Nach langer Abwesenheit aus meiner Bastelecke versuche ich nun wieder, in Fahrt zu kommen – die Weihnachtskartenproduktion hängt hinterher. Nichts besser also, als sich mal wieder unter den Challenges umzutun. Bei Winter Wonderland sind in dieser Woche Candy Canes gefragt.

After a prolonged absence from my creative nook I am now trying to gain momentum again – I’m way behind with my Christmas cards. Nothing better than a challenge, I thought, and found out that Winter Wonderland is all about Candy Canes this week.

Ja, eventuell sind mir da ein paar Candy Canes ausgerutscht… aber wenigstens kann mir keiner Subtilität vorhalten 😉

Yes, maybe I’ve overdone it a bit on the candy canes… but this way nobody can blame me for being subtle, I guess 😉

Ich glaube, ich habe gestöhnt, als ich das Thema der Challenge bei den UnstampaBelles gelesen habe: die Farben der Nationalflagge des Teilnehmers. Was mache ich mit schwarz?! Aber eben überkam es mich und auch, wenn sie irgendwie was japanisches hat, sind doch schwarz, rot und gold dabei.

I think I groaned when I read what this month’s challenge at UnstampaBelles was about: theme colors of your country’s flag. What should I do with black?! But I just did it and even though it sort of has a Japanese feel to it, it does have black, red and gold (which is often shown as yellow but it’s really gold).

Ja, ich weiß, dass ich bei dieser Challenge gar nicht weihnachtlich sein muss – aber ich komme aus dem Modus eben nur sehr schwer raus… wenn überhaupt! Schönes Wochenende!

I know full well that I don’t have to go Christmassy with that challenge – but I can hardly get out of that mode… if ever! Have a nice weekend!

Gestern war mein Energielevel zu niedrig, um überhaupt irgendwas zu machen. Heute habe ich die Schlafzimmerkommode ausgeräumt und Sperrmüll-fertig gemacht… allerdings fehlt mir nun ein Möbelstück, wo der ganze Kram unterkommen könnte. Aber das 37. Abfallen der Schubladenfront hat das Fass zum Überlaufen gebracht. Jedenfalls hieß es nach der Aktion: Pretty in Pink, denn darauf wird bei der laufenden Challenge von Winter Wonderland wert gelegt!

My energy level was too low yesterday to even remotely think of doing anything. So today I prepared my bedroom bureau for the bulky trash pick-up… consequently, I now need a piece of furniture to welcome all my stuff…. we’ll think about that later. But it was the 37th time that the front piece fell off and I’d just had it. Anyway, after this was accomplished, it was all about: Pretty in Pink as that is the current challenge at Winter Wonderland.

Das Schleifenband habe ich im Weihnachtsschlussverkauf erstanden und es war von vorneherein klar, dass es irgendwann einmal für eine Karte Verwendung finden würde. Aber es ist schon sehr glitterig – bzw. ich jetzt… Habt noch einen schönen Abend!

I bought the ribbon in the Christmas sales and it was clear I’d use it for a card one of those days. But it’s really very glittery – or rather, I AM now… Enjoy your evening!

… und es sieht so einfach aus, oder? Es ist die laufende Challenge der Jingle Belles – eine Karte zu entwerfen, die die auf der Skizze links dargestellten Elemente enthält. Aber allein schon mit Text auf Karten ist es ja nicht so einfach…

… and it looks so easy, doesn’t it? It’s the current challenge at the Jingle Belles – to create a card that features the elements of the sketch to the left. But then I often have a hard time with sentiments on cards…

Und so hat mich dann auch mein erster Versuch nicht zufrieden gestellt. Ich meine: NATÜRLICH ist eine Elchkarte immer wunderschön 😉 , aber erstens sieht das Resultat nicht zwingend wie eine Weihnachtskarte aus und zweitens passte kein Text dazu.

And so my first creation didn’t really do it. I mean: OF COURSE a moose card is always gorgeous 😉 , but first of all it doesn’t necessarily look like a Christmas card and then also I couldn’t fit in any text that would look good.

Aber, wenn ich ehrlich bin, gehe ich aus ganz anderen Gründen locker in die kommende Woche: ich habe nicht nur meine Steuererklärung fertig, ich habe außerdem die Küche dem Frühjahrsputz unterzogen. Genießt den Sonntagabend!

But to be honest: I feel accomplished due to far more trivial things. Not only have I done my taxes but also did I do spring cleaning in my kitchen so I’m ready for the coming week. Enjoy Sunday evening!

Habt ihr bemerkt, dass es noch weniger als 260 Tage bis Weihnachten sind? Ich liege mit der Kartenproduktion zurück… aber jetzt lege ich wieder zu. Und wieder so eine Challenge, die genau das ist: eine Herausforderung. Ähnlich wie bei Neutral Noel ist das laufende Thema der ABC Christmas Challenge „gold, weiß und ein Hauch grün“. Ich habe das abgewandelt in „weiß, grün und ein Hauch gold“ – aber es wird wohl passen. Und das beste: sie gefällt mir auch noch!

Have you noticed that there are less than 260 days to go until Christmas? I’m way behind in my card production… But I’m about to really get going again. And again it’s a challenge that does the term justice. It’s similar to the Neutral Noel challenge but the current ABC Christmas Challenge asks for „gold, white and a touch of green“. I made it „white, green and a touch of gold“ – but I guess it still qualifies. And even better: I like it!

Und wenn es irgendwen gibt, der mir einen Tipp geben könnte, wie ich die Karten besser fotografiere… her damit!

And if there’s somebody out there who could give me advice on how to take better pictures of the cards… come forward!

Kaum wieder zuhause, schon habe ich mich wieder den Weihnachtskarten gewidmet. Am Freitag vormittag dachte ich noch optimistisch nach dem Staubsaugen: „Ach, putzen tu‘ ich dann am Montag.“ Soviel dazu. Die Prioritäten müssen klar sein. Bei Winter Wonderland geht es in dieser Woche um Rotkehlchen.

I had hardly closed the door behind me before I sat down to make a few more Christmas cards. When I had finished vacuum cleaning on Friday morning I was still optimistic: „Alright – I’ll do the rest on Monday.“ So much for that. It’s a matter of priorities after all. The current challenge at Winter Wonderland is called Robin Redbreast.

Wer hätte gedacht, dass rot mit rosa und grellgrün funktioniert…

Who would have thought that red works with pink and a flashy green…

Nun auf zum TATORT! Habt einen guten Start in die verkürzte Arbeitswoche!

… war die Inspiration für das Thema der März-Challenge bei CCAYR. Bei den Karten sind zwei Sorten gemustertes grünes Papier zu verwenden. Grün ist es geworden – aber noch viel mehr. Diese Karte hat großes Potenzial, mein Liebling 2012 zu werden. Und auch, wenn man seit diesem Monat keine 5 Karten mehr für diese Challenge basteln muss, werden da mit Sicherheit noch einige folgen.

… was the inspiration for this month’s challenge at CCAYR: use two kinds of patterned green paper. And green it is – but so much more. This card has huge potential to be my favorite in 2012. And despite the fact that as of this month one card is enough to qualify (not five like previously) I’m very sure that more of this kind are to follow.

Und während ich so mit meinem Bildbearbeitungsprogramm rumgefummelt habe, ist auch das Produkt links rausgekommen… Die Nase gefällt mir sehr gut, auch wenn es kein Rentier ist!

And while I was fooling around with my image editing software the picture to the left came into being… I love the nose, even if it’s not a reindeer!
