Es dauert wieder alles ein bisschen dieser Tage… aber vielleicht ist es ein Wink des Schicksals für alle, die nun schon seit einigen Tagen in einer grauen Nebelsuppe (oder schlimmer, wenn ich an Freunde an der amerikanischen Ostküste denke) rumdümpeln. Denn dieser Beitrag ist der pure Frühling.

It’s taken me a few days… but maybe it’s just a great coincidence for all who have been surviving in this grayish mess called weather (or worse, come to think of my friends on the American east coast). Because this post is pure spring.

Letzten Sonntag kam es nämlich zu einer spontanen Wanderung im Siebengebirge. TROTZ zweier Biathlon-Entscheidungen, aus Oslo auch noch. Aber ich habe es nicht bereut. Auch nicht, dass die Tour fünf statt der angegebenen 2:40 Stunden dauerte. Ich war unterwegs mit der Wanderfibel Siebengebirge und habe mich auf Route Nummer 14 begeben, eine Rundtour ab dem Parkplatz am Einsiedlertal zur Löwenburg.

Last Sunday I went on a spontaneous hike in Siebengebirge near Bonn. DESPITE the fact that the day also had two biathlon races on offer, from Oslo. But I did not regret it. I also didn’t regret that the tour took five instead of 2:40 hours that were specified in the Siebengebirge hiking booklet that I had bought, choosing route no 14, a circular hike reaching Löwenburg (ruins of Lions‘ Castle) as the quite literal high point.

Das erste Fünftel der Tour ist ziemlich nah an der Straße und selbst der Verkehr am Sonntagmittag hat mich genervt. Aber das liegt wohl erstens an einer gewissen Basis-Genervtheit und zweitens daran, dass die Bäume noch vollkommen laubfrei waren… wenn die bald grün sind, wird das gedämpft sein.

The first maybe fifth of the hike was rather close to the road and even what little traffic there was on a Sunday got on my nerves. But I would assume that is due to both, a certain general stress level and also to the fact that the trees were all still bare. Once the leaves are back, that will be a lot quieter.

Nur gut 25 km von meiner Wohnung entfernt war ich, besonders zu Anfang, vollkommen alleine unterwegs. Ein Wegstück wirkte wie eine Mangrove der gemäßigten Breiten… Ein Umweg war aber zu finden. Hier und da fühlte ich mich beobachtet…

I was only about 25 km aways from my apartment and still all by myself for a lot of the hike, especially at the beginning. One section of the path looked like a mangrove in our temperate climate… A detour was easily made out. Sometimes I felt I was being watched…

Ich habe mit Sicherheit 40 Minuten „verloren“ an der Stelle, wo ich endlich weg von der Straße kommen sollte. Ich glaube immer noch, dass die Karte oder die Beschreibung da nicht stimmt, schließe aber auch Unfähigkeit meinerseits nicht aus. Allein deswegen will ich das eigentlich nochmal wandern. Aber, wäre ich nicht vom Wege abgekommen, wären mir auch diese Entdeckungen verwehrt geblieben. Ist das der Unterkiefer eines Fuchses?

I think I „lost“ at least 40 minutes when I was supposed to get further away from the road. I still believe that either the map or the description is faulty there – but I wouldn’t outrule incompetance on my part, either. That’s reason enough for me to walk that again some time soon. But, if I hadn’t strayed from the path I would have missed the following discoveries. Is that the lower jawbone of a fox?

Große Teile der Wanderung sind im Buchenforst – wenn der in nicht allzu langer Zeit in grün explodiert, ist es wahrscheinlich nicht mehr zum Aushalten vor „Schönheit der Natur“ und Entspannung.

Large parts of the hike were through beech grove – and when that, not too far away in the future, will explode in green, the beauty of it will be hard to bear. And wonderfully relaxing, too.

Es war so sonnig, dass ich mir sogar einen leichten Sonnenbrand eingefangen habe. Aber es war kein gleißender Sonnenschein, sondern so einer, der einen auch von innen warm werden lässt.

It was sunny – so sunny in fact, that I returned ever so slightly sunburned. It was not a glistening sunshine but an orange one, that makes you feel warm from the inside, too.

Von der Löwenburg hat man dann einen Ausblick auf den Rhein – der dann aber überraschend diesig daherkam.

From Lions‘ Castle you have a spectacular view of the Rhine – which on that day turned out to be unexpectedly hazy, though.

Auf dem Weg nach unten wurde es eher touristisch, aber da ich mich wieder für einen „Parallelweg“ entschieden habe, war auch das schnell erledigt… Und als zum guten Schluss noch zwei Züge Kraniche zu hören und zu sehen waren, da wusste ich: der Frühling kommt!

On the way down it became a lot more touristy but as I somehow decided on a „parallel hike“ again, I didn’t see too much of it after all… And when two groups of migrating cranes were heard and seen overhead I knew for sure: spring is in the air!
