Eine der beliebtesten Aktivitäten im diesjährigen Schweden-Urlaub waren die kleinen und großen Flohmärkte, über die wir gefühlt täglich gestolpert sind. „Was hast du denn da so gekauft?“ wurde ich oft gefragt… und habe meistens geantwortet: „Alles mögliche!“ Unter anderem auch alte Weihnachtskarten – also solche, die mal jemand geschrieben hat. Wie diese von einer geschätzt 8-jährigen Eva an den wahrscheinlich ähnlich alten Torsten:

One of things we really enjoyed while vacationing in Sweden this summer were the smaller and larger flea markets that we seemed to come across on a daily basis. „What did you buy?“ people have asked me… and usually I answered „All kinds of things!“ Among others, I bought old Christmas cards – cards that had been written to someone. Like this one of a maybe 8-year old Eva to Torsten, probably of the same age:

Wenn ich den Stempel richtig entziffert habe, ist diese aus 1953. Das Format ist etwa C7, so dass sie sich als Mittelpunkt einer neuen Karte ganz gut eignet. Aber ich war hin- und hergerissen – wenn ich sie verbastele, ist sie ja irgendwie weg, diese 65 Jahre alte Weihnachtskarte. Oder wiedergeboren! Naja, es ist offensichtlich, die letzte Interpretation hat gewonnen. Und plötzlich ist es wieder soweit, dass ich keine Fotos mehr Tageslicht hinbekommen – aber hier gefällt mir das Licht tatsächlich: wirkt es nicht so knackig-kalt wie es idealerweise an Weihnachten wäre?

If I read the stamp right, this one is from 1953. The size is about C7, so it makes for a nice image on a larger card. But I was wondering whether I should use it for a new card – if I do, this 65-year old Christmas card is gone. Or born again! Well, obviously I went with the latter interpretation. And all of a sudden I’ve reached that time of year again when it gets too late too soon to make pictures in daylight – nevertheless, I really like the light here: doesn’t feel crispy cold just as Christmas would ideally be?
