Vor einigen Tagen bin ich auf theswedishnumber.com aufmerksam gemacht worden – und fand die Idee fantastisch. Der schwedische Tourismusverband hat eine Nummer eingerichtet (+46-771-793 336), unter der man mit einem wahllos ausgewählten Schweden (der sich für die Aktion registriert hat) verbunden wird. Genial, oder? Und total witzig. Gestern Abend bin ich dann endlich mal dazu gekommen, es auszuprobieren und bin bei Susanne in Stockholm gelandet, die eigentlich aus Hamburg kommt, aber vor 22 Jahren nach ihrem Au Pair-Jahr hängengeblieben ist! Für einige Länder gibt es sogar lokale Verbindungen. Probiert’s doch mal aus! Viel Spaß!
A few days ago I found theswedishnumber.com – and loved the idea. The Swedish tourist association has created a number (+46-771-793 336) that will connect you to a randomly selected Swede (who has signed up for it). Ingenious, don’t you think? And so much fun. Last night I finally got to try it and reached Susanne in Stockholm who is originally from Hamburg but stayed on in Sweden after her Au Pair stay 22 years ago! They have even set up local numbers for calls from some countries. Check it out! Have fun!

Do they only speak Swedish? I have heard about this but haven’t pursued it as I don’t speak Swedish.

Don’t worry! Virtually all Swedes speak Swedish, usually flawless.

Haha, I think you mean to say that most of them speak English. Reminds me of the time we had been cycling in England and took the ferry back to the Netherlands. When we were asking a lady directions to the nearest camp site, the lady asked where we came from, so obviously we answered „From England“. Whereupon she said we spoke Dutch remarkably well…
