Heute fand (und findet noch) der erste Flohmarkt in den Bonner Rheinauen statt. Wie immer riesengroß, glücklicherweise auch sonnig – aber ach, was war es kalt. Aber ich will gar nicht jammern – die Verkäufer waren sicher schon ab 5 oder 6 Uhr da (wenn sie nicht bei ihren Ständen übernachtet haben) und froren wie die Schneider.

Today was the first flea market in the Rheinauen park of Bonn in 2013. Huge as usual, luckily sunny as well – but boy, it was cold. But I won’t complain – all the sellers had been there hours before I was, certainly as of 5 or 6 am (if they hadn’t slept near their stands) and they were frozen to the marrow.

Wie immer gab es nichts, was es nicht gab. Ich hatte gerade eine ein kleines Mädchen zu ihrer Mutter sagen hören, sie wolle ein Hochzeitskleid, worauf die Mutter antwortete, dass es sowas hier nicht gebe. Doch schon ein paar Stände weiter wurde sie eines besseren belehrt…

As usual, just about everything could be had. I had just heard a little girl tell her mother she wanted a wedding gown and the mother answer that they wouldn’t find any here. But it was only a few meters down that path that I came across this:

Es war das erste Mal, dass ich auch Rhabarber- und Pfingstrosensetzlinge im Angebot sah.

It was the first time I’d ever seen rhubarb and peony seedlings for sale.

Für mich hätte der Tag schon nach 40 Minuten oder so vorbei sein können. Ich kam an den Stand einer Frau aus Köln, die selbstgenähte Produkte zugunsten eines Kinderkrankenhauses verkaufte. Die Giraffenbeutel sah ich zuerst…

I was about to call it a day after 40 minutes already when I had come to the stand of a woman from Cologne who sold hand-sewn products in support of a children’s hospital. The first I saw were those giraffe bags…

… dann die niedlichen Rucksäcke und Kissen (und Kinderschürzen und Topflappen und und und).

… then these cute backpacks and pillows (and children’s aprons and pot holders and and and).

Ich habe das Gefühl, dass das niedliche MAUS-Kissen, das ich mit dem Gedanken, es altersgerecht zu verschenken gekauft hatte, vielleicht doch bei mir bleibt. Es ist zu niedlich.

I have a feeling that I will not part with the cute pillow with the famous WDR mouse in the end. I bought it thinking it was a perfect gift for a little friend… but it might be just too cute!

Also, jeden dritten Samstag im Monat bis Oktober… Mal sehen, wann ich es mal wieder schaffe!

Well then, every third Saturday of the month until October… I wonder when I get to go there again!
