… aber wenigstens hat man nach dem Schokoladen-Overkill schon das Gefühl, für ein Weilchen auf dieses Suchtmittel verzichten zu können. Obwohl das Tiramisú gestern schon gut war.

… but at least it feels like I won’t be eating chocolate again any time soon after having seriously overdosed over the holidays. But last night’s tiramisu was yummy.

Mit der Umsetzung guter Vorsätze kann man auch direkt nach Weihnachten beginnen. Neben der Schokolade ist einer meiner, mich endlich wieder zu mehr Ausstellung- und Kinobesuchen (heißt: mehr als 0) aufzuraffen. Spontan setzte ich dies am 28.12. um und besuchte die Ausstellung A Bigger Picture von David Hockney im Kölner Museum Ludwig. Es war sehr voll, aber atemberaubend.

You can start walking the talk right after Christmas – no need to wait with good intentions until the new year arrives. One of my good intentions is to finally go to exhibitions and movies more often again (read: more than 0). I started on the exhibition part spontaneously last Friday and went to see A Bigger Picture by David Hockney at Museum Ludwig in Cologne. It was crowded, but breathtaking.

… so eine Explosion von Farben! Zu Beginn der Ausstellung im Oktober hatte ich gelesen, dass es auch auf dem iPad erstellte Werke zu bewundern gebe – das aber schon lange wieder vergessen. Das oben ist ein Beispiel. Faszinierend war daran besonders, dass man auf unzähligen Bildschirmen die Entstehung der Gemälde – wie von Geisterhand und im Zeitraffer – Strich für Strich verfolgen konnte.

… such an explosion of colors! When the exhibition first opened back in October I had read that there were paintings made on an iPad as well – but had long forgotten about that bit. The one above is an example. The most fascinating part about those was that you could see many of them in the making on screens – how they were done stroke by stroke as if by invisible hand and in fast forward.

Dieser Raum mit 51 Zeichnungen des Frühlings (über mehrere Monate) hat mich an meine eigenen Besuche im Botanischen Garten denken lassen, wo man jeden Fitzel Farbe in Pixel bannt und quasi jede Blüte, die aufgeht, mit tosendem Applaus empfängt. Und ständig hingeht, damit man auch immer mehr glauben kann, dass der Frühling kommt. Aber im Moment ist er ja eh da.

This room with 51 drawings of spring (covering several months) made me think of my own visits at the Botanical Gardens – when I feel the urge to capture every tiny bit of color in pixels and welcome every tender blossom with standing ovations, sort of. And that I keep going there several times a week just to ensure that spring really is around the corner. Disappointingly, it’s currently smack in the middle of everything here.

Der Yosemite Nationalpark war auch ein Thema und dieses Bild oben hat mir am besten gefallen. Es besteht aus mehreren Tafeln mit Ausdrucken eines iPad-Gemäldes. Ist aber leider deutlich zu groß für meine Wohnung (geschätzte 4×6 Meter) 😉 Der Museumsbesuch machte tatsächlich Lust auf mehr, also mal sehen, was 2013 bringt. Frohes Neues!

Yosemite National Park was another recurrent theme and the painting above is the one I liked best. It’s an iPad drawing printed on several sheets of paper. Unfortunately, at an estimated 4×6 meters it’s by far too large for my apartment 😉 The visit at the museum made me want more so we’ll have to see how 2013 turns out. Happy New Year!
