… heißt es bei Sparkles Christmas Challenges in diesem Monat – und Leute: es sind nur noch 72 Tage bis Weihnachten. Der Schneemann auf dieser Karte ist ein Fertigprodukt – viele ähnliche habe ich letztes Jahr geschenkt bekommen und mit etwas Glück kommen dann die Tage noch weitere Kreationen an die Öffentlichkeit.

… is what it’s all about over at Sparkles Christmas Challenges this month – and can you believe it: the Christmas countdown is down to 72 days. Anyhow. The snowman on this card is readymade – I received quite a few of these readymade motives last year and with some luck you’ll see more of them in the near future.

Der Hintergrund ist aus ColorCore Cardstock, der schon seit mindestens drei Jahren bei mir rumliegt. Ganz unten im Stapel sozusagen, und somit perfekt, um diese Karte auch noch bei der laufenden Challenge von ABC Christmas Challenges unterzubringen: U – is for Under the Pile. Dieses Papier ist gefällt mir gut: die Schneeflocken habe ich geprägt und bin dann vorsichtig mit Schmirgelpapier drübergegangen. Dadurch kommt der blaue Kern raus, mit einem Effekt wie Kreide.

The background was made with ColorCore Cardstock that I have hoarded for at least three years. At the very bottom of the pile, so to speak. And therefore it’s perfect to link up this card over at ABC Christmas Challenges as well, for „U is for Under the Pile“. I really like how this turned out: I embossed the snowflakes and then carefully sanded it. That way you expose the blue core and the effect is a little like chalk.

… Tannenbaum! Heute war es schon so herbstlich, dass ich am nicht wirklich hellichten Tag das Licht anmachen musste, dazu viel Regen – da wird es einem schon weihnachtlicher ums Herz (so lange man sich die Wahlergebnisse aus MeckPomm vom Hals hält) und ich habe kurz entschlossen noch eine Karte für die aktuelle Challenge der Jingle Belles gemacht, wo es um einen Bezug zur (Weihnachts-)Musik geht.

… Tannenbaum! It was really autumnal here today – I even had to switch on the lights at noon – and there was lots of rain as well. But I got a possibly decisive step closer to feeling Christmassy (that was before I heard about the election results in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania) and decided to make a card for the current challenge over at the Jingle Belles, which is all about music.

Mit bordeauxrot, olivgrün und schwarz ist der Fokus meiner Meinung nach nicht wirklich auf traditionellen Weihnachtsfarben, so dass ich finde, dass sie auch für die Challenge bei Holly Jolly passt. Da wird allerdings explizit um kein rot und grün gebeten… es ist wahrscheinlich Geschmackssache. Ist okay, wenn der Link gelöscht wird.

The focus being bordeaux, olive and black I think it’s safe to say that these are not traditional Christmas colors so I thought I might enter it over at Holly Jolly as well where the use of non-traditional colors is crucial… even though red and green were explicitly banned. But Christmas red and green (to me) are a different story. I guess it’s a matter of taste and if it doesn’t qualify, that’s fine.

Nun gute Nacht… ich habe noch die letzten Kapitel eines spannenden Krimis vor mir!

Ist das der Wendepunkt? Die erste Karte seit Januar? Ich mag es noch nicht ganz glauben – die berühmte work-life-balance stimmt weiter überhaupt nicht, aber man will die Hoffnung ja nicht aufgeben. Auf die Jingle Belles ist wie immer Verlass, wenn man Inspiration sucht. Die wird dieser Tage über eine Sketch Challenge gegeben. Sonst dafür bekannt, eher zu nah an der Skizze zu bleiben, habe ich dieses Mal eher Sorge, dass ich mich zu weit entfernt habe. Aber: egal. Hauptsache, hier wurde endlich nochmal was gebastelt.

Is this the watershed? The first card since January? I’m not fully convinced – the famous work-life-balance continuous to be off kilter but true to myself I haven’t quite given up hope yet. Luckily, you can always depend on the Jingle Belles when you’re looking for inspiration. These days, they challenge us to use a sketch. Usually, I tend to stick too close to it but this time I fear I have moved too far away. But: who cares. As long as I got to craft again.

Schon so lange wollte ich mal meinen neuen Dymo ausprobieren. Und nochmal den „tea bag fold“ verwenden. Überhaupt mal langsam eine Weihnachtskarte basteln? In der Summe könnt ihr euch diese Saison wohl auf gekaufte einstellen…

I had wanted to try my new dymo for ages. And use the tea bag fold again. And more generally make a Christmas card again? But we have to face it: the end of July is near… you will have to get used to the idea that I’ll be sending out store bought Christmas cards this year…

Im März hatte ich nochmal in meine Bastelecke investiert und ein Regal ausgestauscht, vieles neu organisiert, manches auch verschenkt und zu guter Letzt noch daran gearbeitet, mit dem Kauf eines Nagellackständers mein Kundenprofil bei einem großen Online-Kaufhaus komplett ad absurdum zu führen:

Offenbar mag ich Glitter mehr, als ich gedacht habe… genießt den Restsonntag und vielleicht auf bald in diesem Theater!

So, jetzt bin ich ein ganz kleines bisschen angefixt mit dieser Chalkboard Technik… Folglich noch schnell ein weiterer Beitrag zum Wettbewerb bei Merry Monday.

Well, it looks like I’m hooked on this chalkboard technique… So let me quickly write a second entry for the current challenge over at Merry Monday.

Bei Merry Monday habt ihr noch 5 Stunden, um an der laufenden Challenge teilzunehmen: es muss eine Weihnachtskarte sein, bei der die sog. „chalkboard technique“ verwendet wird – also ein Effekt wie auf einer Kreidetafel erzielt wird. Mit der Hilfe von Beate von Splitcoaststampers habe ich herausgefunden, wie man da zur Sache geht. Hier also mein erstes Ergebnis:

Over at Merry Monday you have about 5 hours left to participate in the current challenge: your card must feature the chalkboard technique. I got help from Beate from Splicoaststampers and her video tutorial to find out how to go about this. And this is the result:

Damit ist eigentlich alles gesagt. Nach den sehr ausführlichen Reiseberichten aus Norwegen der letzten Tage kommt mir das nur etwas knapp vor… Ich stelle die Karte auch noch bei Holly Jolly ein – da heißt es „Emboss it!“ und da hier gleich zwei Embossing-Techniken Anwendung gefunden haben, passt das doch auch wunderbar. Und weil ich mich noch nicht ganz von Norwegen lösen kann, hier noch ein Blick auf ein Graffiti am Hafen in Oslo. Was das so gemeint oder war das ursprünglich ein „einfaches“ Zebra, das dann noch verschönert wurde? Was denkt ihr? Ich bin immer noch unentschlossen.

That’s basically all there is to say. But after the very detailed posts about traveling in Norway over the past days I feel this is somewhat insufficient… I will enter the card over at Holly Jolly, too, where it’s all about embossing. And this card features two kinds of embossing, so qualify it does! As I can’t really let go Norway yet, have a look at this graffiti I saw in Oslo harbor. Do you think this used to be just a „regular“ zebra and then somebody came and „improved“ it? I haven’t made up my mind yet – I only know I like it!

Bei Sparkles Christmas Challenges ist diesen Monat Vintage gefragt – und dann auch noch Tags, also Anhänger. Mache ich beides nicht bzw. selten bzw. ungern. Irgendwie kann ich die Tags nie brauchen. Denke ich. Wie auch immer: ich habe mich der Herausforderung gestellt und dabei gemerkt, dass Briefmarken für Tags eine Supergröße haben.

The challenge over at Sparkles Christmas Challenges this month is not only vintage but also tags. I hardly make/work with either one. Somehow vintage is not my cup of tea and then I never use tags. At least that’s what I think. Anyhow: I accepted the challenge and realized that stamps have the perfect size for tags.

Und einmal dran, habe ich dann noch drei weitere Tags gemacht – auch wenn ich, aus welchem Grund auch immer, nur von zweien schlecht beleuchtete Fotos gemacht habe. Vielleicht werde ich ja doch noch zum Tag-Freak.
