Bis Samstagabend war ich zu platt, um einen konkreten Plan zu machen für den Sonntag, der mit bestem Herbstwetter aufwarten sollte. Nicht zu anspruchsvoll, denn mein Rücken muckt rum dieser Tage. Nicht zu weit weg, dass nicht die Anfahrt am Ende länger dauert als die Wanderung. Möglichst mit viel Licht, also offene Landschaft oder Laubwald. Die Wahl fiel auf den Rundweg „Walderlebnis Kerschenbach“, 8 km mit 120m Höhenunterschied. ’n Tacken weit, aber es kam zu einer Kombi, doch dazu später mehr.

Right up until Saturday night I was too exhausted (the grouse finally knackered) to make an actual plan for Sunday which was supposed to treat us to gorgeous fall weather. Nothing too challenging as my back is acting up these days. Not too far away – we don’t want the car ride there to take longer than the actual hike. With as much light as possible, so open skies or deciduous forest. I found „Walderlebnis Kerschenbach“, 8 km with 120m of elevation. Maybe a tad far away but I was able to find another activity to combine it with – but more about that later.

Es stellte sich als exzellente Wahl heraus. Das Laub in den wunderbarsten Farben, der Himmel strahlend blau, die Wege abwechslungsreich – an Tieren habe ich allerdings quasi hinter jeder Ecke Kühe gesehen, die mich teilweise angeguckt haben, als hätte es gedonnert… bis auf zwei weitere Wanderer ist mir allerdings wieder kein Mensch begegnet, es war also vielleicht auch ein schockierender Anblick.

It turned out to be an excellent choice. The foliage breathtakingly beautiful, the skies of a deep, clear blue, the paths were varied – animals were lacking in variation, though, there were cows practically behind every corner I turned and they often looked at me as if struck by thunder… but then I only met two other souls on the whole trail so maybe I was a shocking sight.

Im Wald dieser moosig-modrige Herbstgeruch, wenn ihr wisst, was ich meine. Okay, zugegebenermaßen ist der natürlich stärker, wenn man auf dem Boden rumrobbt, um Pilze zu fotografieren…

The woods smelled like moss, this musty scent, if you know what I mean. Okay, I admit: it is of course more intense when you crawl on the ground trying to take pictures of mushrooms…

Die angegebenen 2:30 Stunden Wegzeit waren exakt ausreichend, inkl. einer Teepause und knapp 80 Fotostops… ich hätte das auch noch doppelt so lang ausdehnen können, aber dann kam mir doch der zweite Programmpunkt in den Weg – zu eng geplant das Ganze.

The trail time is listed as 2:30 hours which I made almost to the minute, including a tea break and about 80 photo stops… I could have easily extended this to last twice as long, just sitting in the sunshine, but the second item on my agenda got in my way – I didn’t factor in that I might actually not want to move on for a while.

Der zweite Programmpunkt, der der Anreise die letzte Rechtfertigung geben sollte, war mein erster Kinobesuch seit Ewigkeiten (coronabedingt): in der Eifel-Film-Bühne in Hillesheim, wo ich das letzte Mal wahrscheinlich vor 30 Jahren war. Es war einfach fantastisch – große Leinwand, Popcorn, Kaltgetränk, Vorfilm, teils grausige Lokalwerbung – und dann ein wunderbar unterhaltsamer Film. Ein gelungener Wiedereinstieg in cineastische Aktivitäten. Hoffentlich bald mehr.

That second item (helping to justify the longish journey) was my first visit at the movies in, like, forever (COVID-related): at Eifel-Film-Bühne in Hillesheim. I think I was last there about 30 years ago. It was fantastic – the big screen, popcorn, soda, a supporting film, amateurish commercials for local businesses – and then a wonderfully entertaining feature movie. A successful return to the cinema. Hopefully more to come!
