Was für ein toller Tag – hin und wieder ein bisschen viel Wind, aber was soll’s! Dann auch noch ein Feiertag und ich in Bonn… was für eine selten dagewesene Koinzidenz! Da gibt’s dann auch nicht lange zu fackeln; auf zum Botanischen Garten, die Premiere für dieses Jahr. Und siehe da, die Rhododendren waren noch nicht alle durch:

What a fantastic day – a little more than a breeze here and there but well! It was a public holiday, too, and I happened to be in Bonn… a very rare coincidence! I didn’t give it much thought and took off to the Botanical Gardens, the first time in 2016. And yay, the rhodies weren’t all gone already:

Den Eidechsen war entweder zuviel los oder es war doch noch zu kalt?? Eigentlich kaum vorstellbar. Ziemlich schnell hat es mich von den Pflanzen jedweder Fasson weggelenkt zur Baustelle des neuen Haupteingangs und des Cafés. Darauf warte ich schon so lange – das man seinen Besuch auf der Terrasse mit einem leckeren Stück Kuchen und einem Kaffee krönen kann. Momentan heißt es, im Juli sei es soweit.

The geckos were nowhere to be seen – too crowded or possibly still too cold? Can’t imagine… Pretty soon I was distracted from the plants and had a look at the construction site of the new main entrance which will also house a café. I’ve been waiting for this forever: to be able to have a nice stroll through the gardens and then sit down on the terrace and enjoy a piece of cake and a good latte. They currently expect to open in July.

Meine Infos stammen ja aus dem Rundbrief des Freundeskreises, dem ich außerdem entnehmen konnte, was ich sowieso schon lange dachte: der Botanische Garten ist ein Touristenmagnet. Was ich aber nicht fassen konnte (und im tiefsten Innern immer noch für einen Druckfehler halte) ist, dass ein australisches Reiseunternehmen in diesem Jahr 97 Führungen gebucht haben soll. 97!!! Soviele Australier kommen nach Bonn?! Aber richtig so… dass ich diesen Blauglockenbaum erst in diesem, meinem 21. Jahr in Bonn wahrnehme, ist doch auch nicht von dieser Welt:

My source for this and other news is the newsletter sent to the „Friends of the Botanical Gardens“ which also confirmed what I’ve been thinking for a long time: this place is a tourist hot spot. But what I still can’t fathom (and deep inside I still think it must have been a typo) is that an Australian travel agency booked 97 guided tours of the gardens for this season. 97!!! I wouldn’t even have thought that many Australians make it to Bonn?! Good for them… meanwhile, it’s hard to believe I only really noticed this wonderful empress tree for the first time this, my 21st! year in Bonn:

Das dazugehörige Schild rechnet vor: ein Blütenstand, von dem es 2014 offenbar 1837 gab, besteht aus ca. 25 Blüten, macht eine Gesamtsumme von 45.925 Blüten. Und schöne noch dazu… Aber auch andere machen was her:
