In Form bringen / Shape Up

Mich selbst in Form bringen ist auch ein Ziel für dieses Jahr, aber darum geht es heute nicht: die Jingle Belles fordern dazu auf, Weihnachtskarten in ungewöhnlichen Formen zu basteln. Und seit bestimmt bald drei Jahren habe ich diese Rohlinge bei mir rumliegen und hatte noch keinen zündenden Gedanken:

I myself also want to shape up this year but that is not the subject of this post: the Jingle Belles challenge us to make cards in any shape other than square or rectangular. And I must have had these cards lying around for at leat three years and so far had not come up with any ideas:

Es ging auch dieses Mal nicht gerade leicht von der Hand, aber nach vier oder fünf verschiedenen Ideen konnte ich mich mit mir einigen…

It wasn’t easy this time around either, but after trying maybe four or five different things, I finally agreed…

Ich befürchte, wenn man die Karte nun aus dem Umschlag nimmt, sieht sie nicht ganz so frisch aus – aber wenn man sie einmal aufgestellt hat, macht sie doch ein bisschen was her:

I’m afraid this card looks a bit beaten when you first take it out of the envelope – but once you set it up it doesn’t look half bad…

Zeigt her euer Neues / Bring In The New

Erstmal die erfreuliche Feststellung, dass es mal wieder zu einer Weihnachtskarte gereicht hat… und zweitens sieht es wohl so aus, als würde es das Jahr der Vögel. Die Jingle Belles rufen dazu auf, eine Karte zu machen, für die neue Materialien verwendet werden.

I am happy to say that I made another Christmas card… and it looks as if this was going to be the year of the birds. The Jingle Belles ask to Bring in the New – to make a card featuring materials never used before.

Bei mir ist es das Designpapier im Hintergrund (und die silberne Schleife). Das habe ich zu Weihnachten bekommen – eine Freundin hat es im Urlaub gefunden und gleich zugeschlagen. Der Rote Kardinal ist ein Fund aus dem Internet. Ich habe das Motiv ausgedruckt und aus einem zweiten Ausdruck Vogel und Ast ausgeschnitten und mit Pads darüber geklebt, so dass ein leichter 3D-Effekt entsteht.

The design paper is what’s new (along with that little silver bow). A friend gave me the paper for Christmas – she found it while vacationing in… can you guess… and didn’t think twice. I found the cardinal on the internet and printed it twice, cutting the second one out and used pads to fix it on top of the other print-out so there would be a tiny 3D effect.

2015 – Willkommen! / Welcome!

Die Jingle Belles haben es geschafft: ich habe wieder gebastelt! Und, wie sollte es anders sein, eine Weihnachtskarte. 2015 beginnt gut!

The Jingle Belles did it: I sat down to craft! And, true to style, I made a Christmas card. 2015 is off to a good start!

Bei der ersten Challenge 2015 geht es darum, Geschenkpapierreste zu nutzen oder zu recyceln. Ich habe von diesem Geschenkpapier jeden Fitzel, den ich nicht gebraucht habe, aufgehoben. Nachdem ich mich einmal entschieden hatte, damit überhaupt Geschenke zu verpacken und nicht gleich alles zu verbasteln!

This first challenge of 2015 is about wrapping paper. I have kept every little piece of this paper that wasn’t put to use wrapping-wise. That was once I decided it was going to be used for wrapping at all… and not added to the craft depot from the start!

Und es ist mein erstes Projekt mit Pailletten… da weiß man dann, dass 2014 einfach nur so an mir vorbei gegangen ist. Ich denke, da steht, wenn auch keine Massen-, so doch eine Mehrfachproduktion an 🙂

And it’s my first project featuring sequins… so that tells you how 2014 just came and went and crafting largely wasn’t part of it. I think I will make a few more of those 🙂

Rekordergebnis / Record result

Zuerst mal: es gibt mich noch. Aber in letzter Zeit nur selten in einem Zustand, den ich noch deutlich länger mitmachen will. Weiter keine Zeit für kreative Dinge, was mich langsam wirklich die Balance verlieren lässt. Ungut. Doch ich werde immer wieder überrascht mit „Happy Mail“ (die nicht immer mit der Post kam, aber ich fasse das mal so zusammen). Darunter war z.B. der Adventskalender mit weihnachtlichen Bastelideen (oben). Oder der Adventskalender, der sich u.a. mit der Erweiterung meines musikalischen Horizonts befasst (unten).

First of all: I’m still here! But recently I’ve been in a shape that somehow I’m not willing to tolerate much longer. No time for my creative nook which really starts to take a toll on me. Not good. But I am lucky to have attentive people around me, whether „real“ or in blogland and so have received a number of pieces of happy mail recently (not all of them mail, technically, but let’s subsume it under that term). For example the advent calendar above, showing a new Christmassy crafting idea every day. Or the one below which tries to widen my horizon in music, among other things.

Then there’s the traditional chocolate filled calendar, created with photos made by the generous friend herself (I assume):

Dann erreichte mich ein überaus niedlicher Elch aus Liverpool – er soll mir über den Verlust des vom Baum gestürzten Elchs hinweghelfen. Und guckt euch mal diese fantastische Karte an, die beilag!

Then I received this cute moose from Liverpool – to help me cope with the loss of the one that fell off the tree. It came with the exquisite handmade card you see right next to it.

Und dann war da noch die Kekstütenaktion. Leute, ihr seht mich komplett sprachlos. Ich habe die Liste zigmal hoch- und runtergerechnet, schlussendlich in Excel eingegeben – ich habe es nicht für möglich gehalten. Aber offensichtlich stimmt es: es sind sage und schreibe 1.055,50 Euro für das Elisabeth Hospiz in Lohmar zusammengekommen. Und dabei hatte ich ja nicht mal mehr die Gelegenheit, großartig die Werbetrommel zu rühren. Zugegeben: es gab teilweise großzügigste Aufrundungen und es sind noch 196 Euro aus anderen Quellen dabei (u.a. durch die Martinslaterne mit den Heiligen). Aber… WOW! Einige leere Tüten hätte ich noch abzugeben, wenn nun kurz vor den Feiertagen noch Bedarf besteht. Ich werde die Überweisung ans Hospiz bis auf ganz kurz vor Weihnachten hinauszögern 😉

And then there was the cookie bag fundraiser for the Elisabeth Hospice in Lohmar. Guys, you see me utterly speechless. I have added up the amounts on that list about a zillion times, finally used a spread sheet – because I just couldn’t believe I was doing the maths right: you raised the amazing amount of 1,055.50 Euros!! And I didn’t even have time for a lot of advertising here or elsewhere. I admit: there has been a lot of very generous rounding up going on and there were 196 Euros from other sources (e.g. the Saints lantern). But… WOW! There are a few empty bags left, should there be some last minute demand. I will wait with the transfer to the hospice until very shortly before Christmas 😉

Ein Versuch / A Try

Seit ein paar Jahren habe ich Kartenrohlinge in Tannenwald-Form. Es fällt mir dazu nichts ein. Heute habe ich mal einen Versuch gestartet, aber irgendwie klickt das weiter nicht.

I’ve had these cards shaped as a fir tree forest for years. But I can’t think of anything to do with them. Today I gave it a try but somehow things just don’t fall into place.

Wahrscheinlich sollte ich einen Elch oder zwei hinzufügen… kann ja nie schaden, oder? Das ist übrigens die Innenseite:

Bevor ich aber weiter darüber nachdenke, noch schnell eine Wasserstandsmeldung vom Fundraiser für das Elisabeth-Hospiz: wir stehen bei unglaublichen 559,20 Euro und 114 verkauften Tüten! Fernsicht und ein Gewinner / A Clear Day and a Winner

Samstag war ein wunderbarer Tag – mit erstaunlicher Fernsicht. Vom Hömmerich in Barweiler hat man Berge gesehen, die gefühlt noch nie da waren. Selbst die Nürburg habe ich so klar noch nie gesehen.

Saturday was a clear day with exceptional views. Standing on Hömmerich in Barweiler I saw mountains (okay, hills) that I felt I had never seen before. Even Nürburg was seen in more detail than ever before.

Aber trotzdem habe ich mich nochmal mit dem Laternenquiz beschäftigt, für das ich Donnerstag noch einen Tip veröffentlicht hatte (auch wenn es ja nicht um die RICHTIGE Antwort ging). Ja, der Bettler sieht aus wie Günther Netzer… und St. Martin hat täuschende Ähnlichkeit mit Gerhard Delling. 🙂 Qualifiziert waren sieben Kommentargeber. Und der Gewinner, den ich wieder mit random.org gefunden habe, ist:

Einfach / Simple

Es steht zur Abwechslung mal keine Challenge dahinter – es ist einfach nur so. Ich habe ein bisschen mit einer sehr einfachen Idee rumgespielt und das ist dabei herausgekommen.

For a change this is not about a challenge – no outside motivation. I was fooling around with a very simple idea and this is the outcome.

Und weil das so einfach und schnell ging, habe ich gleich ein paar davon gemacht…

And because it was so simple and quick, I went ahead and made a few more…

Noch zwei kurze Updates: im Rahmen des Weihnachtsfundraisers für das Elisabeth-Hospiz in Lohmar sind bereits unglaubliche 82 Kekstüten hauptsächlich an die Frau gekommen. Eine Kollegin brachte mich noch auf ganz neue Gedanken. Die fragte, ob die für Tee seien! Und was für eine Idee! Mit der leeren Tüte in den Teeladen und direkt einfüllen lassen… Wer sich noch beteiligen möchte, kann sich sehr gerne hier umsehen. Und dann läuft bis morgen ja noch das Freebie – und erschütternderweise hat da noch keiner richtig gelegen. Deswegen gebe ich einen Tipp. Denke Fußball (-übertragungen). Wer sich unter diesem Aspekt das ganze nochmal ansehen möchte, der klicke hier 🙂 Bis bald!

And two quick updates: this year’s fundraiser for the Elisabeth Hospice in Lohmar took off exceptionally well: an incredible 82 cookie bags are sold already. And a colleague had another thought: she wondered whether the bags were for tea! What a great idea! Take the empty bag to the tea store and have them fill it there with whatever tea you’d like… If you would like to participate, you can do that here. And as for the on-going blog candy: I seem to have a mind of my own, nobody has had the same associations about that beggar yet. That’s why I give you a hint: think soccer (broadcasts). Still, I guess it’s only answerable by Germans – but any comment is welcome here 🙂 Bye for now!

Deine Chance! / Your chance!

Ja, ich war beschäftigt. Es war wunderbar, abends nach Feierabend mein Hirn abzuschalten und zu basteln. Fernseher aus, spülen kann ich morgen noch – und dazu dann Radio hören. Ging ganz ohne Weihnachtsmusik, erstaunlich! Hier geht es wieder um meinen Fundraiser für das Elisabeth-Hospiz in Lohmar. Es ist nun das dritte Jahr und ich finde es Klasse, wie ihr jedes Jahr dabei seid. Das Produkt ist in diesem Jahr das gleiche wie im letzten Jahr: aufwändig aufgehübschte Plätzchenbeutel. Hier schon mal ein paar Detailansichten (die fertigen „Cover“ müssen noch auf die Tüten geklebt werden):

Yes, I’ve been busy. It was wonderful to switch off my brain after work and just craft away in the evenings. TV off, dishes can wait – just listening to the radio. And it wasn’t even Christmas music, amazing! Again, this is about my fundraiser for the Elisabeth Hospice in Lohmar. It’s the third year I’m doing it and I guess it’s becoming a tradition – and I love how you participate each year. The product is the same this year as last year: elaborately decorated cookie bags. Here are the first details (these finished „covers“ still need to be glued to the bags):

In diesem Jahr biete ich folgendes an:

Leere Tüten für 3,80€ das Stück (mit 10% Rabatt bei einer Abnahme von 10 oder mehr)
Mit Gebäck gefüllte Tüten für 7,00 € das Stück (Rabatt gilt auch hier). Das Gebäck ist das fantastischste Spritzgebäck, nach altem Familienrezept. Ich sage nur: es gab im letzten Jahr schon Bestellungen für dieses Jahr…

Sollte keine persönliche Übergabe möglich sein, kommen (reine) Portokosten dazu. Zum Versand empfehle ich allerdings die leere Variante… da besteht schon eine Bruchgefahr. Schmeckt dann zwar immer noch, kann aber mitleiderreged aussehen. Und hier noch ein paar Details…

Empty bags at 3.80 € apiece (10% discount on your order of 10 or more)
Cookie-filled bags at 7.00 € apiece (discount applies here, too). The cookies are the world’s best piped cookies, an old family recipe. Let me put it this way: there were orders last year already for this year.

If they can’t be handed over personally, shipping costs will be added. I recommend to order only empty bags when shipping is needed, though… the cookies can break. Doesn’t affect the taste but they look a little pathetic. And now for a few more details…

Eine Freundin hat Unterstützung beim Backen angeboten… ich hoffe, sie erinnert sich noch dran 😉 Bestellungen werden ab sofort über jedes Kommunikationsmedium (außer Handy, ha!) entgegengenommen. Gerne auch Kontaktaufnahme per Kommentar, ich melde mich dann. Sollte eine bestimmte Deko gewünscht sein, kriegt zuerst, wer zuerst bestellt. Manche sind bis zu 16-fach vorhanden, andere nur viermal. Also los, bald kommt das Weihnachtsgeld – warum nicht ein bisschen davon in einen guten Zweck anlegen? Bis bald!

Schneemann und Schleifen / Snowman and ribbons

Ich hatte meine Weihnachtskartenproduktion für dieses Jahr schon abgehakt… aber es hat mich überkommen – wahrscheinlich, weil ich gerade die ersten 25 „normalen“ Karten bestellt habe. Das hat mich wohl unbewusst herausgefordert. Jedenfalls ist dabei diese Schneemannkarte herausgekommen.

I had already given up on this year’s Christmas card production… but today it finally happened – probably because I had just ordered the first 25 „normal“ cards. I think that posed a challenge to my subconscious or something. Anyhow, this snowman card is the result.

Die Fotos könnten besser sein, aber das Tageslicht ist lange weg… dafür habe ich festgestellt, dass ich die Karte gleich bei drei verschiedenen Challenges einstellen kann. Bei Holly Jolly Christmas geht es diese Woche um Schleifen oder Spitze, bei Winter Wonderland sind zwei Schleifen(bänder) gefragt und bei Sparkles Christmas Challenges heißt es: Schneemänner!

Sorry for the bad quality of the pictures but daylight is long gone… but I noticed that this card qualifies for three challenges. Over at Holly Jolly Christmas it’s all about Ribbons or Lace this week, the DT at Winter Wonderland asks to use two ribbons and over at Sparkles Christmas Challenges there’s one word only: snowmen!

Blockade gelöst / Crafter’s Block Lifted

Die Jingle Belles haben es geschafft! Meine Weihnachtskartenblockade ist gebrochen – und das Wochenende hat ja eigentlich gerade erst angefangen!! Es geht bei dieser Challenge darum, mindestens drei Schichten zu schaffen. Jetzt habe ich es mir mit dem Motiv einfach gemacht (das hat ja selbst schon vier Schichten)… aber ich bin einfach nur froh, dass es langsam wieder anfängt zu fluppen.

The Jingle Belles‘ All Bundled Up challenge did it! My crafter’s block was lifted – and the weekend has only just started!! Anyway, this challenge is about making a card with at least three layers. Well, I took a very easy way with my image which in itself already has four layers… but I’m just relieved that I finally seem to be getting my mojo back.
