Die Welthungerhilfe wird 50! 2012 ist das Jubiläumsjahr, das mit zahlreichen Aktionen gefeiert wird. Ich persönlich freue mich als Post-Junkie schon auf die Herausgabe der Sondermarke im April – aber heute startet eine wirklich besondere Aktion, die ich kurz vorstellen möchte: 1 Stunde gegen den Hunger.

Welthungerhilfe will be 50! 2012 – the anniversary year – is peppered with special events. Me being a snail mail junkie I particularly look forward to the special issue stamp that will be presented in April. But there’s a remarkable event starting today and I’d like to introduce you to it: 1 hour to fight hunger.

Die Idee ist einfach – einfach genial: eine Stunde Arbeit ist eine Stunde Arbeit… ob für 7,98€ oder 79,80€. Bislang sind 1741 Stunden gespendet worden. Der eigene Stundenlohn kann über einen Stundenlohnrechner bequem in Erfahrung gebracht werden. Kleine Realitätsschocks nicht ausgeschlossen…

The idea is simple – simply brilliant: one working hour is one working hour… no matter whether it’s at 7.98€ or 79.80€. So far 1,741 hours have been accumulated. You can easily calculate your own hourly wage by using this calculator, entering your gross monthly salary on the left and the weekly working hours on the right. Of course minor reality shocks can’t be ruled out…

Man kann die Sache aber auch weniger als Online-Banking im stillen Kämmerlein aufziehen und sich stattdessen eine Aktion überlegen – Kuchenverkauf im Büro, einen Videoabend gegen den Hunger (das ist ja wohl kein gewerblicher Zweck, oder?!), Sponsoring sportlicher Höchstleistungen… der Fantasie sind keine Grenzen gesetzt. Borussia Mönchengladbach hat eine Trainingsstunde der Profis gespendet.

You can support this in a less private and online banking way, too, and think of your own event to raise funds. Sell cake at the office, organize a movie night (that wouldn’t qualify as commercial use now, would it?), be sponsored at some sort of race… there are no limits. The team of Borussia Mönchengladbach has donated a hour of their top team’s practice session.

So, fangen wir nach der Spielerei mit dem Rechner dann doch auch mal mit einem Event an. Auf dem Foto oben sind bescheiden geschätzt 2 Stunden Arbeit zu sehen – in vier Karten. Diese saisonal gerade unglaublich gefragten Karten verkaufe ich zum Preis von 5 Euro pro Stück… Handarbeit und Unikate. Und Post bekommt jeder gern. Versand inklusive und natürlich kommt der Verkaufspreis in voller Höhe der Aktion 1 Stunde gegen den Hunger zugute. Zu erwerben per Kommentar, aus dem klar hervorgeht, welche Karte(n) erworben wird. Wer zuerst kommt, mahlt zuerst. Versand umgehend nach Spendeneingang.

Okay, let’s leave the wage calculator behind and move on to an event. On the picture above you can see about 2 hours of work (moderate estimate) – in four cards. Due to the season these cards are much in demand these days and I sell them for 5 Euros a piece… hand-made and one of a kind. And everybody likes to receive mail. Shipping included – and of course the selling price will be donated 100% to 1 hour to fight hunger. You can purchase them by leaving a comment that clearly states which card(s) you’d like to buy. First come, first serve. Shipment will be made immediately after receipt of donation.
