Letztes Jahr habe ich anlässlich meines Geburtstags die Spendenfunktion auf Facebook getestet, an dem sich viele beteiligt haben. Abgesehen davon, dass es dabei einige technisch bedingte Einschränkungen gab, habe ich in diesem Jahr ein Anliegen, das ich dort gar nicht unterbringen kann. Es geht weder um eine Hilfsorgansation noch um eine „persönliche“ Angelegenheit und damit schließt sich das Tool aus.

Last year I had a fundraiser for a charity placed on Facebook on the occasion of my birthday where quite a number of people participated. There were a few technical restrictions to that and this year, there is a need that can’t be addressed there at all, for it’s neither a charity nor a personal issue that I am seeking support for.

Mitte März war der Zirkus Meik in Barweiler zu Gast. Die Saison hatte gerade wieder begonnen und kam im Zuge der Corona-Krise zu einem jähen Ende: Vorstellungen durften zwar noch stattfinden, waren aber spärlichst besucht und dann wurde ihnen untersagt weiterzuziehen. Seit nun bald zwei Monaten sitzen sie also fest, ohne jede Möglichkeit, Geld zu verdienen und fallen auch durch das Netz der staatlichen Unterstützung. Es gab hier sehr viel Hilfsbereitschaft, aber nun steht fest: sie dürfen bis mindestens Ende August nicht weiter und das ist nochmal eine ganz neue Dimension.

A family circus, Zirkus Meik, had come to my village of Barweiler in mid-March. The season had just just started again after the winter break and came to a sudden halt when the COVID-19 crisis started: they did do their shows here but the audience was only a handful of people and before the weekend was over, they were informed that they had to stay put and not move on. So now they are soon reaching two months stuck here, in a very special lockdown situation, and with no way whatsoever to earn money or apply for government support. People here supported them immediately but the current perspective is that they need to stay until at least the end of August – which is a whole different dimension.

Es handelt sich um eine Familie mit fünf Kindern, die außerdem drei Ponys, zwei Esel, fünf Lamas, zwei Zebus und einen Haflinger dabei haben… neben Enten, Gänsen, Hühnern und drei Hunden. Da geht es zuvorderst um Nahrung, ob nun Futter oder Lebensmittel, und so kalt, wie es gerade wieder ist, vielleicht auch nochmal um Heizöl wie bereits im März. Ich würde mich freuen, wenn ihr dabei wärt. It’s a family with five children, who take care of three ponies, two donkeys, five lamas, two zebus and a Haflinger horse… plus some ducks, geese, chickens and three dogs. So we are mainly talking about food for both people and animals and as it’s cold again, possibly heating oil as was needed in March as well. I would be very happy if you participated in this.
