. Den Ostermontag hatte ich mir extra dafür freigeschossen. Es hat nicht nur funktioniert… es hat trotz widrigster Umstände funktioniert. Die liebste Challenge ist mir immer die der Jingle Belles und da sollte es auch losgehen. Da geht es noch bis morgen um den „Spirit of Christmas Past“ – mit eines der schwierigsten Themen für mich, wenn man „auf alt“ machen soll.
2018 had been off to a rocky start on the crafty side of things – the first quarter passed without any creative output to speak of. But I have managed to have Easter Monday all to myself, total bliss. So not only did it finally happen, it happened against all odds. My favorite challenge, I will admit it, is the Jingle Belles‘ so that’s where I went for inspiration. But then: oh my! They are celebrating the Spirit of Christmas Past up until tomorrow – and vintage always poses a particular challenge to me.

Das Wetter muss nicht immer grell sonnig sein, um wunderbar zu sein. Wobei dieses Osterwochenende aprilgerecht ja fast alles im Angebot hatte – bis auf Schnee. Im Grenzbereich zwischen Bud Spencer und dem Massenkonsum der charakteristischen ovalen Gebilde hieß es bei uns irgendwann nur noch „Vier Eier für ein Halleluja“… Ohne Eier hingegen kamen die kleinen Hasenschachteln aus, die ich mithilfe meiner Cameo für die Kollegen gemacht habe (erste echte Bastelaktion in 2018…):
The weather doesn’t have to be right out sunny to be gorgeous. Even though this Easter weekend, true to (April) style, gave it all it had – just snow was missing. We started out with forty colored eggs and somehow by dinner last night we were down to four… The tiny treat boxes I made with my Cameo for my colleagues did not come with eggs, though (first noteworthy crafting activity of 2018…):

Ostern – und erster April! Bin gespannt, ob ich heute hinter irgendwelche Aprilscherze kommen muss. Aber der erste des Monats ist auch dieses Mal wieder dem Thema Plastikvermeidung gewidmet. Doch mein Vorhaben stagniert. Ich glaube, es wird Zeit, dass Frühling wird. Wo ich jetzt so darüber nachdenke, fallen mir dann doch noch zwei Tests im vergangenen Monat ein: ich bin mit einer Tasche voller Vorratsdosen zum Tibeter gestapft und wollte drei Gerichte kaufen und nicht in Wegwerfcontainern mitnehmen. Hat problemlos geklappt – es gab sogar einen zwar erstaunten, aber auch schätzenden Blick vom Chefkoch. Das kann also wiederholt werden.
Easter – and April 1st! I wonder whether I have to detect any April Fool’s jokes today… But the 1st day of the month is also dedicated again to my adventure in reducing plastic in my life. It’s kind of stagnating, to be honest. I think it’s time spring finally came. But now that I think about it, I do remember two tests I did this past month: I took a bag of tins to the Tibetan road-side stall and bought three meals that I asked them not to put in their single-use containers but the ones that I brought. No problem at all – the chef was a little surprised at first but then appreciated it. So that will be repeated one of these days.
Und dann war da noch… bei genauerer Betrachtung eigentlich eine größere Nummer. Der Verzicht auf Wasser in Plastikflaschen im Büro. Ich bin ja eigentlich ein Verfechter von Leitungswasser und sprudele mir das zuhause selbst – aber das im Büro ist zu kalkhaltig und schmeckt nicht. Seit ein paar Wochen bin ich nun umgestiegen auf Tee, den ich abkühlen lasse. Noch halte ich das durch, der Ernstfall kommt dann bei steigenden Temperaturen, wenn das Getränk nicht schnell genug Raumtemperatur erreicht! Apropos Büro: Guckt mal, was mein Kollege Alex macht:
Then there was… come to think of it, quite a big change. No more bottled water at the office. I drink tap water wherever possible (e.g. at home) – but at the office it doesn’t taste good, it’s too calcareous. So a few weeks ago I started to drink tea that I let cool. It works but we’ll see whether I will keep it up once it gets warmer and it doesn’t reach room temperature fast enough! Talking about the office, look at what my colleague Alex does:

Unabhängig von der Plastikfrage allerdings möchte ich euch zum Abschluss noch ein Lachen schenken – ich kann mir das gar nicht oft genug ansehen. Ein finnischer Meteorologe am Rande des Wahnsinns.
